“We were craving Japanese food and discovered this restaurant in San Carlos. It's a family-owned business located at the corner, with 1-2 tables outdoors. There were no issues with the service, and you can watch as they prepare and slice the sashimi in front of you. We visited during lunchtime, so they offered a lunch special bento box. We ordered a Sake Don (Salmon) and a Bento Box with pork katsu and spicy tuna rolls. Both came with a bowl of miso soup. The salmon sashimi was fresh, served with about 10 slices over the sushi rice. The pork katsu was deep-fried to perfection, and the salad was fresh. The spicy rolls were okay. Overall, the food quality is excellent, and everything tastes fresh. I enjoyed our selections; however, the portion size is smaller than expected for the price. We found ourselves a bit hungry after the meal.“
“I was truly impressed with my experience here. It is a little hidden gem with a sushi bar and just a couple small tables inside. Ideal for date nights or a special occasion with a loved one. My group of 4 sat at the bar and had a fun time chatting about each thing we ate.For the $145 omakase course, it included two appetizers, a mix of nigiri + handrolls, and a soup to finish. My group also added the uni supplement course and dessert. Everything was superb! Incredible quality and our sushi chef explained each item briefly while serving us.My favorites of the night were the Goma Tofu, Ebodai (butterfish) nigiri, Hokkaido Uni, Wagyu Appetizer with Nasu + Shishito, Kanpachi Toro, and Iwana Nigiri.“
“You could walk by this place a dozen times before seeing it. It’s just a small nondescript storefront with seating for 10 around a sushi chef that puts on a show and excellent meal. We had a nice date night here. The sushi is very unique and I had a number of things I’ve never tasted before (eg monkfish liver). The fish were great and they mixed it up with a few hot/cooked dishes as well, wrapping it up with a sesame pudding for dessert. Overall more filling than many omakase but not too much so.Parking: We managed to park right out front on the street.“
“What should I do in Japanese restaurant while some americans are talking too loud?In a situation where fellow diners are being too loud in a restaurant, it's generally best to handle it with tact and politeness. Here are a few steps you could consider:1. **Self-assessment**: First, check if their volume is indeed excessively loud or if it's a normal conversation level for a public place.[I put the earplug on to protect my hearing.]2. **Move Away**: If possible, ask the restaurant staff if you can move to a quieter table.[This is a small place.]3. **Communicate with the Staff**: If moving isn't an option, you might consider speaking to the restaurant staff or management. They are usually trained to handle such situations diplomatically.[Staff is busy and understaffed even for bringing dishes to the side of our desk.]4. **Direct but Polite Approach**: If you feel comfortable, you could approach the individuals directly. Do so politely and calmly, expressing that their conversation volume is a bit high and is disturbing your dining experience.[Some of them speaks Chinese but they just pretend to ignore our complaints. ]Remember, every situation is different and requires a judgement call. It's important to stay respectful and considerate in your approach.[I am wondering what else I can do to deal with this situation?]“
“The amazing thing was the super fresh, raw tuna. I haven't eaten something so delicious in a long time. Also very child-friendly, service was unnaturally attentive, a bit annoying. The plates would be snatched away from us immediately after the last bite... and given back immediately after a sip of water... This made us a little uneasy.“
“Really cool hideaway type location! I am vegetarian and I ordered the wrong type of veggie sushi. It was too seafood tasting to me but they noticed and helped me get a avocado and cucumber roll without seaweed which was delicious. They have soda, beer, tea, apple juice. Yummy! ?Vegetarian options: Just order without seaweed if you do not like a fish or seafood taste. Also no seaweed salad :)“
“Been coming to Higuma since the original owner and the place has certainly gotten better with the new owner. Food and the decor are much better now, but as a result the place is even busier than before. Totally worth the visit, just once or many more times.“
“Definitely the best sushi restaurant I have ever had in South Bay. The restaurant space is very ambient and cozy. The seats are separated into two parts: the bar and tables. Tables are for more people. I went alone so I sat at the bar. One of the advantages of sitting at the bar is that you can watch the chefs closely. The ingredients they use are at the top most level. You can have wagyu, uni, caviar, and various fish. Each dish is designed carefully with a balanced flavor, especially the sushi. The chef would remind you which shouldn't dip the soy sauce. In general, there's nothing I can complain about. The service is also at the top level. The set of dishes definitely reflects the price you pay. I wish I were richer so I could come here more often.“
“Excellent sushi with many offerings not found elsewhere such as Hokkaido sea urchin and scallops. The delicious baby squid nigiri has the cutest pair of tiny squids about the size of a pinky finger. Pictured next to a pair of disposable chopsticks for scale. No “
