“The food and drink was absolutely delicious when I went with my friend and partner. We ordered mango sticky rice, cauliflower wings and lychee/peach iced tea. On a hot summer day, it hit the spot so good. We also ordered some noodle dishes whuch were delicuous to devour on the go, though they were soupier than we thought. Our waitress was very kind, welcoming and accomodating, though also loud and people pleasing, which can come across as a bit much for some. Our group was fine with it though. “When it comes to comfort food Kim Son became an instant classic the moment I took a bite. I ate with a big group and everyone’s food and drinks were so well done and delicious. The menu is small yet curated so whatever you decide will sure quench your thirst for authentic viet food. Don’t let the location of it being in a food court fool you, the food is definitely restaurant quality.

When it comes to authentic viet food who does it better than a mom and pop shop selling food they have been refining for years. This is for sure a recommendation I would give to anyone looking for a hearty meal that leaves you satisfied :)

“Pho Khanh Express absolutely delivered. The first thing that stood out was the broth—one of the cleanest, most flavorful broths I’ve had in a long time. It was crystal clear, rich without being heavy, and tasted like it had been simmering with care for hours. Every sip was comforting.

The lemongrass pork skewers instantly reminded me of home. They had that familiar Cambodian-style flavor—fragrant, slightly sweet, perfectly charred, and incredibly nostalgic. It brought back memories of family gatherings and backyard grilling.

The fresh spring rolls were crisp and refreshing, the peanut sauce was creamy with just the right amount of peanut crunch, and the herb plate was vibrant and fresh. Add a spoonful of their chili paste to the pho, and the whole bowl comes alive without overpowering that beautiful broth.

This is the kind of place that lets simple, well-executed cooking speak for itself. Fresh ingredients, comforting flavors, and a broth that deserves the spotlight.

“This place is nostalgic for me, and you've gotta love the name. Came here one afternoon with my husband and we loved our experience so much, we brought the kids for dinner! Staff are super friendly and kind. Food is fresh, and portion sizes are very generous. Prices are reasonable considering the increasing cost of food these days. The hubby usually always drowns his soup in hoisin and hot sauce but did not do that in his pho because the soup is so flavourful, and you can taste the hours of simmering! Although it was very close to closing time (sorry, we didn’t realize it was that late) and we were the last table, the servers insisted that we take our time and enjoy our meal. I love their bun bo hue. It's the best bun bo hue I've had in Vancouver. The broth is full of finely chopped herbs and spices floating on top that I don't see in most other Vietnamese restaurants. Their pho with lemongrass grilled chicken is delicious as well. Their grilled beef skewer is amazing and I love that you can order a single skewer as a side instead of a full dish. Lastly, this is kind of a silly thing to say but they make beautiful and perfect sunny side up eggs.“

The Bo kho was okay. I was expecting something more savory or having more tomato flavor or spices. The rice noodles were a bit overcooked as well. I like the thick consistency of the stew though.

“Our server was a nice gentleman who was running everything front of house. I did read there was a long wait so I was prepared but our food came out fairly quickly! I came for the banh canh cua and it did not disappoint. The noodles had a perfect bounce and the broth was slightly sweet but flavourful. Real crab pieces, sliced pork pieces, pork blood and fish cakes. I wasn't too fond of the fish cakes but overall it was a very good bowl of noodles. They also had a side of pickled veggies that were good. The restaurant was clean but it could use an update in the interior. It was dark and depressing inside...“

“On an adventure eating my way through the Vietnamese spots in the Lower Mainland:

I actually forgot to review Hanoi Corner when I first came two years ago. I did find and upload some of the pics from that first visit, it also helped to jog my memory. First time around was so-so. The Banh mi was tasty but some of the cilantro were dead-ish. It was also one of the early cafes offering some different versions of Vietnamese coffee like egg, salted etc. which are more common in most shops now.

This second visit was much better, even though prices have gone up a bit. But what hasn’t gone up in price these past couple years. Seems like the average price for a Banh mi around the city is 10 bucks a pop. I had the meatball Banh mi. It’s made from pork and cooked in a tomato based sauce. I quite enjoyed this version as the meat had a good texture to it (some other places the meat balls were too crumbly). Veggies were fresh this time and jalepenos had some kick to them!

They have more than just banh mi, they have noodles, chicken wings, spring rolls and the drink menu is quite extensive.“

Since I moved out of the neighbourhood, it’s been about a month since I have been back. There are places you want to be a regular at, this is it.

“I can’t recall how many times we’ve been here. We’d always take visiting guests over. It’s been a while since we’ve been here (a year or so ago maybe).
Thought we won’t have to wait by getting there earlier at an odd hour (got waitlisted at 5:13pm). But my husband and I didn’t have to wait for so long. Our table was ready by 5:41pm. Those who came after us were informed waiting could take about an hour or so.
Regardless, just like we were informed by those waiting outside on the very first time we went there, I must say — it’s really worth the wait!
I have saved our favourites on my notes with item #s for easy browsing but the menu has changed. It has become easier to browse and our favourites still there.
