“Really great small place with all you can eat sushi for $32 per person. It even included some appetizers! The sushi was small but a great size when you’re doing all you can eat.
The only downside of this place is that it has a small parking lot you can only park in after 5 pm (which is when the restaurant is officially open for sit down so make sure you check timing) and they charge for WATER. Literally handed me a bottle of water for $2.
I understand soda charges but WATER? That’s a let down and they also do not tell you it’s not free water or not served in a glass. Everything is from a bottle or a can. Be aware of that!
Other than that the staff was attentive, it was easy to order and overall good food!“

“I came here a friend and had 2 rolls (salmon and tuna), one sea urchin, and one wagyu single piece. All the food was incredible. Some of the best sushi I've had in my life. My friend had 2 vegetarian rolls, which both were delicious. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys higher quality sushi, especially at lunch since they have some discounted rolls.“

“Fantastic speakeasy sushi joint. Very small, no more than an handful of people may join the omasake style bar where 3 talented (and cool) chefs serve you the best crafted sushi you can get. Definitely going back soon.“

“If you love sushi and want a dining experience, I highly recommend trying Genki Omakase. They have two branches, both highly rated, and my husband and I had such an amazing dinner here.
It’s a 15-course omakase, where the chefs curate each dish for you and every single bite was exceptional. Sitting at the counter and watching the chefs expertly prepare everything right in front of you made the experience feel so immersive and special. The pacing and flow between each course was seamless and the service was impressively fast without ever feeling rushed.
They also have some standout à la carte options (especially the Kissing roll with wagyu, toro, caviar and foie gras). Absolutely unforgettable. My personal favorite from the omakase was the O’Toro topped with caviar and a delicate dusting of gold, but honestly, every bite was memorable.
They only seat a small number of guests, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Such a beautiful dining experience from start to finish.“

“My daughter chose this for a birthday dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was fantastic. Audrey was our server. She was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, made great recommendations, she was there when we needed her without being there too often. I would highly recommend Rosella Sushi. Can’t wait to get back to New York City and return for a meal here. It also makes it extra cool when Chef Jeff is wearing a Florida Gator hat!“

“I’ve lived on the Upper West Side for four years now, and Sushi W hasn’t raised their lunch set prices once in all that time—a truly remarkable business practice.
Lately, they’ve also introduced a sake tasting and regional showcase series, offering complimentary sake and seasonal fish from specific regions.
Every visit to Sushi W is a delight; the experience never ceases to amaze me. A huge thank you to Yon-San for continuously delivering such an wonderful experience for us!“

“Sushi Saikou offers a modern omakase experience focused on high-quality fish, creative pairings, and a more personal chef-driven atmosphere. The restaurant has a calm and intimate setting that works well for special occasions, date nights, or anyone looking for a more interactive sushi experience. The counter seating allows you to watch the chefs prepare each course while learning more about the ingredients and techniques behind each piece.
The omakase menu highlights carefully selected seafood, with courses that go beyond traditional sushi by incorporating unexpected flavors and combinations. At around $120/person, the standout creations include premium pieces like toro paired with caviar and truffle, as well as other specialty bites that add richness and texture to the experience. The fish quality is the foundation of the meal, with each piece served with attention to detail.
One of the strongest parts of Sushi Saikou is the hospitality. The chefs and staff create a welcoming environment rather than a purely formal tasting experience. Conversations at the counter make the meal feel more personal, and the explanations behind each course add another layer to the dinner.
The pacing is designed around a shorter omakase format, which makes it easier to fit into an evening, although those looking for a longer, slower tasting experience may want to consider the course options and any additional pieces. The portion sizes are refined and focused on quality over quantity.
Overall, Sushi Saikou delivers a polished omakase experience with excellent fish, creative dishes, and warm service. It is a strong choice for anyone looking for a memorable sushi dinner where the interaction with the chef is just as important as the food itself.“