“This is a great sushi spot to stop by if you're in the mood for fresh fish whether it's in the form of sashimi or hand rolls or sushi. We frequent this sushi restaurant for the great service and food. Even when the restaurant gets busy, the staff still tries their hardest to attend to each table in a timely manner. We highly appreciate it!“
“Love this place. Have been a loyal customer for many years. Unfortunately after COVID many places went up in prices and down in quality, luckily it’s not the case for this place! The food is fresh and tastes good, and the people are so nice, they truly care about their customers.“
“Such creative and cute sushi :)The atmosphere of the place is relaxed and funSmall detail but big bonus: our server was observant and waited for our convo to finish before placing the plates between us.Didn’t come by much but they came in time with a check-up/check as we’re ready/finished & ready to pay/leave. I enjoyed their service :)“
“Surprisingly fresh and cheap ish sushi. Downsides are that there isn't a TON of variety but they've got the basics covered, albeit with service that's a bit slow. $6.5 salmon avocado roll $7.5 unagi avocado roll $14 spicy tuna with salmon roll Service was friendly. Would come back!“
“This sushi restaurant is the BEST! The food is so good and the service is perfect. Me and my family order takeaway every week and it never disappoints. I highly recommend Bay Sushi for all the sushi lovers (they have MANY options for those who don't eat sushi) on Thursdays and Friday the place is pretty packed but somehow they always have one table left, and if not you wait for only 5-10 minutes, but its 100% worth it!! We love this restaurant and hope you will too!“
“this has become my family's go to sushi spot. service is really friendly, we're so regular now they pretty much know our order without asking. the sushi's fresh and delicious, and it's just a simple experience for when you need to scratch the sushi itch.Vegetarian options: there's a few things, but I wouldn't expect anything specialParking: it's in a medium size strip mall so there's usually plenty of spotsKid-friendliness: nothing overtly kid friendly, but also nothing kid prohibitiveWheelchair accessibility: plenty of tables with free standing chairs that could be moved to accommodate a wheelchair“
“Got the omakase nigiri they were out of premium on a Sunday at 7pm. Ordered Otoro separately because not included in omakase, it was by far the best. Fish was good and fresh but rating a star down because the rice is not right, it’s too hard. This is a common theme in other reviews as well. They should really try to figure out the rice and make it better in order to be excellent vs just good. Price is pretty good but I am comparing to Sugarfish in LA where the rice is perfect bad piece is excellent for quality“
“This place is great! I’ve been coming here for a really long time (over 18 years). Food is great! My favorite is the Spicy Ramen on a cold day. The broth is so flavorful. But to be completely honest- EVERYTHING is great. Teriyaki dishes are so good. The rolls are fresh and super tasty and well rolled (these never fall apart!). The owner and his wife (John and sunny) are so friendly. Have a glass of plum wine, a beer or soju and enjoy some great food!“
“Love Sushi House and have been going there since before I moved to the South Bay. Always great, fresh food, friendly service and usually easy to get a table. My only suggestion is, the place needs a coat of paint and some art on the walls to cheer it up. It looks pretty dismal, unfortunately, therefore the 3 stars for "atmosphere".“
“Delicious, however I do have a few minor complaints, I don't think there was any of the nigiris, the rice was a bit cold and the fish wasn't really cut very evenly, all of that said it's gonna be hard to find a better place anywhere close to this place probably.“
“Sushiko is deserves nothing less than a five-star review. The ambiance was a harmonious blend of contemporary design and traditional Japanese aesthetics, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. The menu offered a selection of sushi and sashimi. I couldn't resist starting with the Ikura Nigiri, a delightful burst of briny flavors that danced on my taste buds. The delicate pearls of salmon roe were perfectly complemented by the tender, slightly sweet rice. The Tuna and Salmon Sashimi were impeccably fresh, with a melt-in-your-mouth quality that's the hallmark of exceptional sashimi. The vibrant colors and clean, pure flavors of the sashimi left me in awe of the chef's dedication to quality and precision.Sushiko is the place to be. I can't wait to return for another exceptional meal and explore more of their delectable offerings.Kid-friendliness: They have kids menu“
“My favorite place to have Toro fish! Not sure if it's the best in the Bay, gotta try in other places still to find out and compare but for sure they always have amazing service and spectacular quality!!There was absolutely no bad weather or bad time, even if there is a big line... You should wait for your turn there! Cheesecake is small, but is so delicious and is Matcha flavor.Help this small business, food is good and the fish is fresh!!“
“The service here is unparalleled- the owner, who's also the one taking the orders most of the time, is so incredibly friendly and a real joy to talk to. I've been here so many times and talking with her is consistently a highlight of my day. The food here is also delicious - there are a lot of options, including the chicken teriyaki and various sushi selections. Nothing I've had so far has been a miss. The indoor seating is a bit smaller so I generally get food to go, but the option is certainly available for those who are interested“
