“Went on Tuesday for their open mic comedy. Awesome, low key vibes, comics were pretty funny, and beer was delicious. Favorite beer was Fake Landing! They have a food truck on Tuesdays and their bartenders are amazing. Pollo and Natalie were so accommodating and knowledgeable as they guided us on what to drink and let us try whatever we wanted. We can’t wait to become regulars here.“
“Tried the Dream Catcher and Margarita pizzas at Gypsy Poet—both delicious! Friendly staff, speedy service, and lively ambiance with great music. Parking is on the street which is not too hard to find. A delightful pizza experience overall.“
“We love this little neighborhood pub!So many delicious options for food and the bartenders are all super friendly!Definitely checkout the boiled peanuts, Astrodog and the grilled cheese.Vegetarian options: Pretzel with cheese, grilled cheese, salad, fried pickles“
“First time in this place yesterday, and I'm sorry I waited so long to check it out. I really like the atmosphere/environment -- it's beautiful inside! Definitely classier than the dive bars that I frequent, so I was shocked when the bartender told me about the $2.50 Karbach special that they were running. I was only in there for one beer and an inning or two of baseball, but during that time the owner managed to come over and introduce himself. Chayn is a very affable and humble man...I wish every success for he and his team and look forward to going back soon!“
“Some of the best wings in Houston! Definitely worth a visit. They offer 32 flavors, have other menu options if you're not into wings, and the Kool-Aid is good.I visited around 8pm and the food was cooked fresh and the service was great. Highly recommend giving them a try.“
“Rachel and staff are fabulous and have great knowledge about beer. Welcoming place to hang out after a good day in the start up ecosystem.Wheelchair accessibility: Multiple tables and booths that are accessible, easy access from both patio and inside.“
“This is one of the best cocktails bar in Houston, they have new amazing creations every month and the staff is super nice and knowledgeable. The fact that is sort of hidden makes it super cool and the decoration and ambiance are perfect to start your night away! For pre game drinks or night cap this place is a Houston jewel!“
“The only 2 things would be food since it's a hit or miss, but Luigi's is right next door so it's not that big of a deal; and parking, but bad parking you'll deal with literally anywhere in Houson. I literally never regret coming to Axelrad. I visually here with friends, but sometimes I come for an event and even then it's still a pretty good time. Good for dogs, and a kid friendly place during non-nighttime hours. And the events will vary and be pretty good. This is pretty much a Houston staple to go to.Parking: Not great, but parking around the neighborhood is ok for the most part.Kid-friendliness: Better on Sunday and during the day.“
“I was so happy to have an all purpose cafe within walking distance -- I really wanted to love this place for an occasional spot for happy hour and catching up with phone calls. At 5:30 pm, however, the seating was filled with HS students. Great to see a place for them to hang, but I'm sure I was crushing their vibe-- I still double space at end of sentence... lol. . . I did enjoy my Chardonnay, pretzel, and teams get together regardless.“
“Ambiance: I went here with family on a week night. This is in the heart of downtown so expect down town parking, side streets. Service: there was two bartenders and we had a good night. Food: no food but we just had high ball japanese whiskey. This place is a vibe.“
“I get the hype. Portobello salad? So delicious! I think what really stands out for Gypsy Poet is their fresh ingredients and aesthetic placement of the food. Might be more to it since I’m only basing it off of first impression, but I’ll definitely be coming back. Yes, coming back specifically for that portobello salad!“
“If you're looking for a great no-frills bar that guarantees an enjoyable time, Grand Prize is a must-visit. As soon as you step in, it feels like you've been transported back in time to the coolest neighborhood bar from your favorite 80s movie. The crowd is diverse, the DJs are top-notch, and the drinks are excellent. To top it off, they have a fantastic rooftop patio upstairs with plenty of seating to mix and mingle. This bar quickly became one of my favorites.“
“My partner and I wandered into this place while walking the dogs. We've now made it our regular spot. They are so kind with the dogs. It feels like they are hosting them as well! They bring them a dog bowl with ice water and a huge dog treat. I got to know Shannon today after seeing her several times, and I can't wait to spend so much more time there. It's a great spot off the beaten path of white oak and it may be my favorite my place to stop in from now on. Here's to many more random visits!“
