I decided to treat myself to celebrate the end of my doctorate program. It was a totally spontaneous decision, so I didn’t spend much time choosing a place. I opened Resy, typed “sushi midtown,” picked one of the top-rated spots, and honestly—I’m so glad I chose Sushi Yolo.

The food was great, but what really made the night special was Alex, the host. He was incredibly attentive and welcoming. I ended up having such a fun and meaningful conversation with him and another guest, Jerry—which is rare for me since I don’t usually talk to strangers. We talked about all kinds of things, and the vibe was just so easy and genuine.

Alex also kept pouring complimentary sake on the house, which was such a generous and thoughtful touch. This is one of those nights I’ll definitely remember—the atmosphere, the food, the conversations, and the company.

I brought a new guest to the restaurant, and she did not have an enjoyable time. She was asked to move her bag even though the bar hooks was not suitable for hanging it, and later, we felt rushed out of the space. While I understand that the restaurant may need to accommodate other parties, the venue was fairly empty, and it was very cold outside. After paying for our meal, we were finishing our conversation when we were asked to collect our coats, which added to the feeling of being pushed out. In the future, it would be helpful to communicate any dining time limits at the beginning of the experience rather than at the end. As a loyal supporter of this location, this visit felt disappointing and not aligned with the standard I've come to expect and recommend to my community.“

“If you have not experienced Omakase before, or are always on the lookout for high quality fish, you should stop by here! The flavor combinations were absolutely fantastic. The chef is very educated and versed in anything sushi, as well as other cuisines. There was a large selection of sake, and we were guided on what pairs well with certain types of fish. “Fuku Omakase was a decent experience overall. The courses were well-executed, the fish was fresh, and everything was generally good. However, a few details held the meal back from being truly memorable.

One issue we had was the rice. It was overcooked and too soft, which affected the texture and balance of the sushi. Additionally, the atmosphere was not as refined as expected. The background music was TOO loud, which seemed to encourage customers to raise their voices just to be heard. It made the space feel more chaotic than relaxing.

Fuku has potential, but a few adjustments—especially to the rice and the ambiance—would make a big difference.“

And even better is that there are multiple counters and tables so you're actually able to get a reservation rather than competing for just a dozen seats per night. 😄 Really, though, the food and service are great. I have taken multiple groups here on business dinners, and we always have an excellent meal. And the service is so attentive - for example, they noticed my friend was left handed so they reoriented her plate (we were at a table, not the counter) to accommodate her on every course. I also recommend getting the beverage pairing to go with your omakase courses. The sommelier does a great job.“

I’ve tried several dishes here: Uni Buckwheat Noodles, Old-Fashioned Fried Chicken, Clam sujebi (수제비) , Spicy Seafood Stew, Beef Tartare, and Sweet Potato Fries. The Uni Buckwheat Noodles taste luxurious—perfect if you want a refreshing, pasta-like dish. The Old-Fashioned Fried Chicken takes a little time to cook, but it’s totally worth the wait—they even cut it for you! The Handmade Dumpling Soup is so 얼큰 and flavorful you might find yourself reaching for a whole bottle of soju, and their soups always come in very generous portions. The Spicy Seafood Stew is huge and packed with fresh seafood—it’s definitely worth the price. Sweet potatoe fries and beef tartare is a good option for side dishes. We got a service I think the name was seafood avocado but that was def would be a great side dish when drinking wine.
The service is excellent too. I dropped my fork once, and someone immediately brought me a new one—attentive service like that really makes a difference.
The vibe of the restaurant strikes a perfect balance between elegance and casual comfort. It’s great for a casual date, a team outing, or just a relaxed night out.
I will definitely be coming back and would highly recommend Anytime Kitchen to my friends. This place is a hidden gem that hits all the right notes!