“We were in search of Christmas light displays in this area and got hungry! Found this place bookmarked, so we took a chance! Stepping in, it's lively and festive! I believe if you sit outside, there's live entertainment as well. We opted to sit inside since the weather was quite chilly! They ONLY accept cash! There's an ATM on the right side of the restaurant in case you don't have any, it's conveniently available. However, if you want to avoid a $6 fee, bring cash! ($3 fee from the ATM and $3 out of network fee). The hostess was friendly and accommodating. Chips and salsa are complimentary. Perfect for munching on when you're starving and waiting for your food! My bf had a margarita. I had a sip to taste and it had a good amount of alcohol, yet smooth enough to be enjoyable. There's a QR code at the table to see the menu. Make sure to change the language to English! Unless you're fluent in Spanish. The waitress will come back to take your order when you're ready. We ordered fish tacos (3 to an order), beef fajitas, and a spicy tuna roll. FISH TACOS - Ok, I'm still imagining the fish tacos and salivating! I gotta say, it was one of the BEST tacos I've ever had! The fish was lightly battered and fried. Didn't sound like a crunch, but a delicate crisp! Wow, it was amazingly GOOD!!! Flavors were great too! 5/5BEEF FAJITAS - this came out sizzling! Though the beef wasn't as tender as we would have liked. But they give you house made tortillas! 3.5/5SPICY TUNA ROLL - Ok, we know this isn't a Japanese restaurant, but we were curious about their take on sushi. It was ok. A bit saucy and the rice didn't have the right texture. Maybe a bit mushier or something. It didn't taste authentic. But they sure give you a lot! 12 pcs vs 6 or 8 pcs. 3.5/5We had a lot of food and probably could have left out the sushi, but we managed to eat most of it! We'll come back to try other things on the menu as it was an extensive list! Can't wait to try different tacos too! Too bad they're a bit far from where we live, so they can't be on our usual rotation, but we'll think of them whenever we're in the neighborhood!“
“Had an excellent experience at Fuki Sushi. Highly recommend the Fuki Mori for a good variety of creative nigiri. The fish was very fresh and well prepared. Prices are in between that of a high-end omakase and a casual sushi like MJ down the street — fancy but still affordable. Music was a little quiet, which I usually don’t mind, but it was a little too easy to hear other tables’ conversation, but nothing egregious. Perfect for a date night!“
“You can easily book a table online or just give the restaurant a call. Our group of four made a seamless entrance on time thanks to the reservation. They've got a diverse menu with nearly everything covered. The'Unagi Omelette 鰻魚玉子燒,' 'Yamaimo Sengiri 山藥紫蘇', and the 'Mentaiko Pasta 明太子麵' are my favorite. The beef tongue and clam soup were also delicious. If you're into Japanese food with a local casual dining feel, this place comes highly recommended! Plus, they have private booths for a more intimate family or friend gathering.“
“Limited menu of quality but not exceptional items. The sushi is quite nice. The tempura was good the first two times we went, but was a bit greasy the last time.Vegetarian options: Few optionsParking: There is always parking but it can be pretty far away.Kid-friendliness: Good for kids. Nothing breakable.“
“Starting out strong, the ambiance is very very cute. This restaurant is tucked away but it has its own parking. We weren't really sure about it initially since it only has 3 stars but man were we glad we gave them a chance! We ordered 3 fusion rolls, 1 tempura roll, and 2 special rolls 1 fried and topped with torched salmon covered in crunchies and another fresh roll with hamachi in them. We thought we did pretty good! The 2 fried rolls were amazing, smooth slightly charred salmon complimenting the crunchy tempura. The hamachi roll was very fresh tasting with a hint of lime. So it really balances our the heavy fried rolls. Service was pretty fast and our waitress was very nice. They have a robot waitress that delivers your plates and my friend was super stoked to see it. It is pretty cool! Their silverware is also adorable with cat soy sauce container and a sakura flower sauce bowl. Highly recommend checking them out and help them get their ratings up.l“
“Hidden gem amazing food reasonably priced great service!! I was blown away by the quality of the fish and overall presentation. It's a small restaurant that many locals were dining in and getting takeout from while we were there. I will definitely be going back next time we are in the area!!“
“Very nice restaurant in a convenient spot. The food (ramen) was okay compared to other places, but not bad. It's a good comfy place if you want to just grab a bite from a large menu selection. Service was excellent and everyone was quite welcoming!“
“Seiya is our go-to restaurant for high-quality Japanese food. My husband loves tuna tacos, and we always share a house salad and beef tataki, which is delicious. We also enjoyed a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. Everything was fantastic! The service is fantastic; we'll be back very soon!“
“The Beef Rib Udon at Hanabi Sushi is a must-try! The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and the beef ribs are incredibly tender. The portions are generous and the service is always friendly. This has become my go-to spot for a satisfying and delicious meal!“