“Really an amazing place. I got the shaking chicken banh mi with french fries. I honestly can't say I've had a better banh mi in my life. The bread was soft, the shaking chicken was savory and perfect. The fries looked double fried and tasted amazing. Staff make you feel at home, and there's a huge selection of on tap beers. Will definitely return.“
“Have been going to this neighborhood bar for years and it does not disappoint. Bartenders are amazing and very personable. They only serve beer and wine but their draft list is ????. They don’t serve food but will have pop ups. Mortuary BBQ and Bar-tek are two of the main vendors and their food is top notch.“
“Izakaya Wa is one of my top 3 favourite restaurants. All the food is so delicious and has a seasoned taste. I definitely recommend the torimune fried skewers, one order comes with 2 generously sized skewers, they were so good I had to get 3 orders! I also recommend the sushi dinner, all the fish is so fresh and the salmon has so much fat and the bluefin tuna was amazing also. You should definitely come here. I don’t live in Houston and whenever we come here for a couple days, we always come to Izakaya Wa.“
“This is a very good bar especially when the weather is nice. It is open air style like an ice house. Full bar and nice craft beer choices. They offer bar games like darts, billiards, and shuffle board. In the nice outdoor space bocce and corn hole.Awesome staff.“
“Hughie’s has been one of our favorite neighborhood places to eat since they first opened. The food and service is consistently top notch and speedy to boot. The last time we visited there was a mixup and we paid another tables tab which doubled our bill. I didn’t catch it as we were in a hurry to get the kids home and to bed. When I realized what had happened, I went back up there expecting to have to explain myself. They had already realized the mistake and corrected our bill. The manager and our server were also apologetic for something that honestly was as much my fault for not catching as it was there’s. So add integrity to the list of great attributes to this place! If I had any suggestions it would be for them to add more non alcoholic options to their excellent beer selections for those that don’t or can’t drink. Other than that, I’ve got nothing!Parking: Parking can be a bit tight at their busiest times but we are always able to find a spot.Kid-friendliness: We bring our kids here often as they have good, inexpensive options for them and are very kid friendly.“
“All servers work as a Team and never left my drink empty and Food service was fast and hot when it got to the table. Wings are a 10/10 along with the street tacos ? ?. I recommend the spicy cucumber micheladas easy to drink and the flavors are The Best?“
“I recently visited Mendocino Farms in Uptown Park, Houston, Texas. While I'm always greeted by polite employees, there was one by the name of Margo who stood out. Her professionalism and personality should be commended. She took more than an adequate amount of time to assure my happiness with the service while I waited for my take-out. Even when I expressed my discontent with the removal of a menu item, in my opinion, the best tasting one on the menu, Margo sympathized with me, which made me feel heard and understood, not ignored.I only gave four stars for the food because that menu item is no longer available. Otherwise, my experience with the staff, the cleanliness of the establishment, and the food would all receive five stars. Please return that sandwich. Many of us in Houston miss it. We would dine there more often upon its return.“
“My first time visiting Houston and decided to have Mexican food for dinner, I saw this place near my hotel and stopped because we thought it was so beautiful. The outside patio was gorgeous, it was even more beautiful inside. Wow I'm glad we decided to stop it was Amazing! We ordered the chicken and steak fajitas the steak was so delicious and tender it melted in my mouth and the chicken also so delicious and tender came with a delightful garlic butter. The beans that came with were great. For dessert I recommended the tres Leche cake. The restaurant manager Cane was so friendly and visited with us making us feel so welcome. Our servers Genisis and Wendy were wonderful.“
