“This "hole in the wall" bar was unlike the other "hole in the wall" bars you will typically go to. The staff was incredibly nice, the food was actually great and of course the prices were lower then your typical bar and grill. This might not be the place to go to for watching football, they are more of a karaoke bar but even the local usuals were friendly and it all made the experience nice. I would go back to try more food and have a cheap drink or two.“
“Great food, great service, great atmosphere. The owners here know how to do it right. From the personalized license plates donated by the regular customers, to the great menu. The whole north wall is literally covered with famous historic figures from Kansas and Missouri. They have really got something cool going. It is like a great, small-town pub. Every time we have gone, it has been great. You should go.“
“I must say, I believe this is the best restaurant in Shawnee. It’s becoming a favorite of ours as we’ve loved the food each time. This was our first time dining in for lunch and the atmosphere is great too. Friendly staff, an array of products sold, and a beautiful setup for lots of natural light to come in, you’ll enjoy your time here.Personally, I love the amount of healthy options they have. This time I went with the harvest quinoa bowl. Very fresh with great ingredients.“
“Had the BEST customer service there by a young lady named Dee or Vee? She has beautiful braids and the best personality. It was really loud and I couldn’t hear that well but I’m from out of town and she was the best service we had the entire trip. The food was amazing and the portions are great. Every time I’m in town I’m going to make sure to stop here at least once and I’ll be recommending to everyone.“
“Great place to watch the game! Not a huge space but nice atmosphere and *plenty* of TVs if you’re looking for that. We both liked the food. I really enjoyed the jalapeño cheddar grits. This place seems to put more effort into theirs than many places do. The chicken quesadilla is good as well. Nothing special about the chicken itself but the red onion marmalade has a nice flavor and I think the flavor of the salsa was my favorite part. Good drink specials/selection and friendly service, this may be our new go-to sports bar.“
“Jake's place is a fun neighborhood hangout. I have only ever had the appetizers, but they are all great and also a little different than what you would typically see at a bar, i.e. traditional eggrolls. The service is fast and the drinks are cheap. This isa go to place for an after work hangout!“
“How have I missed this place for the past 1 1/ 2 that I've been living here? The food is fantastic! The service is fantastic! We had the corned beef hash and country eggs Benedict breakfast and wasn't disappointed. We will now come back here everything we go out on the weekend. Thankyou owners!“
“This is the best bar in KC, dive or not. Huge variety of people, fun atmosphere, and everyone is NICE. Like, every single person. No, the food isn't the greatest, just typical deep-fried frozen stuff, but the service with a smile makes up for it. Betty's always a joyous experience. Mean people, stay away, you are not welcome here (but you might walk out a changed person).“
“Top notch. We went on a Friday night. Wow. The menu, though relatively small, was amazing. The service was really extraordinary. The food was quite delicious. This is, by no means, an inexpensive restaurant. It is however, a wonderful experience, and worth every penny.“
“I was lucky enough to have Pegah's cater a staff breakfast for 55 people. I arrived early (30 minutes before we were starting breakfast) and the folks from Pegah's were set up and ready to go. The food was hearty, fresh, and down right good. We had bacon, biscuits, gravy, hash browns, freshly cooked eggs, (right on site - not cooked and reheated), and sausage. It was great! We are always pleased with Pegah's!“
“This is the perfect brunch spot to catch up with a friend on the weekend. A lot of options on food . If you want to choose to eat healthier there’s a ton of options!Service both times has been amazing ! Parking is the only thing that sucks!“
“First time stopping in. The place is not too bad, started off quiet but as the meal progressed it got louder. But overall not too bad.Justice was our waitress and she was excellent. I’d recommend her anytime, she was awesome. I let her decide the amount of tip she wanted, she earned it.“
“Went for my daughter maleahs birthday with large party. Our server was very nice and attentive. Food came out quick and was hot and good. They sung happy birthday and brought her ice cream. Great time will be back!!Kid-friendliness: Great birthday experience for 13 year old“
“Egg yolks came out soft boiled. I asked for runny yolks. The hostess apologized, took my plate and 15 minutes later returned with a better result. Thank you. Typically this location is a 5 of 5. It's ok to send something back to get the proper product as requested. No offense meant or taken.“
“By FAR the BEST chicken tenders I have ever had!!! I mean these things were not only made 100% from chicken, but we're tender, moist, and flavorful!! Paired with a good size amount of fries and it's a delicious meal!! Give them a try definitely!!“
“A friend of mine recommended this place as she frequents so much, they know her by name. With that being said, I had to try! I've personally never been to the location, but I have visited a food spot next to it and it seems to be very spacious with plenty of parking especially during the day. We ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap, Buffalo ranch on the side so we could control the sauce amount as well as the spice, extra ranch on the side and a couple tator tots (clearly eaten before the photo was taken). Surprisingly for as simple as it is, the chicken had a delicious grilled flavor, lettuce super crisp, cheese delish and the Buffalo sauce had a little tanginess to it that just pulled everything together. I'd definitely come back and I look forward to trying other items on the menu!“
“Stopped in for late lunch on the patio at Johnny's in Shawnee today, it was just what we were looking for. The KU game was playing so they were packed. Despite that, service was great, quick, efficient, our smiling pleasant waitress got my order just right. My shrimp skewer appetizer with "all the sauces on the side" was the best dish I've ever had at a Johnnys. I definitely recommend if you're a shrimp fan. He loves the burgers here. Love that they have a patio option and welcome our 4lb Milo (who doesn't love Milo though)“
