Prices were reasonable for the Bay area. It seemed like the staff also knew quite a bit of the the people who came in, perhaps as regulars“

“I regularly eat at or order takeaway from this place for dinner. It definitely feels like a hidden gem and deserves more than its current rating. I usually get the 3-item bento with a variety of choices. The food is always delicious, plentiful, and relatively inexpensive for Japanese food in this area. The guy usually manning the place is very kind; one time when I was late in picking up my online order, he had my meal remade so I could eat it fresh. That's top notch service right there.“

“The biggest difference compared to izakayas in Japan? Last call is at 8:30 PM -- way too early! Most izakayas in Japan stay open until midnight or later, so this felt a bit rushed.

That said, overall it was a solid experience, and the bill was lower than I expected for the amount and quality of food. I'll definitely be back -- just a bit earlier next time!“

“Overall, good and healthy food. It is a chain and has a bit of a chain feel, which is a turn-off. But they have plenty of options, including items with raw fish such as sashimi and poke. Service is fast and portion size is fair. Always consistent.“

“Cozy little place right in a shopping center that my family and I visit often, but this was our first time trying it. I liked that they offered a children's bento box, maybe my son will get that next time. My husband and I enjoyed our sushi.“

“It was a delight and joy to have chef Steve to prepare our meal. My wife and I ate everything that was prepared for us and the food was absolutely amazing. Great flavors and fresh ingredients. The scallop was to die for. Uni was heavenly, that it melts in your mouth. Uni is not something my wife like or enjoy but she loved it the way chef Steve pair with other ingredients. Once again thanks chef Steve for the fabulous dining experiences.“

“The overall experience was good, the food was tasty and the flow for Omakase was decent. We added the Uni which total per person was $200. I would love it if they add a few more nigiri to the Omakase menu alone is $150 per person. Is it worth it? Maybe for special occasions.“

“This is the best sushi restaurant in Palo Alto! We have been to a few of them on California Avenue, and the quality of the food and its affordability at Kanji is certainly the best among them all. We ordered the 15 pieces sashimi platter and the cut of the fish was so thick and satisfying. The sweet shrimps were also very worth it, it was so fresh and they even fry the heads for you. Will come back next time to try their breakfast!“

“Shaemir was our sever and she did a FANTASTIC job. I had the caterpillar roll and my partner had the lion king roll. Both were great choices! Personally, I recommend the lion king roll as well as the edamame appetizer. The wait time was super quick (as long as you don’t mind eating outside - they do have heaters) and the atmosphere was also great! 10/10 would recommend.“

“The sushi is so fresh it melts in your mouth. It’s so good. It’s a quaint almost hole in the wall type place but it’s clean and the people are friendly and attentive. It’s a definite must if you like sushi. Prices are reasonable and a tiny bit high on some dishes but it’s worth it. I will be going back again and I’m sure lots of times 😋“

“Hamachi shots were insane. The tofu was some of the best I’ve ever had, super soft and fried just a bit for the perfect thin, crispy texture. The sauce for the tofu was also so yum!!! Crab was pretty good, though both the crab and tofu got soggy quickly due to the sauce. The o toro nigiri was honestly the best thing from this dinner. SO. TENDER. Salmon toro and Ebodai (butter fish) were also tender, but the o toro was unmatched. Honestly could’ve passed on the yellowtail maki, it was very rice-y but still good. Yuzu cheesecake was a great way to end this magical meal. We are moved.“

“The food tastes great! There are a lot of options, so even if you don't like sushi there's plenty of options, like miso and udon. The staff are always patient and attentive. There are many affordable roll options, and the menu is decently priced for the area as well. Great place to go with a partner or a group of friends.“

“This sushi spot is down the street from my house and it's quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Granted I usually come in for lunch and order a bento box. I love the spicy chicken teriyaki, veggie tempura and California rolls. Their Chile. Matsu was good but I prefer the teriyaki. Their miso soup is tasty.

Restaurant is typical sushi restaurant size. They may accommodate larger parties with notice. The art on the wall is movies, action figures, and things of that nature

I haven't tried too much outside of that so I will have to order more when I go next time. I want to order specialty rolls. Will update the review after the fact.“

“Fantastic atmosphere, I was so surprised as I did not expect such a cool experience just from looking at the place from the outside. Outside gives nice and elegant too, but the inside decor is stellar.

