“Went to Choo Choo Train with five friends. Ordered Miso Salmon entree and it was delicious. Salmon was grilled perfectly, broccoli and carrots were cooked well and still crunchy, and mashed sweet potatoes were yummy. Cannot say enough about food and attentive service. Will return...no doubt!“

I've been back multiple times and always leave soo content. The omakase is fantastic, and Frankie is an artist at what he does. Every course is a delightful experience of perfectly paired flavors.

Beyond the food, Frankie and his staff make the experience. I always enjoy sitting at the counter, visiting and watching him craft each course.

I needed to feed a small group and asked about platter offerings, but was told they don’t have any set menus. They asked what I was looking for and made some recommendations to fit my needs and requested budget.

To say that I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. They delivered and then some. It was a combination of various sushi, regular rolls, and specialty rolls.

They also asked about any potential allergies in the group, along with any specific preferences or dislikes.

The food was fantastic in taste and presentation. It was well packed and came with plenty of ginger, wasabi, and miso soup. They also gave me delicious tea while I waited for them to complete my order.

“Ordered via GrubHub for a late Friday night dinner when the sushi craving hit. I ordered a tuna bowl, and hubby had a salmon bowl. All of the sushi bar bowls come with edamame, miso soup, seaweed salad, kani salad, regular salad (in this case, it was arugula), and avocado. The fish came in huge chunks, lightly marinaded, and tasted fresh. No complaints. I’d order again and try some actual rolls next time. I saw on their menu a pretty good deal for lunch - $12.50 for three regular rolls, so I’ll have to check that out.“

“We had an amazing omakase experience at Shinn West while celebrating both my son’s and daughter’s birthdays. It was my daughter’s very first omakase, and one of my favorite parts of the evening was watching her expression every time she finished a piece, her eyes lit up, and she was completely captivated by each bite.

The quality of the fish was outstanding. Every piece was incredibly fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and practically melted in your mouth. The attention to detail, from the presentation to the service, made the meal feel very special.

My son, who has been to several omakase restaurants in the city, also gave it a big thumbs up. He agreed that Shinn West absolutely lived up to expectations.

The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that I wish the chef had been a little more interactive and engaging. A bit more conversation or personality would have elevated the experience even further. That said, I completely understand that with a 55-minute seating, the chef is working under a tight schedule and needs to keep things moving.

We visited for a family gathering and were shown to a private room; the service was attentive, and they kept refilling the delicious side dishes.
The sashimi was fresh, as was all the seafood. There was a wide variety of tasty accompanying dishes, and the staff were all friendly.
The aged kimchi was particularly outstanding—the assorted sashimi paired with it was truly delicious.

“Sushi and food is pretty good overall but the service at this place is really hit or miss. There are two (I believe) revolving servers/people who answer the phone. The younger server is very polite and friendly. However the other is incredibly rude, on the phone, and in person. I ordered from this place very often in the past but I will no longer be ordering from here. His attitude makes it not worth it for me. Overall if you’re just looking for good sushi this place is fine, but don’t expect good service.“

“We had dinner at Matsu on Friday......its a little gem in Hillsdale. We were pleasantly surprised, by the quality and quantity of the food. The Staff went out of their way to accommodate us. They very friendly and warm. It was a most enjoyable dinner. We have ordered food to takeout but hadn't been inside the restaurant since the pandemic.... We will definitely go again soon.
