“This used to be my go to spot for lunch and late dinner when cool beans was open in oradell and it is still my favorite place to go while I'm building sets or helping out at the Bergen county players I highly recommend the boneless bureau of combo or the egg drop wonton mix soup.“

“A calm and pleasant spot for lunch.

I came during the afternoon and the place was quiet.
The staff was very friendly and even asked how the meal was at the end.
Note: It’s self-service.

Food: The hand-pulled noodles and broth were fresh and excellent.
The fried side dish was crispy and flavorful.
Drink: The iced black tea with mango was light and very refreshing.
Tip: As you can see in the video - the portions are very generous.
I recommend ordering a small size because I couldn’t finish it.

Seating: I sat by the window facing the street. It was nice to eat and watch Broadway at the same time.
There’s also an inner bar table closer to the kitchen.
The place is clean and the surrounding area feels calm and safe.

Price: Very affordable and filling.
This was my first time trying authentic Chinese food and I was pleasantly surprised.
Highly recommend and worth saving for a real local meal.“

The staff were very helpful and the chef was able to replace the regular soy sauce with gluten free spicy soy sauce in many of the dishes. “I stopped in here yesterday for lunch and it was without a doubt top 5 foods I’ve ever eaten, both inside and outside the U.S. The malatang hot pot broth was so savory and umami I couldn’t believe how good it was. Medium spice level was just a tad too much for me and I handle spice pretty well (should have listened to the girl at the front counter…). Cant wait to go back and try the other hot and dry pots.“

“First time here yesterday and the food is great! I love all the selections and there’s great vegetarian options. Their egg fried rice was super fluffy and soft, worth the try! I got about 1.5 lbs of dry pot at 0.5 spicy and it was too spicy for me. I also think the saltiness can be reduced. Service was quick and restaurant is clean.

“Best chinese takeout around!Been coming here since I was a little kid (over 25 years). Food is good, portions are big. Your beef or chicken with broccoli actually comes with sizable amounts of beef/chicken. Other places just load up on broccoli to keep their profits. You can't go wrong!“

Insanely enough, we’ve even tried the Italian (yes, I said Italian) food on the menu and that was pretty good as well! It’s a crazy combo, but it works. “Visited New Jersey for the weekend, and this was one of the top restaurant recommendations from locals. It absolutely lived up to the hype.

Everything we ordered was delicious, but one of my favorites—unfortunately I forgot to take a picture—was the mixed vegetables. They tasted incredibly fresh with a subtle balance of sweetness and tangy citrus. It was the perfect palate cleanser and made me want to keep eating more skewers 😆

I did the AYCE lunch dine-in and left with basically enough food that I was full until the next day. Selection is broad enough for the price, and this includes fountain soda and ice cream as well.

Note you can also do a takeout buffet box, which it seems a lot of customers do.

I particularly enjoyed the freshly fried chicken, salt pepper shrimp, barbecue (char siu style) chicken thighs, fried crab, bbq rib tips, fried fish, string beans, and avocado salad. They have an amazing chilli paste sauce that really elevated the meal for me as a spice lover.“

“We are seriously SO impressed with Essex Chinese Kitchen. The food is amazing — everything tasted incredibly fresh, flavorful, and high quality. And on top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the portions you get.

We ordered the bubble teas (brown sugar milk tea and original milk tea), and they were SO good — perfectly balanced with that floral black tea flavor coming through. Not overly sweet, just smooth and refreshing.

I got the golden fried brown shrimp with fried rice and it was FIRE. Crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and broccoli, and they absolutely do NOT skimp on portions. The serving sizes were generous and so satisfying.

I stopped eating just to write how much I love this spot. I order almost once a week. The food never disappoints and I believe they truly deserve 5 stars. They have wonderful customer service, always pleasant when I call, speedy delivery, and quality food (and packaging) There is no other chinese food in bergen country i’ve found that I can say has all of these qualities about them. Tonight I ordered sweet and sour chicken with chicken lo mein. The lo mein is so good I would give it a 9/10. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite. 10/10. “It's Chinese takeout. There's a video of a guy that went to multiple different stores, and they all had the same thing: a lit up board with food photos, emotionless or sad looking owner behind the counter, and an ATM. I don't recall if this place had the ATM, but it certainly had the other two. I think the ATM guy is missing out.

The food is consistent with every other Chinese food place; it doesn't stand out either way negatively or positively. Know this, some places make this food wrong; it can either be the flavor (too acidic), the smell, or the bite factor. This places passes all of that; it is what you should expect from decent Chinese takeout.

If anything, the fact that some people had issues with toughness... It just means they velveted their food less, which is a good thing. Velveting is cheating and just adds moisture to the food; it's still the same lousy cut. At least now you get better volume and less water.

Anyway, make the man less sad by giving him more customers. This might be the last generation of Chinese takeout that's affordable before all of them retire and we have to get our fix at Sugar Chicken... I mean Panda Express.“
