“What a gem St Augustine has in its’ midst! We recently visited the fine establishment after reading previous reviews and was overwhelmed by the kindness and expertise of the owner! We were novices and had never prepared blue crab before. Instead of being annoyed at our lack of knowledge, he explained at great length and in easy to understand detail, how to prepare his delicious crab in several different ways. We served up a delightful, delicious meal that evening! The seafood was exceptional! He and his small business is a real asset to the community! You won’t be disappointed!!!!“

“I love beach vacations but I’m allergic to shellfish. Usually eating in a touristy, beach town is difficult but I swear Kyle knew every possible point of cross contamination on this menu. I had a fantastic Tuna Poke Bowl, my husband loved the taco salad, and my kids loved their spicy tuna roll and wave burger. Thank you to Kyle. Thank you to the restaurant for training their staff on allergens. We will probably go again because the food was fantastic and I feel safe there.“

We came for the vibe and stayed for the exceptional menu (BEST raw bar in st Augustine with selections from Maine: 3 dozen oysters didnt feel like enough but at a certain point we had to switch gears and get the equally amazing crab Rangoon special and the saucy shrimp with Cuban toast—wow, delicious) ; the exceptional service (friendly, funny, cool bartenders who recommended some other spots to check out) ; and the exceptionally yummy drinks. “We had no prior knowledge of Blackfly. We chose it because it was close to our rental.  We smiled as soon as we walked in the side door leading to the bar area and everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. The further we entered the very well decorated restaurant the more we knew we had made a good choice.  To us, the best reason to visit St. Augustine is dining at the Blackfly!  We went all out and had drinks,  appetizers, their version of Coquille St. Jacques and their Chilli lime shrimp. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection with exceptional sauces. Main course was a Chef's Special which was baked shrimps, scallops over a bed of thai noodles and a sauce to die for.  I had the bone in Pork chop cooked medium rare and it was delicious.  Blackfly has a vast selection of wines in their wine cellar and we enjoyed a nice Honig sauvignon blanc.   Kudos to Matt, our server, who throughout the evening gave us the right amount of attention and space to relax for our entire dining experience.  The food was so good and well prepared that I was compelled to go to the kitchen to thank the staff and gave a large tip for the kitchen staff . Our evening at Blackfly was the highlight of our trip.  Thank you Vaughn and staff, you have an outstanding establishment.“

“I said yes that I would recommend, however if you have young children I want you to make an informed decision. They used to be kid friendly, but I was told my children could not be “running” around. I have a 2 yr old who I stayed right next to the entire time. I apologized to people if she got in their way. Many people smiled and enjoyed the smiles of a child. She was not running around with my 6 year old like a wild child. This has been a great place to sit with our family for years. We have even met friends with young kids who all played together. The staff would engage with the kids and make it such a great experience. We may have to choose a different place for the next few years 😞“

“We were visiting Vilano for the weekend and wanted to eat somewhere local and decided to try this place out. Unfortunately, it had rained quite a bit before we arrived so outdoor seating was not available and that made the inside a little more crowded and noisy. Our wait was not long compared to other places we have visited. I had the fried shrimp basket and my husband had the ribeye steak. My shrimp were good although they seasoning tasted a little like blackened seasoning, which I am not a fan of. The ribeye my husband ordered was cooked to perfection and was a huge steak for the price. I had a Shipwreck drink and it was very good. Good view of the pier and the docks. Inside noisy was a little much but I understand with everyone getting out of the rain this will happen.“

“We ate at the Purple Olive for the first time this past Saturday night. It will certainly not be our last time. What an incredible dining experience. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is so delicious, and the service was excellent. Our server Jennifer was on point. Our water glasses were never empty, she gave us great tips about the menu, and struck the perfect balance between being responsive and giving us space. I had the macadamia crusted salmon, and I cannot honestly say it was the best salmon I’ve ever had. The flavor was delicious and it was cooked perfectly!“

“My wife and I came here for our 31st anniversary. A highly rated restaurant. My meal, steak bowl, was very tasty. The steak was tuff. Over cooked I think. My wife had a fish meal. I forget which. She was very disappointed in the taste and quality of her meal. I have NEVER see my wife complain about a meal before. When our waitress (she was great!) Asked how the meal was my wife told her. Later a woman, not a lady, came to our table concerning our dissatisfaction. She seemed to be insulted and left in a huff. Normally a dissatisfied customer is given a discount or a free dessert. Something. Nothing was offered. What should have been an enjoyable dining experience for Saint Augustine residents celebrating their anniversary was left lacking. 🤢“

I was pretty fooled when I stepped in to a totally different atmosphere, a place where all the locals come, and it was packed, sat at the bar Andrew the bartender took care of us. He was amazing. He was on top of his game. Nothing unusual for him whatever he suggested was excellent service excellent food excellent wine excellent I drank sangria from Spain so did everybody else in the place? “This place was great !! The vibes on the back patio were great. Had some delicious fries with the best ranch as an appetizer. The Miller lite on tap was great and the pink lemonade with vodka was a hit.
Our waitress with dark brown hair and a flower tattoos on her arm was amazing. She was very attentive when we sat at our table, and she was great at coming back to check if we needed anything else after our food came to the table without being overbearing.
