Especially, mackerel hako sushi was the best of all mackerel that I ate in Canada. Not only the fish, sushi rice was so good! Thanks to these great foods, we could spend the great anniversary! “Lovely gem hidden in Langley. Driven by ICBC so many times and only just found this place. Sushi is authentic, good flavours, gyoza and spring rolls delicious and crispy without any grease. “We recently dined here , our first time and it was an absolute 5-star experience! The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, with a golden panko coating that was pure perfection. We ordered the hira pork katsu, kimchi katsu that came sizzling to the table and the cheese katsu. The accompanying tonkatsu sauce had just the right balance of tangy and sweet, elevating every bite. The atmosphere was cozy yet modern, Jenny was attentive who made us feel so welcome. The side dishes, especially the miso soup, pickled veggies, and salad were all fresh and flavorful, rounding out the meal beautifully. Portions were generous, and the presentation was impeccable. “This is a quality sushi place. The sushi was B+, but the price was an excellent deal. The Bento Box was a fairly big - didn't finish the Tempura. Cali roll was very good. This place is 5 stars because the dishes were huge (also had the wild salmon teriyaki), and the service/bathrooms/seating were immaculate. We will go back. Next time I'll stick to the sushi & maybe a salad. For some reason, Sushi places in BC are so much better/cheaper than US. Go eat at Momo Taro if you're hungry or on a budget.“

The portions were great and price was affordable and for me great for the portion and taste they served. I am so thankful that Sakuya is walkable in this neighbourhood. My sushi oasis by far and by foot. If I don't want Western culture food in this 'hood, I have little options without a car and 20 minutes.

A Korean owned Japanese restaurant means you're in good hands. Good price point and quality is what their honour demands. They recognize you and your regular order with a smile that's happily. Like a place where everybody knows your name but instead it's sushi for your family.

Both Vancouver's and Toronto's Japanese restaurants vary greatly in quality. I find there's a correlational relationship with target sales quantity.
A place where they serve sashimi (meaning the best part of the fish) means an elevated place. A place without sashimi, speaks volumes to anyone's face.

Here, they have sashimi and tasty specialty rolls ... as well as Chicken Teriyaki on a hot platter (all chicken teriyaki's should be served on a pre-heated platter by default but that's my hot take on that discussion). One cool bonus that keeps popping up in Korean-owned Japanese venues is the willingness to innovate on tradition.

“I usually like this Japanese restaurant, I have introduced this to my friends, students, family and friends. I tried their sashimi salad and boy am I disappointed. I ask the server if it’s a Japanese recipe or Korean recipe, it tasted and smelled like kimchi. I like kimchi but I’m in a Japanese restaurant so I am expecting a Japanese cuisine. The sashimi salad doesn’t taste good at all it even has a bitter taste on it. When I mentioned it to the server she didn’t say anything, I felt ignored. In spite of that I will still eat there ( but will never try again their sashimi salad, not recommended needs to change their dressing) because I love their chicken teriyaki and their deluxe tempura. I also find them not that expensive.“

The portions are great. I always order nigiri here because of the size, quality and price. Every other sushi restaurant in Langley charges way more for just a single piece of nigiri. Even for sushi combos, everyone else tends to raise prices and minimize the portions, but not this restaurant. I hope Maru will continue to stay consistent like this.
