“Super clean, great food. The service I would have given 6 stars the man in front helped us decide and gave us lots of recommendations which we needed! They have complimentary egg flour soup which I am usually not a fan of but was quite good. The chef came out and chatted with us after we got our food. So friendly! My kiddo got ramen which he said was the best noodle texture he's ever had. I got fried rice with shrimp and they made it spicy for me. It was flavorful warm and a huge portion. My husband got the beef and veggies which he said was great! We will definitely be back!“

“On my way home, I stopped at Donburi Factory to get my last poke fix for 2025. Was greeted by a delightful young lady, Olivia who took my order. We had a very pleasant chat while I waited for my order which didn't take long .
When I got home, I inhaled my Poke Don which was of course, fresh and tasty ! Olivia recommended some spicy mayo to add to the Poke and she was spot on. So, thanks Olivia for the spicy mayo tip and for being so personable.

“Anyone can seemingly make sushi seem better by making it more complex, but the real test is whether they can take the simple and make it excellent. Sushi-Ki-ichi does just that. They stick to the simple offerings, leading to an experience that feels less Americanized than other Japanese restaurants. That's not to say I don't love some level of creativity, but you don't need it here. That's because the family that owns Sushi Ki-ichi wants to create an authentic meal - a notion that was confirmed for sure when we had a conversation with the owner. In fact, they take quality to the next level with their equipment and efforts they take to make sure that what they serve is the highest quality, including specific freezers for the fish. We didn't try Sushi Ki-ichi for the first couple of years because we figured that the previous restaurant, a Chinese buffet that had gone downhill and fallen off the cliff, had rebranded and reopened as something new. Now I feel that for those first couple of years, we missed out. This has quickly become my favorite place in Portland. I look forward to any trips I take across town from Vancouver to Tigard, and make a point to stop in and grab a bite.“

“Went here on a whim with a colleague and the atmosphere is gorgeous and refined but has a taste of izakaya to it! The food was absolutely delicious! I had the shrimp tempura maki and the wagyu (from Hokkaido, not American wagyu) nigiri and it was perfect! My colleague had the sashimi bento and bao bun. She fell in love with the bao bun and miso soup that came with the bento. Staff are super nice, attentive, and ready to answer any questions about the menu. I will definitely be back!“

“Fresh, beautifully presented sushi with great variety.

We ordered a mix of rolls and appetizers, and everything was consistently good. The rolls were well-balanced—not overly sauced—and the fish tasted fresh. The spicy tuna poke had a nice kick without overpowering the flavor of the fish, and the blistered shishito peppers were a perfect starter.

Presentation was thoughtful and elegant, especially the specialty rolls and nigiri. You can tell care went into both the food and plating. Service was attentive, and the overall atmosphere felt relaxed but polished…great for a casual dinner or a special night out.

“I love this place! We are from out of town, the last 2 weeks I've been thinking of eating here, lol. And they did not disappoint! Went on a Thursday around dinner, it was busy! A little warm inside as Newberg was having a heat wave, but understandable. Estimated time, 20 minutes and it was spot on. Worth the wait, food was fresh, hot and tasted just like I remembered. “As a frequent visitor to Japan, I long for the authentic intersection between food, atmosphere and service. But mostly food.

Yuzu brings a good majority of this to the table. I found myself flashing back to an izakaya in Morioka (minus the tabaco filled air). Atmosphere is a check.

I started with the karrage, which came out perfect. Using the Japanese double-fry method, it's more of a steam than a fry. This leaves you with a thin but crispy outside and very juicy, not dry chicken, with very little grease. The aoili sauce really added to the overall flavor.
The sashito peppers weren't overly seasoned nor overly spicy, but rather had a good umami flavor.
The kimchi cheese spring rolls were the only non-Japanese item I ordered. They were unique and very flakey, but the flavors and textures did not mix too well.
I also ordered the cold soba. This is one of the rare time I enjoyed a cold soba. The flavor wasn't overpowering and the texture had a somewhat firm but melt apart texture.