“Had such a great experience at Zen Sushi Omakase. The entire 14-course omakase was paced perfectly, and you can really tell the chef adjusts the timing based on each table, which made the experience feel relaxed and thoughtful instead of rushed.
The progression of the meal was super well balanced. It started with lighter white fish like flounder and sea bream, then gradually moved into richer cuts like striped jack, isaki, and salmon before going full luxury mode with uni, caviar, wagyu, foie gras, otoro, and black truffle.
One of the most memorable bites was their layered wagyu + scallop + foie gras piece. Every layer added something different — rich wagyu fat, sweet scallop, then the creamy foie gras at the end. Definitely one of those “wow” bites you keep thinking about after dinner.
The wagyu toast with monkfish liver and caviar was also incredible. Crispy toast soaked with wagyu fat, creamy ankimo spread, and salty caviar on top created such a rich but balanced bite. It felt like a really fun NYC-style fusion omakase moment.
Another highlight was the lightly torched otoro with black truffle. The tuna completely melted in my mouth and the truffle aroma slowly opened up as you ate it.
I also loved the miso cod and caviar rice bowl at the end. The cod was buttery and smoky from the grill, the caviar added a perfect salty umami flavor, and the vinegared rice balanced everything surprisingly well. The uni on the side was super sweet and fresh with zero fishiness.
What really made the experience stand out was the atmosphere. The chef explained the fish and preparation throughout the meal, and the whole dinner felt interactive and fun rather than overly formal or intimidating like some traditional omakase spots.
For the price, this is honestly one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC. Definitely a hidden gem in LES and somewhere I would happily come back to.“

“Kaki Sushi was phenomenal. The staff was excellent—friendly, welcoming, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu and sake offerings. They struck that perfect balance of being attentive without being intrusive.
The sushi was outstanding: incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and inventive without feeling forced or gimmicky. Having eaten sushi all over the world, I don't say this lightly—Kaki ranks among the most memorable experiences I've had.
The absolute highlight was the deep-fried eggshell stuffed with tuna and other carefully selected ingredients. It was pure perfection—one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the meal is over. Every course showcased exceptional technique, creativity, and restraint.
They also have a solid sake selection, but it's great that they offer BYOB as well, giving guests plenty of options.
In a city packed with great sushi restaurants, Kaki manages to stand out. Highly recommended, and I'll definitely be back.“

“PHENOMENAL! I was a little leary of omakase in East Harlem and at the price point, but this place hits it out of the park. Very simple ambiance and decor but made up for by very charismatic service staff and professional cooks. Splurge on the premium omakase, it's worth it for the chutoro...nice and fatty. Will definitely give Sugarfish a run for their money and it's nice to see uptown. Meal can get a little rushed at times given the high turnover; however, the pace keeps it moving. Nice to see this quality food and experience uptown, and I will definitely be back.“

“Pros: Good spot, good food, good sushi selection for being a small space. Cons: Place was very busy when we went (6/13/21) and service was slow. Took 20 minutes to get dessert. Some of our plates and soy dishes were not well cleaned from previous use. Ordered and was charged for two dishes to go, but only one was actually packed. Overall 3 stars due to the cons we experienced, but hoping that was just catching them at a bad time.“

“I've been to a dozen omakase places across nyc and japan, and this is a standout gem. Chef takes a modern approach to sushi with his own style, but preserves the essence of sushi. The flavors are elegant, layered, and delicious.
Standouts include the black cod with black truffle, trout (smoked?), hokkaido scallop with hokkaido uni, fish with bottarga and foie gras, and all kinds of toro (tuna).“

“Always Craveable 🥂🍣🍞
A special Sunday brunch at the sushi counter where the entire experience was effortless. From the attentive service and finesse of the fresh sushi to the spectacular talent across the kitchen, the passion here makes the quality truly superb.
A highlight of the Mother’s Day brunch was the special Matcha French Toast—a beautiful treat for the palate and a total standout. The touches of Pommery bubbles and fresh flowers made the celebration feel truly memorable.
Happy 1st Anniversary! 🥂
Cheers to Oliver & the kitchen, Joseph, Nick & team for an incredible first year. The care that goes into every plate is unmistakable. In a city filled with endless options, the heart and creativity here are exactly what make this spot a true nabe gem.
Relish and enjoy the moment—navigating year one is a remarkable accomplishment. Keep inspiring everyone, because the best is yet to come.
Thanks for making our month & see you all soon! 🥂✨

