The table seating is more comfortable, especially for a longer dinner, but the experience feels slightly less engaging.

Some of the nigiri were truly outstanding. The coffee-cured bluefin and the chocolate-cured ocean trout were both memorable and creative without being gimmicky. The toro tuna belly was also excellent—rich, clean, and perfectly balanced.

Same-day reservations were possible on both visits, which is a big plus for an omakase of this caliber in San Francisco. Overall, Akiko’s offers high-quality sushi and a reliable experience, with the bar seating being the way to go if you want the best version of the omakase.“

“My favorite sushi spot in San Francisco! Been here several times and it never disappoints. The caliber of sushi they serve competes with higher end places for a more reasonable price point with a super comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Love the local tofu, omakase nigiri tasting, Kuma roll, and any carafe of sake they recommend. Ryo and his team really puts in their best effort in all the food and service for customers. Highly recommend if you are looking for delicious sushi!“

“New Year dinner before the festivities and my first time here—so glad we chose this spot. We sat at the bar and had a great time interacting with the chefs, and I’ll definitely do the same every time I come back.
The sushi was outstanding—flavorful and beautifully prepared. We had sashimi that was incredibly fresh and mouthwateringly good. The rolls were fantastic, and the sake was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. Customer service was stellar from start to finish.
This gem is one of the best sushi spots I’ve been to, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the city. They also have another location in Oakland under a different name, which I can’t wait to check out. I’ll absolutely be coming back every opportunity I get.“

“Don’t know how I just found about this gem in soma! Seems like not many people know about it. We were skeptical about the photoshopped photos and the name 😅 and the overwhelming 5 star reviews, but it was so legit. On a slightly pricier side compared to your average sushi restaurant but comparable to Akari and Kombu and we liked that they have so much more options.
The chirashi set was great, loved that they had oden as well. Area is sketch and don’t make our mistake of going to the sushi place next door!“

They have sushi rolls that are unlike anywhere else and no other place can beat theirs. They have small plates so you can get a variety and try everything. These are my must haves every time: Spicy white tuna sashimi, special roll (shrimp tempura), asparagus maki, tataki nigiri, crab salad nigiri, spicy tuna maki. The most impressive thing is that there isn’t imitation crab in any of their rolls.“
