“A good friend told us about this little gem of a restaurant; he often bought the banh mi to go for us at work and said they’re a great family-owned business.

Had time today to stop by and met Daniel, who immediately knew who we were when we said our friend would buy us their sandwiches. Daniel was super warm and inviting to my wife and I and we knew he valued our patronage and we knew we feel good about spending our hard-earned money with him.

He went over their selection and we decided to go for their wonderful deal of buy 5 sandwich and get the 6th one free along with drinks and some delicious Vietnamese yogurt. We got the thit nuong (BBQ) and the combo, and both were spectacular. I mean it, they were SPECTACULAR; the bread was toasty, yet soft and warm, the meats tasted perfectly seasoned & prepared and the veggies and pickled carrots were next-level fresh and many times, it’s the veggies that will make or break any banh mi. I’ve grown up eating many banh mi from many different restaurants all around SW Houston and Chinatown, and by far and hands down, Nguyen Ngoc’s is the best of the best.

“The food at Corner Bakery Cafe was delicious. The wraps were huge and very filling, the oatmeal was excellent, and the parfaits were the perfect size. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal, and the quality and portions were impressive.

However, there was one serious issue that kept this from being a 5-star experience. My father-in-law and I both ordered oat milk lattes. He's lactose intolerant, and I'm allergic to milk. While waiting, I watched the drinks being made with almond milk instead of oat milk.

Fortunately, neither of us has a nut allergy, so it wasn't a problem this time. But what if someone did? Receiving a different milk alternative than the one ordered could be dangerous for customers with allergies. Likewise, I've previously been served dairy milk when I specifically ordered and paid extra for oat milk, and it can leave me sick for days.

The food was wonderful, but I hope the staff takes extra care when preparing specialty drink orders. For many customers, it's not just a preference. It's a health and safety issue.“

The shop interior does show its age - but maybe upgrade some of it to at least not to be too dated overall“

The Moster Melt had good flavor for those willing to get their hands a little messy. The Hot Mess Fries is a accurate description of the item, a little bit of a hot mess, good flavor but the gravy is a little to much on the fries, however the cheese curds are the redeeming quality, fresh chunks on the top, gooey chunks in the middle, great flavor mixture and I’m not a brown gravy fan.“
