50 Best Seafood Restaurants near Belmont

“It is rare that I would give a 5-star review to a restaurant that scores 4 on the food. However, I'm giving VK an exception. Yes, restaurants are about the food, but also the overall experience and the value.

VK has recently emerged in San Mateo and we visited for breakfast. This is not your high-end fancy breakfast place. This is a down-to-earth every day local eatery type of vibe. Of course not commercial as IHOP or Denny's and definitely a step above. It also isn't an Instagram shot type of a place. It truly exists to serve hearty food. And that's what it does.

The atmosphere again is a standard eatery. Sort of a diner, sort of a vanilla look & feel. I had the Steak Omelet and instant I could feel that this wasn't your commercial grade quality. The chef had used great ingredients and cooked it with care. Seasoned well, it was tasty. The side veggies also were done right. The pancakes were not top grade but could absolutely stand its own. The only reason why I retracted a star away was because it just missed border of being "special". Great food. Great taste. Just a bit too vanilla. Oh, and one of my pancakes still had a bit of runny batter in the middle, but that's okay.

Service was great. Coffee was bold and good, considering they brew these in pots.

All of the above, at a price point that is surprisingly equal or just slightly above IHOP.

VK's is absolutely a solid addition to the neighborhood. It isn't a place you come for. It is a place you go because you can rely on it. It is a working class, every day type of spot. And they are not shy about it. Will absolutely return.

Where you can find quality handcrafted food. I loved everything I’d ordered. From dim sum, milk tea, white sauce, marinated pork ribs and chicken feet, baked egg custard, to specialty traditional Hong Konger soup of the day!
I cannot express enough how grateful I am to have experience this taste again, I left HK back in 2006. This place tasted like home, my childhood, I wonder if they are from Kwun Tong too!

“First time visit. This place used to be China village restaurant. It serves dimsum and hongkong style dishes. It has live seafood. I heard the chef is from Pallette tea and garden. When we arrived it was not busy but later in the night the restaurant is almost full. Overall, the food is yummy. The beef is a bit salty. Service wise, they might need to do better as if you go to another sizable hongkong seafood restaurant , someone will greet you and serve right a way. We will try the dimsum next time.“

“Our take-out fish and chips were disappointing. Chips were undercooked and not crisp. The fish under the brown hard crust was OK but the whole presentation was unlike any light crispy dish our family has ever had as fish and chips. Not a repeat meal for us.“

“What a find! On our way to international SFO flight, stopped in San Mateo and were delighted by the food, ambience and especially the hosts at La Ronda. The small touches like the crisp tablecloths and napkins, the warm welcome ... and then there's the food. Warm bread served with tasty butter and jalapeno sauce followed by the calamari and lomo saltado. Topped off by arroz con leche. What a beautiful late lunch. Thank you La Ronda for a fun food experience. We will make it a point to return.“

“We had an absolutely lovely experience here! Came for my boyfriend’s birthday, everyone was friendly and attentive. Fantastic high end ambience. The food was almost too beautiful to eat and every one of us thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. One of our guests said it was the best spaghetti he had ever had! The mushroom risotto was perfection. I had the Chilean sea bass and WOW! The salmon was also amazing. The other two guests had roasted chicken and hangar steak… I didn’t get to try them but they looked amazing and everyone cleaned their plate even though we were full lol! We will absolutely be back. “The best sushi place in SF…I am a sushi lover. The fish there are so fresh and the Uni are premium. From the sashimi to the Kobe beef, everything is top. Their pricing is also very reasonable. Eric and Phoebe are very nice and provide excellent service.“

“Walked in not expecting much but was greeted lovingly by a sweet family running shop by themselves. They seemed delighted that we were eating In and the small homey setting really felt like they inviting us to sit at their table. The spam masubi was incredible, served fresh, with a sweet sauce, and a little touch of pork sung in there made all the difference. I got the wagyu beef with egg meal. It also came with that signature sauce and the meat was perfectly seasoned and tender. As we left, packing up the leftovers off the heaping plates of food, the father ran out to give us some extra sauce and make sure we didn’t leave without knowing how much we were appreciated. The incredible food and the family’s hospitality truly made it feel like I was eating a home cooked meal with my grandparents and I would love to come back and support them more!“

“In The Bay, regardless of what type of cuisine, we have SO MANY options! I've probably patronized over 25 pupusarias in the last 10 years, but this joint is hands-down the absolute BEST! The pork and cheese pupusas were absolutely PERFECT! Fresh ingredients, cooked evenly where the filling was moist with bustling flavors and the outside was nice and crispy. Also ordered the enchiladas verde which, too, was spot-on.

All the side dishes that come with it were tasty with my favorite being the garlic noodles. Mango and Coconut ice cream at the end was the perfect touch. “A no-frills place for authentic comfort Chinese (and a few other non-Chinese but still Asian) dishes that is very convenient for those arriving late at SFO airport (they open past midnight). Walking distance to a few hotels or to a bus stop along El Camino Real, which passes several hotels in the area. I ordered the beef rib pho and fried oysters. I was satisfied with my meal and the beef rib was tender and flavorful. If ever I arrive in SF late at night on another trip, I won't hesitate to eat at this restaurant again.“

“I ate there last week for the first time in several years. The menu is large and many different styles of food. I had the Prime Rib and it was EXCELLENT. There was 2 others in my party and they were equally impressed. Another benefit is that there are no parking problems. I will definitely eat there again.“