10/10 All Around! 🥂✨
Unwinding with a little Friday sparkle and some indulgent nibbles… fabulous as always. The chu-toro tartare with truffle dashi & caviar is always a must-have—paired with Pommery bubbles.
Nick is such a fabulous host! He seamlessly accommodated a last-minute request to pair wines with the tasting menu and expertly guided our move from the bubbles to white wine, sake, and finishing with a perfect red, sharing great insights on each pour, which we all absolutely loved. He was so thoughtful and even provided small tastings for our non-drinking friend so she could experience the flavors!
The Chef’s Tasting Menu was exceptional again, with a great variety of sashimi and sushi. I also couldn’t resist adding some of my favorites: the uni sashimi, seared scallop with uni, and the seared toro—the latter has a fabulous new twist too.
Huge thanks to Nick, all the chefs and kitchen team, the bartender, and the staff for the usual incredible care!
See you all soon!
Prior Review - April 2026
Back at this neighborhood gem—as Nick so perfectly puts it, my little reprieve from the hustle & bustle of NYC. I just found out my review is still stuck in the OpenTable moderation queue since 3/22, so I’m resorting to Google Reviews! (Honestly, this platform is much more seamless and faster.)
During a hectic night, Joseph went above and beyond—from walking us through the tasting menu to ensuring the butter lettuce was paired with the chicken dish! Costas kept everything running smoothly.
The tasting menu is fabulous—kudos to Oliver and the kitchen for the elegant presentation on every dish. The broccolini with caramelized hazelnuts is a standout, with no leftovers to spare. Sitting at the sushi counter watching Andy meticulously craft a full sea bream was a surprise highlight, and Dong provided such amazing and skillful sushi preparation throughout the night. The add-ons for the Chu-toro tartare and seared toro with foie gras and uni are absolute must-haves every time—the uni is such high quality (AAA grade) and incredibly fresh.
Those thoughtful touches made our night the perfect start to the weekend.
Looking forward to the next visit!“

“On the Frequency of a Grain of Rice
We just had a lovely evening at Sushi Nakazawa in Los Angeles
You go in the way you go underwater. The door shuts on Robertson Boulevard and the ceiling rolls overhead in slow waves of concrete, blue and gold, and you sit looking up the way you look up from the bottom of a pool. My father was an architect. He said big ideas only happen under tall roofs. I thought of him the second I walked in, which does not usually happen to me over sushi. I paint, I make films and books, I cast bronze. I know what a poured surface costs. Somebody felt every wave of that ceiling. It is tasteful, not obvious, but the waves are there. You can almost taste the salt.
Behind the stone is Daisuke Nakazawa, Jiro’s old apprentice, the one who cooked the same egg two hundred times before it was good enough. I believe the story, because I have lived the other end of it. I lost twenty years of work to a fire once and started the counting over. The slow work is never about the egg. It is about the years, and what the years do to your hands.
The rice is the whole nomenclature here, the grain the old gods kept for the living. Warm as skin, every grain loose and standing alone, the vinegar so nuanced you feel it only as a ghost. I trust smell over memory, and that warm rice hit an old frequency in me I could not name.
We do the same thing with corn in Mexico, where the maize is an ancestor and a god. One seed, a whole cosmos. Both of them, for a minute, at the counter with me.
Then you eat, and silence. I do not know how they did it, but the volume is perfect. The room is alive and you can still have a conversation. Otoro like smoke. Eel soft as an offering. Each piece gone. Seven hundred years ago the monk Muqi painted six persimmons and then had the nerve to paint almost nothing else, and the nothing is the masterpiece. That is the grandfather of this food. Musashi said that from one thing you can know ten thousand. He could have meant a single piece of these beauties.
A place is only its people. Dean guards the biggest sake list in California like a shaman who knows he will convert you. Anthony works the floor like your night is the only thing that matters, and means it.
Alessandro, Vito, and Nakazawa spent years finding these exact humans, because you cannot fake grace, you find it one person at a time.
Every one of them is seriously warm. They are a little obsessed, the good kind. I know that obsession from the inside. I looked at them and saw my own people.
A confession. I go back further with this place than tonight, further than Los Angeles. My paintings hang on the walls of the private New York room. It started the way the best New York things do, with a bet nobody expected anyone to keep. Somebody kept it. I painted, the work went up, and a restaurant became a place with my own hand on its walls.
I came to New York young, out of Mexico, by way of London, with not much, and I learned there are three cities wearing the same disasters. One sells the postcards. Another the tacos and The other keeps you alive, through a kindness nobody photographs, the kind that wants nothing back. Alessandro and Nakazawa gave me that kindness and never took it back. Now they have carried it across the whole country to Los Angeles, and walking into this blue cave and finding it already there, waiting for me, made me feel welcomed again. It made me feel human. That, more than any single piece of fish, is the best part of being here now.
Do not wait. Figure out how to see that kindness, because it manifests in every morsel and every glass.
