We’ve been ordering from Hawking Bird for the last year - it’s our go-to spot for delicious fried chicken and flavorful garlic noodles. Our standard order: the Tanya Special. This ingenious dish focused on my favorite Hawking Bird offerings with none of the fluff. Imagine my disappointment when I learned this special was removed from the menu! Yes, you can alter the fried chicken bowl (sub noodles, remove the cucumber/cilantro/mint) but Tanya was generous, providing a larger portion size that cannot be recreated. Times are tough, and Miss Tanya provided some relief.

“Very friendly owner. Offered 5% discount on cash payments. We ordered 3 dishes. Kaokao chicken, char siu over rice, and beef brisket noodle soup. The star of the meal was the char siu over rice. We’ll reorder that for sure. The beef brisket’s soup was soy sauce forward, my husband enjoyed the noodle but it was a tad too soft for me. The kaokao chicken is very well cooked, moist chicken, but it was a confused dish imo, so it is not a dish we would reorder. Overall good tasting food, we’d come back for the char siu. The restaurant was very smokey, and it stuck to my body and clothes all day after. So I would not come here before going anywhere important, so you’ll smell of bbq.“

Hubby ordered the Lau Pork Bone Marrow and I had the Lau Oxtail. I ordered the Oxtail without the tripe, just more oxtail! The hot pot came out boiling with oxtail and beef balls. All I had to do was cook the egg noodles, taro, tofu, cabbage, veggies into the soup as there was plenty of delicious oxtail and meat balls in the delicious broth! Great for a bone chilling night! Next time I'd love to try the shaken beef!“

“My friend and I came here and ate at the counter downstairs. I really enjoyed the Filipino fusion plate we got. It was delicious and tasted like I was at my auntie’s house, but with an elevated twist.

We then took our drinks and went upstairs. We played games that were available and then listened to folks sing karaoke. We works up the nerve to sing ourselves.

It looked like there was an extra room for private parties.

Each variation of their fried chicken sandwiches are great with their unique flavors, from simple buttermilk to their sweet caramel fish sauce and their savory karrage is ome you can't pass. I have only had their sandwiches and fries, but I will definitely try their rice and noodles plates in the future.

For example, the chef or owner is from northern Thailand so the menu features a top Northern Thai dish - Kao Soi noodle soup (beef or chicken), or the all time fav 'street food' grilled pork skewers (moo ping) served with sticky rice (ck out the menu on their website). I had the Pad Kemao Chicken (menu says beef but they are happy to make dishes with what you like & even have Beyond Meat dishes on the menu - cool to see stir fried basil with Beyond Meat (Krapao Beyond Neur)). The taste of my wok fried pad kemao was delicious, same or better than any I've had on prior trips to Bangkok. Glad to have discovered a solid Thai restaurant that doesn't have watered down flavors. “First time dining in at this place that replaces a previous Chinese Vietnamese restaurant that we used to frequent.

It’s almost like a ghost kitchen in the sense that they have Japanese food (Sachi sushi) and dim sum (Yue Club) operating under a joint name of Saga Kitchen.

The sashimi was alright, though they gave us a bonus of a tuna belly which was delicious.

Sabro plate - ground beef and scrambled egg was not what we were looking for. The ground beef lacked any taste as it felt like straight up ground beef. So not something we would order again. Got it with Ebi tempura but it tasted like those frozen shrimp tempura - know it since I have taste palate that has allowed me to differentiate them, and food sensitivity to also differentiate fresh water from salt water shrimp - theirs is certainly fresh water.

Char shu ramen was delicious. Noodles had a slight chewy texture and the soup was tasty. The charshu, and poached eggs were right on and delicious.

Tonkatsu was ok. A little on the drier side compared to our favorite Tonkatsu places.

The cool robot food runner was fun and entertaining for the kids.

The fabric seats were discomforting as there’s just so much stains on it that it felt nasty seating on it - we changed immediately when we got home.“

But what impressed me even more than the food tonight was the thoughtfulness of the gentleman working. They closed at 11:30 pm (bless them for being the only vegan, organic food in the area open that late) and was cutting it close to get there before closing time. When I arrived 1 or 2 minutes after 11:30, I was worried that I had missed my opportunity and screwed up, but no - a thoughtful young man was literally standing in front of the restaurant with my order, waiting for me. He definitely didn’t have to do that - service is way above and beyond - 20/10! That wonderful young man saved me after I hadn’t eaten all day and couldn’t find anything vegan open late, I’m so grateful. <3

Bar Bay Grill in Union City is such a hidden gem! I come here at least 2 times a week for 10 years. It has that perfect balance of a cozy neighborhood spot with a modern, clean feel. I love coming here on Fridays because it's usually packed.
The curry chicken is a must! It's actually addicting.
Grilled garlic butter oysters are flavor- packed.
Stir-fried vermicelli, delicious and huge portion.
The freshest oysters I've ever had . They have $1 oysters on select days.
Garlic fries are garlicky and flavorful.
Chicken Karage, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Their homemade aioli is made for the heavens.
The chicken skin is ok. It is a bit too crispy for me.
Service was also on point. The servers are always attentive, friendly, and check- in just enough without hovering. I remember one of our servers was named Phoebe. She was super- sweet.
Whether you're meeting friends for drinks or grabbing a casual bite, even for a date, this place is definitely worth a VISIt.
My only complaint is they don't open earlier for lunch anymore.
I still highly recommend this place!