“I had the pleasure of dining at Hongdae 33 Korean BBQ, an all-you-can-eat gem in the heart of Houston. The experience was nothing short of fantastic. From the get-go, the array of flavors and dishes on offer was impressive, providing an authentic taste of Korean cuisine. The quality of the meats was top-notch, with a wide variety to choose from, ensuring every bite was as delicious as the last. What stood out was the staff's dedication to service, ensuring our plates were never empty and our questions never unanswered. Hongdae 33 has mastered the balance between quantity and quality, making it a must-visit for any Korean BBQ aficionado or anyone looking to delve into the rich flavors of Korea. Highly recommended!“
“Kid-friendliness: One time I went in, there was a baby walking around....made some noise. No one really seemed to mind, which I really liked. The baby wasn't bothering anyone, was just being a kid. They also allow dogs, and have dog treats to give to the dogs. I thought that was pretty cool! DO NOT bring outside food IN. By the time I was about to be finished with my food, I found out that's fround upon. The drinks are a decent price, still a little on the high end. Desserts too. Also, I'm cheap.........so do with that what you will. ?“
“It was my first time there. I really liked the location and the vibe. The staff was really welcoming. It was during the week and was a bit slower, just perfect for me. I hear they are the place to be, especially on the weekends. Will definitely be back, plus it's in my old neighborhood. Didn't get the name of the young man who was checking on us and made sure I had water. He was super sweet and attentive.“
“Empire Cafe consistently has some of the best bites in the city. My personal faves are the nutty chicken pizza (pictured) ,roasted red pepper hummus, and chicken tortilla soup when they have it! They also make a fantastic prickly pear margarita and espresso martini! Love the atmosphere and the longevity of this Houston staple should tell you all you need to know !“
“We were visiting from Boston and this place was everything a Texas bar can be and more! It was a whole vibe, a cowboy was going to walk in at any moment. Great hospitality, great atmosphere, a LOT of fun!!! My friends and I had the best time hanging out here. We can't wait to go back the next time we visit.“
“The schnitzel and spaetzle are DELICIOUS here. Consistently good. The owner was also very accommodating also about us bringing a pup we are babysitting out onto the patio on our most recent visit. We are new to the area and delighted to discover a great local business.Update 4 years later: still delicious. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the food here. Tried the weisswurst this evening. Packed with flavor on a crisp fresh bun. The dill spätzle is still my favorite. It's an unassuming spot, this place, but give it a shot.“
“Went for a concert and had a great time. Only bad things are, they need more bartender and not letting people stand on the dancefloor in front of the stage. The dance floor isn't that big since they moved things around, even with the seating right in front of the stage.Parking: They park you by the size of your vehicle. Parking lot is all grass. Trucks are parked along the fence.“
“December 15, 2021 Came in from Galveston to go to the Houston Botanical Garden a few blocks away and had time to kill so we stopped at the local bar in the barrio. And, I use that word because I know very little (por quito) Spanish and, this part of town is predominantly Hispanic and this bar reflects that culture in the sense of it's patrons, it's decor, murals that support their heritage and their city, Houston, etc, definitely an ole school dive. It sold pork skins and kettle chips with many (every kind) of hot sauce you could think of to top them. Yes! It has TV, music and 1 pool table They have steak night on Thursdays that the owner cooks out back They sell only beer and wine but you may be able to bring your own bottle because I saw set ups but, I dunno. Nice people. Laid back. Support local“
“This is a fairly new place that has been open only for a month and some. The owner was super nice and explained everything. They gave us some complimentary shrimp corn bisque which was delicious. I came for the crawfish and it was well seasoned on the inside and out. I will be back to get more, and try some fried food.“
“My favorite neighborhood bar. We love coming to hangout/play pool with a chill ambiance. Drinks are very decent for the prices they charge! Really only need 2/3 to do the job. It is dog friendly, so we always enjoy seeing the friendly pups roam around. Steve is our guy and never fails to take care of us.“