Finally, they have a rotating donburi and this visit I scored as they had my favorite Japanese dish - the Katsudon. This was one of the best Katsudonburi I have had in the US. The seasoning had the perfect umami balance with sweetness. The Katsu was crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle, and most importantly the egg was just set and a little runny (I prefer more runny but in the US this is a good compromise to the usual scrambled egg you get on top)

Overall fantastic food and atmosphere. The staff were friendly, quick, and attentive.

Finally, we arrived 30 mins before they opened on a Saturday night, and it was practically empty when we entered and still had tables available when we were leaving.

My 3 other family members had the chicken teriyaki and I had the bibimbap myself and it was really good. “First time trying & don't know what took me so long. I'm a big fan of Katsu Chicken but rarely order it especially if done with chicken breast. It's rare to find chicken breast not overly dry so avoid ordering it. They told me they use thigh meat for all their dishes so went with it. This was wonderful, cooked to perfection, & a huge amount of food. I will be eating on it for two days. The place was super clean & put the food out quickly. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes.“

“It has been a long time since I’ve gone to a teriyaki restaurant because my wife has resisted it. Our friends wanted to go here and, I was excited, and my wife agreed. We both had the chicken teriyaki lunch special, which come with chicken teriyaki on a bed of white rice, a side of either sweet and sour chicken or three pot stickers, and a small side salad with a house dressing. I just assumed the sweet and sour chicken was what I receive in a Chinese restaurant. Boy was I wrong! It was like way over cooked fried chicken. It was so hard that it was difficult to eat and there was absolutely no sweet or sour flavor. My wife said the pot stickers were soft but did not taste very good. Fortunately, the teriyaki chicken was very good and adding the sauce to the rice made the rice very good. The house sauce on the salad was very good. The lunch special came with a soft drink and the entire lunch was $13.50. The lady behind the counter was very nice but speaks Japanese and very little English. I tried to tell her the chicken was almost inedible but she had no idea what I was saying. We do not live in Portland so there is almost no chance we will eat there again but I would recommend the chicken teriyaki with fried rice, which our friends had and they said it was very good.“

“On March 6, 2021 we ordered catering services from Zen teriyaki and Beaverton. The quality of service and food was amazing and the price point was spot on as well. We ordered their standard catering package and added on salad and 20 Eggrolls total cost before tipping was about $170.00. This was enough good for about 16 people. We only had 12 people, we ate the rest the next day as leftovers. I will use them in the future and I would highly recommend them to anybody who is looking for high-quality food with great service.“

The katsu was thick and properly done, not those super thin, westernized versions lol. Everything tasted really good overall.
If I had one small note, I wish the tonjiru had pork belly and that the ingredients kept a bit more texture. They were a little overcooked and kind of melted away. But still, really good and satisfying!“

“I've traveled all across the world. Lived abroad in Europe. I'm not exaggerating when I say Tokyo Grill is my single favorite food in the entire world. We always get excited about getting the chance to come here whenever we come to Portland. It's simple food, but they've somehow found the perfect formula; every bite is incredible. I'd take it over a Michelin Star restaurant every day. Plus, the old Asian couple that runs the restaurant is really sweet and warm.

It's a no-frills dining experience (we usually get takeout), and largely undiscovered; just a little place in the corner of a small unassuming business plaza parking lot. But if you're looking for simple styrofoam-box Asian food that will change your life forever, I can't recommend this place enough.“

“This place I would highly recommend. The serves here was very good and nice even though it took me forover for some people in my party to choose what they wanted. They also have good atmosphere and the tables are clean and doesn't take that much time to wait (5-10 minutes for my party). “I saw the negative reviews and was dismayed. BUT when we got there and saw the amount of people who were enjoying themselves. This amount of people would not have been and I was heartened by this. First off the service people. When we asked they were prompt. The sushi filled me up. The variety was astounding. I tried most of their different prepared vegetables dishes. Beef dishes as well. My wife ate her fill of various shellfish and other different kinds of seafood. The little dishes of ice cream was a nice touch for desert. It has a bit of everything for everybody.
