“The food and drink was absolutely delicious when I went with my friend and partner. We ordered mango sticky rice, cauliflower wings and lychee/peach iced tea. On a hot summer day, it hit the spot so good. We also ordered some noodle dishes whuch were delicuous to devour on the go, though they were soupier than we thought. Our waitress was very kind, welcoming and accomodating, though also loud and people pleasing, which can come across as a bit much for some. Our group was fine with it though. We went in for a quick bite and got exactly what we needed. The atmosphere was beautiful and homey, separating us in a calmer bubble from the busy Vancouver streets.“

“From the outside it might be difficult to locate the restaurant as there is no large restaurant sign name. However once inside you notice a very clean, bright and vibrant atmosphere. Very friendly staff that explain the colorful menu and offered suggestions. We had spring rolls, papaya salad and chicken pho. The vegetables were so fresh and crisp. The spring rolls had a very light wrapping and were filled with fresh veggies. The papaya salad was fresh with citrus twist and just the right amount of sweetness. Chicken pho was not salty and chicken meatballs were a treat. There appear to be lots of choices on this street but this one is a standout. Keep up the good work!!“

“Came to van 168 coffee for dinner. I had the best pho here. Kim and Linda were so friendly and fast. I ordered pho and it came fast and was nice and hot and so delicious. I highly recommend this place and will be back! The decor is nice and the place is clean.“

“Absolutely one of the best pho places in Vancouver. Choosing between the satay and the regular pho is one of the hardest decisions you’ll make because they’re both too good to pass up. I’m a regular, with high expectations, and have never been disappointed.“

“When it comes to comfort food Kim Son became an instant classic the moment I took a bite. I ate with a big group and everyone’s food and drinks were so well done and delicious. The menu is small yet curated so whatever you decide will sure quench your thirst for authentic viet food. Don’t let the location of it being in a food court fool you, the food is definitely restaurant quality.

When it comes to authentic viet food who does it better than a mom and pop shop selling food they have been refining for years. This is for sure a recommendation I would give to anyone looking for a hearty meal that leaves you satisfied :)

“I came here for the second time with my boyfriend, who is Vietnamese, so I knew I was getting a more honest opinion than usual. I personally don’t always connect easily with Asian food because the flavours are sometimes very different from what I’m used to, but this place honestly surprised me in a good way.

We ordered grilled meat dishes with rice, salad, dipping sauce, and soup on the side. The food looked simple at first, but the flavour was really satisfying. The grilled chicken was juicy, well seasoned, and had a nice smoky char without being too dry or heavy. The rice was fresh, the vegetables made the plate feel lighter, and the sauce added a sweet and savoury balance that worked really well with the meat.

What I liked most was that the food felt homemade and comforting, not overly complicated.“

“We often come here with the kids and grandma. We always sit at table 15. The service is great, the staff are so friendly to us and the kids. They always accomodate our needs and come by often to check on how you're doing.

“This place is nostalgic for me, and you've gotta love the name. Came here one afternoon with my husband and we loved our experience so much, we brought the kids for dinner! Staff are super friendly and kind. Food is fresh, and portion sizes are very generous. Prices are reasonable considering the increasing cost of food these days. The hubby usually always drowns his soup in hoisin and hot sauce but did not do that in his pho because the soup is so flavourful, and you can taste the hours of simmering! Great family run spot in East Van!“

“Love the box on their tables! The 2 servers on Monday night were very sweet and kind. They let us know that the food was hot and tried their best to accommodate our requests. Although it was very close to closing time (sorry, we didn’t realize it was that late) and we were the last table, the servers insisted that we take our time and enjoy our meal. I love their bun bo hue. It's the best bun bo hue I've had in Vancouver. The broth is full of finely chopped herbs and spices floating on top that I don't see in most other Vietnamese restaurants. Their pho with lemongrass grilled chicken is delicious as well. Their grilled beef skewer is amazing and I love that you can order a single skewer as a side instead of a full dish. Lastly, this is kind of a silly thing to say but they make beautiful and perfect sunny side up eggs.“

“Our server was a nice gentleman who was running everything front of house. I did read there was a long wait so I was prepared but our food came out fairly quickly! I came for the banh canh cua and it did not disappoint. The noodles had a perfect bounce and the broth was slightly sweet but flavourful. Real crab pieces, sliced pork pieces, pork blood and fish cakes. I wasn't too fond of the fish cakes but overall it was a very good bowl of noodles. They also had a side of pickled veggies that were good. The restaurant was clean but it could use an update in the interior. It was dark and depressing inside...“

The Bo kho was okay. I was expecting something more savory or having more tomato flavor or spices. The rice noodles were a bit overcooked as well. I like the thick consistency of the stew though.

“Loooove their matcha latte and coconut matcha. It’s still hard to find a good matcha latte in Vancouver, so I’m really impressed that they use ceremonial-grade matcha at such an affordable price. The only downside is that they don’t offer decaf coffee beans, so I can’t really try a variety of their coffee menu items in the afternoon. Anyway, thank you so much for the great quality drinks 🙏“

Since I moved out of the neighbourhood, it’s been about a month since I have been back. There are places you want to be a regular at, this is it.

Mini Pho all day and a sweet treat“

Thought we won’t have to wait by getting there earlier at an odd hour (got waitlisted at 5:13pm). But my husband and I didn’t have to wait for so long. Our table was ready by 5:41pm. Those who came after us were informed waiting could take about an hour or so.
Regardless, just like we were informed by those waiting outside on the very first time we went there, I must say — it’s really worth the wait!
I have saved our favourites on my notes with item #s for easy browsing but the menu has changed. It has become easier to browse and our favourites still there.
