It was so wonderful, the food, the server, atmosphere and the creative creation when I asked for one of their signature cocktails to be hot vs iced. They were bold and surprising and our two non-vegan guests ate every last morsel and then some. The non-vegan nights are equally as extraordinary! Friendly, professional staff (Bas was out server tonight and he was great!) and just a fabulous experience!!! I love the fact that the head chef is a woman (as an aside)!”

“Had a lovely time with my fiance at this restaurant. We enjoyed a variety of dishes from mild to spicy! The service was great. The host explained each dish to us in great detail and accommodated our dietary restrictions. Also, the atmosphere is calm and serene. “Great neighborhood gem, but worth the trip from anywhere around RVA! It's a lively spot on weekends, so make a reservation. The bar was bustling and the community table was full and guests there were all enjoying each other's company. Our table for two was right in the middle of everything and the service was very attentive. The wine list was true to form with all Grecian wines on the list. Our server helped us find a great bottle. We kept the meal simple: dolmades with an excellent tzatziki, lamb chop lollipops that were perfectly done with accompanying grilled lemon and amazing coarse salt, and their Cypriot salad with arugula, shaved fennel, pistachios and grilled grapes. Richmond has a great dining scene and while there are many more places to explore, I'm looking forward to another Friday night at Stella's.”

“We had a great evening at Penny's Wine Shop - we enjoyed the full flight of featured wines by the glass and paired them with several of the shared plate selections. Oyster mushrooms conserva and potato dauphinoise were our top favorites with the Bolet Cava and Patience Blanc white blend, but everything we tasted was delicious – oh that Basque cheesecake! “I spent New Years Eve here and while the space was amazing, the planning and execution of the event was not. We paid extra for a VIP experience - the food was FANTASTIC! Probably the best thing of the night! The evening included a 90s dress contest, a 90s band and midnight champagne toast....Well, the contest winner was not even announced nor was added to their Instagram - there were 4 pictures posted out of everyone dressed up. Up in the VIP room, there was NO count down or anything - it was 2024 and we didn't even realize it - so much for our special midnight toast in the VIP Lounge! While I didn't know one song the band played, I was assured they were 90s songs. the advertisements should have said ONE STYLE of 90s music.. this event can be great....Just needs some work to it ... especially when people are paying extra!”

“Dinner at Alewife was the highlight of our five-day visit to Richmond. First off, it was a relief to get out of downtown Richmond with its huge empty parking lots, boarded up storefronts and deserted streets. The historic Church Hill section, with its 19th century row and other houses and interesting looking restaurants and shops, was such a pleasant change. Parking near Alewife was a bit of a challenge, but we quickly found a spot just a block away.The restaurant itself has a fascinating vibe, part friendly neighborhood spot and part disarmingly upmarket dining room. You just knew the food would be interesting, and it was. We started with a gin and tonic and a non-alcoholic beer. The menu is fairly short and apparently changes nightly, or at least frequently.I would never in this world think that I would enjoy an appetizer of raw oysters, bright green pickle juice, creme fraiche and fresh dill. But it was an amazing flavor combination. My partner's appetizer was equally interesting -- lox on thick, toasted rustic bread.As mains, we had the arctic char, with grilled carrots, and the skate, both perfectly prepared and delicious. Service throughout the meal was just right -- friendly, attentive but not overly so. Our charge for two, including tip, was around $150, well worth the price. Thank you for a great meal experience!”

“This is truly one of the better restaurants in Richmond! The ambiance was lovely, funky, quirky. The music was just loud enough. I cannot say enough good about the service and food. From the hostess to the serving staff our interactions were stellar. They were attentive without being intrusive. They anticipated every need and addressed every concern professionally and promptly. The food was outstanding. I got the swellington, my husband the rabbit. Both surprised and delighted us! Not only that, but they brought us two complimentary glasses of champagne in honor of our anniversary! All in all a truly outstanding experience. We highly recommend L'Opposum!”