“I wrote a RAVING review about this place, and for some reason... it didn't post, and I can't find it to repost all I wrote. Lol.The general gist was that this bar is absolutely AMAZING!!!The staff, from the bar to the kitchen, were absolutely AMAZING!!!The beer and the WINGS WERE A SHOW STOPPER!!! I mean, honestly, I have never had wings more delicious than what they serve here. The BEST wings in Kansas/Kansas City Area!!!We got the Garlic Parmesan, Buffalo, and Barbecue; all Charred and Sauced. I loved how they did the menu to give you so many options to choose on how to make your wings to your liking. The environment can be a bit anxiety spiking if you are not used to that type of environment (literally just me, my boyfriend had the time of his life) but once we got settled, the anxiety started to fade and I felt protected, which I wasnt expecting. The staff (she seemed to do all the up front bar work, order taking and serving so I don't know the technical name for that but she's a BOSS in my eyes) came around, she was absolutely amazing, respectful and extremely patient while I took a minute to figure out what I wanted.Once we ordered, she brought his beer out, which was delicious! And the wings came out shortly after that.I had to temporarily stop our feasting for this ONE photo because I knew I had to come back and write a review about how amazing this place is.This is an absolute GEM of a bar situated next to a Walmart.A slice of history and heaven all rolled into one.I am so grateful to have experienced the beauty that is this bar and all the wonderful joys that came with visiting.Parking: It's located right next to a Walmart, so there is parking no matter which way you swing it.“
“Nom nom nom... This location is a hidden gem. We made a reservation for just the wife and I for a special occasion. We got there and were seated immediately. The place is broken up into several dining "rooms", rather than just one big space. So noise is limited to just the other parties that have been seated in your section. We could see this as being a good or bad situation depending on the other parties... Looking over the menu there are a number of appetizing options. We ended up going with the "meal for two". It's a 4 course meal for two people. Shared appetizer and dessert, but diners can choose between the soup or salad, and a pared down list of entrees. All this for $99. And they don't skimp on the portions. I can eat a lot and we both still ended up coming home with leftovers. Our server was attentive but didn't hover. She was patient and informative with her answers to our questions. Food came out at a good speed for there to be little wait between courses. Our drinks were refilled when appropriate. For our appetizer we chose the goat cheese with habanero jam. The heat of the jam was well balanced with the cheese. They give way more than what can fit on the bruschetta. For the second course, we could choose between a prime rib stew and 1957 salad. We both went with the salad. The size was good and there was plenty of stuff on top. Dressings were good too.Third course, the wife went with the petit oscar (5oz bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin, lump blue crab meat). She usually gets fillet mignon, but really liked this as well. I had the pork chop(s). The menu says plural, but honestly, they are the meat of one thick cut chop with the bone removed. I know my pork chops... Don't get me wrong. It's a lot of meat with or without the bone. It was grilled to perfection. So juicy... Compliments to the boys in the kitchen! I had sides of Parm broccoli and sweet potato fries. The broccoli was perfectly steamed. Done but still a lot of crunch. No mushy greens here. The sweet potato fries are waffle cut and also done to perfection. Crispy and sweet. It's so easy to mess up sweet potato fries for them to come out mushy and bland. Not here.Dessert: we went with the cheese cake but got it to go. We were just to full to eat it there. But come on... It's cheese cake. This location of this KC steakhouse is a literally hidden. It's on the west side of 435 on Midland Dr. Only other thing there are a couple hotels. On a Saturday night there were a lot of tables open. Maybe everyone is at home watching basketball. Don't know. But the kitchen knows what's up. The server we had was top notch. It was a real treat to get this quality without being crowded. We had a wonderful meal and were able to have nice conversation without trying to talk over a near by table. The only negative, and I say this after sitting there for 90min, the chairs could be a bit more comfy. My rear needed something else after the first 60min.. I know.. it's nit-picking. Everything else was grand for our special occasion.“
“March 2024Following a show at Aztec, it made perfect sense to return here with my wife and parents. They never disappoint. Lovely atmosphere, always very friendly staff, and beautiful food. I enjoyed the lobster bisque but was especially blown away by the lobster pasta. Wandering Vine’s chef is truly creative and I greatly admire her colorful original plating.June 2023My parents enjoyed Wandering Vine so much that we were all excited to go back when they were in town over the weekend. Funny enough, we ate at the same table where we sat last time. This place certainly has a unique charm to it, with a nice atmosphere that you won't quite find anywhere else. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and our service was wonderful. I had the braised lamb shoulder pasta. It was cooked to perfection and the flavors were fantastic. The toasted pine nuts were a nice touch. The only thing I would have changed is substituting the edamame for something else. It added nice color, but it was a little too much crunch for my taste. My wife had the special, which was goat cheese cavatelli pasta with crab meat. Absolutely delicious. My dad enjoyed the filet mignon and we all enjoyed our wine flights--one of my favorite things about this restaurant. Mine included wines from Argentina, France, and Washington. We didn't save room for dessert, but we did get a taste of the gazpacho, which was very flavorful with a nice kick to it. They are rotating their menu in a few weeks, so definitely reason to return.Feb. 2023Had dinner here with my wife and parents and we LOVED it. Sometimes it can be hard to find a place that satisfies both of my parents but we all thought the food was delicious and original. The staff was extremely friendly and professional as well. The place itself is quite unique too and I would recommend it for a nice romantic dinner. We can't wait to go back.“