Great food, prices!

Salmon Sashimi was so fresh and nicely cut, very generous sushi special - eel was great -- , gyoza fried perfectly, niku udon delicious.

“Growing up in Saratoga, there weren’t many casual asian dining places nearby and Sushi Heaven has always been a staple restaurant for my family for weekend night out dinners.
Sushi Heaven is not traditional Japanese, and has a variety of rolls that are fun to choose from and also has great bento boxes.

They also reasonably price Toro and if you’re lucky, you get decent cuts.

They take reservations and are busy during dinner times so call ahead or there is a waiting list.

Tight parking lot at the In N Out next door can cause chaos if their drivethru line gets long. Friendly staff. Clean. Happy with everything. Will be back.“

I was walking and exploring DT Los Altos on an early Tuesday evening and stumbled on this somewhat hidden place (obscured by vegetation). I am more of a Bento Box and Entree over sushi guy and they had a strong menu of these selections. Parking in the surrounding city lots was ample but gets tight during high lunch and dinner times.

It's a long and narrow clean contemporary booth and sushi bar setup. I was seated promptly and ordered the Calamari Tempura Dinner. The okay salad and above average Miso soup were brought promptly. The squid consisted of long tubes with a crunchy panko breading, no tentacles. This was very tender, indicating the cook knows not to overcook it and turn it into rubber. The accompanying tartar sauce was okay but I would prefer a spicy cocktail sauce. If you like long squid tubes, this place is for you, it's kind of unique.

Service was good, obvious attention to detail and worth a repeat for other entrees.“

“One of our regular sushi spot in south bay. I’ve been coming here for 20 years and it never disappoints. The staff is extremely friendly and always remembers our favorites! I can’t wait for firefly squid season!

They serve fresh fish and always have a variety of options. This is not a typical over the top roll house if that is what you’re looking for. Come here for their nigiri and chirashi bowls they have always been solid!“

“I think it's good to be able to eat a lunch box for this price considering the location.
They also serve brown rice tea for free. I had the lunch bento box with a choice of 2 sides, $17.50. You can choose sushi rolls or nigiri sushi on the side, but there's plenty of white rice, so I personally recommend choosing a side dish. Personally, I'm concerned about the quality of the white rice. There's nothing wrong with vinegared rice, but that white rice is a no-no in Japanese food. The female staff member was very kind and managed the whole thing by herself. I think there was one craftsman who seemed to be Japanese.“

“Went here last night with our family for a birthday. Reservation for 7 was ready when we arrived, and seated quickly. Nice intimate atmosphere. Wonderful, attentive service. We felt well looked after all night. The food was beautiful and delicious. In particular, the 14 year old said that the fried soft shell crab appetizer was the "best bite of my life." Our host made suggestions, and we let her surprise us with a few extras, all of which were fantastic. 10/10 on all counts.

We used to go to a little family place in New Haven, called "Jerry-san's" which our whole family loved and was our default for birthdays, New Year's, etc... As we were leaving one of the teenagers said "That's our new Jerry-San's," which is high praise, indeed.

“This is my absolute favorite spot to get food in downtown Mountain View since it opened! The staff is unbelievably friendly and the service is incredible! Swan who is the manager has taken the time to know my name, has great recommendations from the food and drink menus. Everything about this restaurant is something to write home about. “Our family has been to Sumo many times because it's a family favorite. Our kids love the kids meals (rice, miso soup, and salmon or chicken teriyaki) and the sushi train, where we usually pick a few rolls and mochi for dessert. We love the variety of the menu and freshness of the food most of the time. Depending on the day, the texture of the rice can be improved and sometimes the offerings on the sushi train are limited, but the excellent service more than makes up for it. The restaurant is full of regulars that the staff remembers. A few favorites from the menu include the tempura ramen, all of the rolls, the agedashi tofu and the mochi ice cream. Highly recommended as a family friendly establishment that serves above average food, a quiet and fun ambiance, and great service.“