The Ceasar needed at least twice as much sauce than what was given. Everyone enjoyed their mains and there's no complaints there. The menu on the night we went didn't have a vegetarian dish, obviously substitutions could be made, but vegetarian focused dishes are always a plus”

I had every intention of ordering an entreé, but there was so much deliciousness in the egg roll and so many catfish bites, I didn't have room for anything else. “I very much enjoyed the experience at Uliveto. The service and ambience were warm and inviting. As for the food, I enjoyed the olive bread and octopus special. Though I would have preferred the olive bread served warm. They reminded me of my many culinary experiences in Europe. However the portion and presentation when it came to the flounder entree was poor. The portion size was much too large and the presentation needed work. I thought the fish was cooked well. I think this restaurant has the opportunity to become a staple in the community. My hope is the menu options are decreased by half or more. A focus on a few dishes that are executed on well in taste, portion, and appearance would not only help customers avoid decision fatigue when choosing their meal, but would ensure consistent quality of food. Having a smaller menu would also help keep costs down by helping the restaurant have less food inventory which should ensure ingredients are consistently fresh. I would also consider having a separate wine bottle menu that is offered on request, while shifting wine by the glass to the cocktail menu.”

“We had a delightful experience all around. The dim lighting, candle light, live piano music, and perfect sound level made for a great ambiance. The food was also very good. We started with the baked Brie, then got the salmon (was a special) and the beef bourguignon. All of it was delicious and came in perfectly portioned sizes. The service was fantastic too. The server was helpful and super attentive. They recommended a beautiful wine to go with our meal, and our water glasses were filled throughout the night without having to ask even once. We will certainly be back! I recommend making a reservation as it filled up pretty quickly.”

They keep it as clean as humanly possible and 2 minutes later it will be trashed again by street people doing their thing. I can't imagine what the employees have to deal with on a day-to-day basis here. Cut them some slack. They're doing the best they can with what they have to work with and don't get paid much to deal with your grief and/or impatience. I've always had great service here and the lady at the register today was singing in the rain on an early Sunday morning while ringing up my coffee. Thank you, Sister.”

The chocolate almond croissant from Sub Rosa is the best one I've ever had..period. Also, the ham and cheese croissant and the tart was incredible. “These bagels are the undisputed champ in this part of the world! They get everything right. Somehow a buttered bagel completely misses the mark we sadly found out. This bagel is perfect but if you’re expecting butter this misses the mark completely . For context, in the bakeries in the Northeast a Buttered bagel or roll has BUTTER, not as much as a cream cheese smear but doggone close! That’s buttered! We could hardly see the butter between the slices which was very disappointing AND pricey since butter is $1. So please give me butter I can see, I’ll fix it if it’s too much, but I can’t do anything about it if it’s barely there. My advice? Stick with the cream cheese smear until they’re brave enough to really Butter a Bagel!”

“I was there for a pottery pop up market, advertised as part of a pot-pub crawl in conjunction with the NCECA Pottery Convention in town- I of course had to pop in for a cocktail! I got the Blackberry Smash- which was delicious, even if I was freezing and wishing for a hot drink! lol. I also was intrigued with their specialty simple syrups- I sprung for a blackberry vanilla simple syrup to take home for cocktails! The bar was brightly lit, fun menu boards and quick service! “Having not been to this location in over 10 years, I was very pleasantly surprised with my first time back. My dining compatriot and I arrived around 7:15 and we were lucky enough to choose a seat in Deborah's section, a seasoned waitress who knew how to take care of us, along with the rest of her section, and didn't stop for a moment. She was awesome! We encountered a small issue with a lack of signage at the grill which led to am embarrassing moment brought about by one of the staff, but the manager TJ was more than happy to come sit with us and hear about our experience. He didn't jump to the defense of the employee and acknowledged the lack of signage which led to the issue, agreeing with us that this was a great learning experience for the employee. The fact that he took the time to hear about the concerns and even chatted with us for a few moments spoke volumes about his abilities as a manager. As soon as he left our table, he was right back to ensuring the place was spic and span, giving directions to the employees who weren't busy at the moment, jumping in to assist customers wherever possible, and in general doing a damn fine job of managing the place! Despite the minor hiccup, we had a great experience dining there this evening and will certainly be coming back, hopefully seated in Deborah's section!”

We headed to the restaurant, but when we got there the owner explained that the restaurant had just closed for the evening. He gave us a few recommendations on other places to eat, and we started to search for an Uber. Along with some honey mustard dipping sauce and sweet tea to wash it all down, we had an amazing meal. I’ll definitely be back, and you should visit if you are in Richmond.”

I wish it had more than one entrance and exit. As you try and exit you block those coming in. The combo I got was good. I live the cane sauce it really set off the chicken.
