“My husband and I visited Saiko for the first time tonight and it’s our new favourite sushi place. We sat at the sushi bar and learned so much about sushi from the chef/owner! The nigiri we had was incredibly fresh, and likely the fish was still swimming yesterday, according to the chef. Their fish is regularly flown fresh from Japan during the week. We really enjoyed the big eye/ striped jack, renko dai/ big eye, and kanpachi/ amberjack nigiris, unagi don, and salad with real crab meat. Thank you for the wonderful evening Saiko sushi!!“

She ordered her usual tuna, I tried the bourbon brisquet, and we left with a steak & bacon. The subs were fresh, delicious and carefully made. Overall, a very pleasant dining experience! I get the same one every time because after this many years and after probably eating like 200 pitas since high school, I have it dialed in and need never stray from the formula. Naman absolutely made my day! He was incredibly friendly, professional, and quick all while making one of the best subs I’ve had in a long time. It’s rare to find this level of customer service these days Naman truly stands out.

“I’ve been to just about every Subway in the Lower Mainland. That’s how much I genuinely love Subway. And I can confidently say this is the best location in all of Vancouver.

What makes it special? It’s not just the location, even though I work a minute away. It’s not just the ingredients, since most Subways are pretty consistent. It’s the people.

The staff here work harder than almost anyone I know, and I have friends in some pretty labour-intensive jobs. If Subway had an Olympic sandwich-making team, Aman from this location would be the captain, bringing home gold for Canada.

And here’s where it gets even better. I walk in and I’m greeted with the warmest smile, like I’m a regular at a neighbourhood café instead of a sandwich chain. Most of the time, they already know what I’m about to order.

For the record, it’s a 6” Black Forest ham on Italian herbs and cheese, loaded in a very specific way: lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, green peppers, red onions, pickles, a generous amount of black olives, jalapeños, banana peppers, then finished with mustard, mayo, and some salt and pepper. Yes, it’s a serious sandwich. And somehow, they nail it every single time.

Every sandwich is built with intention. And yes, the order matters. This isn’t random sandwich assembly. This is strategy. This is craftsmanship. This is basically sandwich architecture.

I don’t usually write reviews, but not saying anything about this place feels like a crime. Possibly a federal one.

If you’re anywhere near Yaletown, or honestly anywhere in downtown Vancouver, and you want a sandwich done properly, you have to stop by.
