“Stopped here for lunch while I was in Philadelphia and it did not disappoint. I ordered a lamb gyro along with the chicken and lamb over rice, and both were absolutely delicious. The meat was seasoned perfectly, the portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh.

What really stood out was the customer service. Even though it’s a street cart, the guy preparing the food communicated with me throughout the entire process, making sure everything was exactly how I wanted it. Before handing me my food, he even made sure I was happy with how it looked.

Don’t let the fact that it’s a food cart fool you—this is restaurant-quality food with outstanding service. If you’re anywhere near the University City area, it’s definitely worth stopping by. I’ll absolutely be back the next time I’m in Philadelphia.“

I ran into them later at a food truck festival, introduced myself, and they gave me pizza to try—it was amazing and I breathed a sigh of relief that we chose wisely. Fast forward to June 17, day of wedding, and I was nervous—would people have to wait too long for pizza, did we choose types people would enjoy? Would the bacon wrapped scallops be a hit or miss (you know how that goes). Happy to say that everything was a hit! Jessica was easy to work with and the team there that day was wonderful! No one ever had to wait for pizza, they served it up and had another hot one ready to go. Everyone was so nice and customer service was some of the best I’ve experienced! I had several people tell me how good the pizza was and some even said it was the best pizza they’d ever had! Some said it was the best wedding food they’d ever had! First, the owners of the truck are particularly friendly and generous to people in this area. Next, I absolutely love their chili chicken over rice. It is extremely flavorful and quite spicy. It's a refreshing and lighter alternative to the heavier foods served by trucks around this area. I can't recommend this dish enough. I also enjoy the $1 naan. There’s one cook in particular — I think his name starts with a B — who I don’t see as often anymore, but he is always so friendly and welcoming. Every time he’s the one cooking my order, the food is perfect. I actually reorder certain items because I know he’s there.

Don’t get me wrong, the other cook is okay, but there have been a few mistakes on really simple items. I mostly order online, and I will forever be a Lil Trent’s fan, but I have to be honest — the dark-skinned cook definitely deserves more hours. He really does his thing back there.“

“Huge fan, I’ve never had a bad sandwich at Johnny Hot’s, until today 8/30/24. I was supposed to have just pork roll on a steak roll with spicy mustard, no egg and no cheese. The pork roll is usually cut very thin with a nice braise on it. It had egg & cheese on it. The egg & cheese were warm the meat was cool, no grill color to it. By the time I took the egg & cheese off there was hardly any pork roll, very disappointed. It was “no change” Friday, so I gave my apprentice 15 dollars for a sandwich I couldn’t even eat.“

The person in front of me ordered six plates, and he served them promptly. When it was my turn order, he greeted me warmly and served the food fairly quickly. The food is delicious and the portions are great, the meal comes with a drink as well. it's a plentiful serving because I only ate half for dinner and had the other half the next day for lunch and it was just as delicious. “This has been my favorite halal cart in the city for some time. If you live in the city you know there are bad carts and good carts, this is one of the best. Lamb and falafel are excellent. Service is quick and it's surrounded by perfect places to sit and eat. You will not be disappointed here. He isnt open too late, it varies with weather and time of year, but get there quickly after work. 5-6 pm he is usually still there.“

“I'm a big fan of the Mexican grill stand. Everything I've ever ordered has been fresh, with perfectly balanced seasoning. The food here is in a whole different league than anything you'll get at one of the cali-mex or tex-mex burrito chains (prices are about the same). The shrimp tacos combine tender & juicy shrimp with pico de gallo and a creamy/spicy sauce--tastes like it's mayo or sour cream based. The steak tacos have chopped white onions and fresh cilantro. Both come in real-deal double soft corn tortillas. Squirt some lime on everything! Enjoy a perfect lunch. But don't bother with their little salsa cups, both green & red are lackluster.“
