Medium spice level was just a tad too much for me and I handle spice pretty well (should have listened to the girl at the front counter…). Cant wait to go back and try the other hot and dry pots.“

“The pickled cabbage was a 10/10—super simple but packed with flavor.

The Crab Meat & Pork Soup Dumplings were decent, but the crab flavor was pretty subtle. The broth was good, though I’ve had better versions in Flushing. The filling could also use a bit more fat and seasoning for richness.

The Peking Duck Spring Rolls were fine but nothing special. The duck inside leaned a little dry.

The Fish with Szechuan Sauce was excellent—very flavorful. Definitely one of the highlights of the meal.

The Crab with Tofu was disappointing. I was expecting something closer to a crab roe / mitten crab style tofu dish, but the crab flavor didn’t really come through.

Overall the food felt a bit hit or miss, but the standout dishes are excellent.

That said, the service, atmosphere, and ambiance were all great and made the meal really enjoyable.

“We are seriously SO impressed with Essex Chinese Kitchen. The food is amazing — everything tasted incredibly fresh, flavorful, and high quality. And on top of that, the prices are very reasonable for the portions you get.

We ordered the bubble teas (brown sugar milk tea and original milk tea), and they were SO good — perfectly balanced with that floral black tea flavor coming through. Not overly sweet, just smooth and refreshing.

I got the golden fried brown shrimp with fried rice and it was FIRE. Crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and broccoli, and they absolutely do NOT skimp on portions. The serving sizes were generous and so satisfying.

The staff were also super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better.

“I’ve been going here for 30 years and the owner is such a nice/kind man! Other staff is great too and are always friendly. The food is always great! Chicken wings & fries are always great. The spare ribs and rib tips are always delicious. One of the few places that have ham fried rice, which is yummy as well. They make the best shrimp broccoli I’ve ever tasted. “We were in the area and wanted some Chinese food, so we looked around the area and saw that this was one of the higher-rated places. I also noticed that they only take cash and do phone orders. We called on the phone, placed our order, then made our way over. We paid in cash and got the food. I ordered the boneless spare ribs combination platter, which comes with a roast pork egg roll and roast pork fried rice. We also got a small wonton soup. The boneless spare ribs were really good, striking a good balance between the sweet and savory that boneless spare ribs typically have. The roast pork egg roll was delicious and savory. Everything else, though, was not as good. The roast pork fried rice was pretty bland, as were the wontons and the broth that the wontons came with. For the price, though, it was reasonable, so I am not too upset.“

I visited your restaurant today and overall had a great experience. The food was fresh, tasty, and well-prepared. While the selection wasn’t very large, it was more than fair for the price — around $15 per person felt like excellent value. Everything I tried was genuinely delicious, and I also appreciated that drinks were included.

However, I’d like to mention one concern. It seemed that servers only refill drinks once or twice on their own, and after that they stop checking in unless asked. We noticed this pattern not only at our table but at others as well. Of course, when we asked, they were polite and refilled drinks — but without requesting, service became quite limited.

I’m not sure if this is an internal policy, but it does affect the overall experience. Perhaps it would be better to either allow more consistent refills or introduce a small additional charge for drinks, as some other places do, while maintaining attentive service.

Aside from this, everything else was excellent — great food, good atmosphere, and friendly staff. We still left a 20% tip, but I did notice that other guests seemed less satisfied in this regard.

I hope you’ll consider this feedback, as your place has a lot of potential and is already very enjoyable.

I stopped eating just to write how much I love this spot. I order almost once a week. The food never disappoints and I believe they truly deserve 5 stars. They have wonderful customer service, always pleasant when I call, speedy delivery, and quality food (and packaging) There is no other chinese food in bergen country i’ve found that I can say has all of these qualities about them. Tonight I ordered sweet and sour chicken with chicken lo mein. The lo mein is so good I would give it a 9/10. The sweet and sour chicken is my favorite. 10/10. Highly recommend if you want quick delivery and great chinese food.“