“My partner is in a wheelchair and when we arrived, someone had parked in a space that blocked off access to the ramp.My partner and I know the world wasn't built for people with disabilities, there's a general lack of care or consideration. We - like everyone else - learn to take the every day difficulties on the chin, and save our energy for the big battles. We don't get to just go to a restaurant without research and consideration. That's the mindset we brought to Holman, and when the ramp was blocked we didn't make a fuss and were getting ready to leave when a bartender saw us and got his team working on it. A group of 4 bartenders/maybe the manager kept going to everyone in the restaurant and asking whose car it was, trying like heck to get us in. They ended up figuring it out and we got inside, after which the manager comped our entire meal and drinks. When I insisted on paying the bartender turned me down and said it was nothing. The world wasn't built with disabilities in mind... But people, man they make living so much fun. Thank you to each and every individual at Holman for making a great evening for my partner and I. Good food is easy to find in this city but good people will keep us coming back time and again. To everyone who helped us, you are so deeply appreciated.Wheelchair accessibility: Ramps with wide turning space“
“Was a fun and chill spot. Definitely a place to visit with a date or friends. I went by myself and could definitely be used as just a hangout spot. Arcade games, one court outside, and super cute swings. They even have hookah on the patio. Did not try the food. I think they have food trucks outside. No parking esp on weekends. Have to park on street.“
“Had a fun night at this local bar! Great staff, clean bathroom, variety selection of drinks. Amazing owners. Stop by to have a drink and dance if you're in the area. DJ kept music going all night... Pool table and slot machines were there for entertainment“
“Went with a party of 10 without a reservation and we were able to get seated quickly and outside (our preference). They have a nice water pond feature and space for kiddos to explore. Food was great, we got the pork schnitzel sandwich and the sauerkraut, it was delicious!“
“Is a great place to go. We have been here pretty much everytime we go to downtown, or to a Astros game. Service and atmosphere varies time to time. Is a great place to try all kinds of drafts beers. It closes at 12am. So I recommend to start there.“
“Took my wife for a surprise get-together with her local bff and out of town bff for a milestone bday. Getting sat was quick and although they tried to sit us in front of the stage, there was no problem moving us. Our server Tristin (last name) was great. Personable and checked in pretty often as the place got considerably busier. Apps (crab stuffed mushrooms & prosciutto caprese bites) were okay. Crab in shrooms didn't have much flavor. Now the pizza was pretty good. Marg and garlic chicken for 5 people went over well. As this was the 1st visit for us 4 locals, we'll be back. Warning - parking can suck as they share a lot with 3 other places with the same hours. But they have more directly behind the bldg, behind a fence.“
“Chill lounge environment. Limited cocktail menu with great cocktails. Good views. Highly recommended.Tip: There are mini fridges with bottled still and bubbly water along the wall to the left of the bar (when facing the bar) that you're welcome to help yourself to.“
“I stopped in to see the Akabsma LSU game on a Saturday. They had one bar tender, Ashley, who was amazing, fast, and made a good drink. They could have used another they're to support her. It got bust a few times and backed up a bit, but over all, that woman never stopped moving. The place had plenty of TVs and decent prices for the heights. I would recommend it.“
“I was just telling the owner what a nice bar it was. We have a great time when we come.He came out after us and showed me my wallet.. literally takes care of his customers.. Thank you bro. Much love and just that alone made me feel at home.“
“A brewery inside of your Whole Foods? This was the first time I had stepped foot inside one of these and I was transported to happiness.Their bartender was freakin great and the local beer selection was top notch as well. I got to try a few of their beers and my favorite was their Smores stout. The smell was so powerful and smelled good and the taste accompanied it as well.“
“Nice place. Has some slots and gambling and 2 pool tables and hosts tournaments occasionally (actually really good players). Bartenders are really nice and friendly. There is food and drinks and bring your own hard liquor as they do not have a liquor license since it is a Texas ice house. Bathrooms are clean and I didn't feel uncomfortable like I didn't belong or was worried about my car being broken into.Only down side is parking but that's Houston for you.Definitely absolutely recommend.“
“Some friends have come from Spain on a trip and we wanted to take advantage of the day to have a picnic in a nearby park. We ordered two family pizzas, very good and we also tried the cannoli (very very delicious!!!). Close service and very good recommendations. 100% recommended!!!“