“Chef Katsu and his staff were absolutely amazing - everything from decor, service, presentation, attention to detail, and the quality of the food and sake superb! Every single bite was delicious, he took us on an amazing journey and experience w his flavor profiles of food/drink choices. Everything was super fresh and clean tasting, and wasn't too full and didn't leave hungry, perfect amount! The intimate seating arrangement, the tasteful yet simple decor and the extremely clean bathroom topped off the wonderful omakase experience!“
“We enjoyed the sushi here, especially the mango jalapeno roll, although it fell apart so maybe could have been more tightly rolled. This was our favorite of the night and we'd order again. The sake nigiri was generously portioned and the oysters tasted fresh and briny. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was good, but a bit awkward to eat because it was so tall. We really enjoyed the bottle of sake we ordered. Nice that they offer you hot tea or water. Ambiance could use some work - lighting was too bright and we think it could be dimmed 40-50% for a more intimate feel. Maybe a bit more decoration - candles or small plants on the tables would also help.“
“Our recent team dinner at Robin in Menlo Park was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped in, the ambiance set the stage for an exceptional evening. With our group size we were provided an omakase menu, and what unfolded was an outstanding, personalized culinary journey that left us all in awe.The omakase experience was truly remarkable, with each dish showcasing the chef's expertise and creativity. From the first bite to the last, we were treated to a symphony of flavors. The sushi and sashimi dishes were, without a doubt, the best we've ever had in the area. “Delicious sushi and tempura udon. Portion is generous, pricing on here is moderate to high in the area. It's around the all you can eat price in the area.Do note that leftovers you should bring your own to go boxes or pay $1 / each.Parking: Shared parking“
“My family loved Ozuma, too, but Owada consistently serves some of the most flavorful sushi anywhere on the SF Peninsula. A little pricy, but absolutely worth it!! Owada’s Chirashi Combo bowl is one of the better dishes I’ve had, with lots of variety in bite-sized pieces.“
“Today was my first time here since I moved a year ago. I've wanted to try this place and finally made it happen. It's a lovely facility, immaculate and the staff is friendly, the prices are right! I tried their Lion King Roll and the Godzilla Roll; they are so delicious and their drinks. I was in a mood for sake bombs and enjoyed it very much; the waiter was very attentive and had good recommendations. I will be a customer from now on. I highly recommend them.“
“I keep coming back to Satomi when craving sea food. My experience has been great and consistent. I’m please with the freshness and quality of fish served here. I appreciate the effort behind preparing these delicacy’s. My experience is inspired by the Thornton Location in Fremont Ca.“
“Rating is primarily for the food as I always take out.PRO:- Good quality sushi- Nice selection of rolls- Bento boxes fillingCON:- Expensive rolls ($15+)- Can get busy, call earlier to cut wait timeSUMMARY:This is my go-to sushi place in Mt. View. It's a bit pricey if you only do rolls or sushi but it's good quality.“
“It's a very popular place in Fremont, love their sushi and their special rolls. The staff are nice and friendly but unfortunately, it's very busy at weekends and ordering food for pickup takes at least an hour since they don't have enough staff for all the orders.I recommend Dragon, Crazy and Tokyo rolls“
“Fabulous dinner with my boss! The food was delicious! Steak Satay and crab mushrooms for appetizers and a few different rolls for dinner. I can't remember the names, but one had tempura shrimp and the other had scallops, crab and unagi. I have been here a few times and will definitely be back.“
“Nice little Japanese izakaya in downtown Sunnyvale, just off of Murphy street. Pretty big selection of Japanese favorites from sushi & sashimi to rice bowls and curry. They also have a nice selection of Japanese sake and beer. They close a bit early, so be sure to come by earlier in the evening.“
“I placed an online order but needed to cancel it right away due to change in plans. The phone number is only a voicemail; there was no way to talk to a human. I left several voicemails; hopefully you got it in time!!Update: got a call from Alan, who canceled my order. Thanks!!“
“I once went here around Christmas time a few years ago and the employees were all so nice. One of the kids eating with us was struggling with her chopsticks so our waitress made a pair of trainer chopsticks for her with rubber bands and the paper chopstick wrapper. Then the sushi chef saw me scraping sauce off my plate (it was that good) so he gave me a little bowl of extra sauce. They were all so attentive and kind, it really made the evening special for us.I have since moved out of state but I come home every Christmas and try to eat here when I get the chance. Great food, excellent service.“
“Friends and I walked in to Octopus Japanese for dinner and were really surprised by the quality! It was pretty empty when we visited so I got to talk to the owner and his son and they explained they'd been hit pretty hard during the pandemic. Reporting back that the food here is DELICIOUS and I'm definitely planning to be a regular (already been back and I appreciate that it doesn't break the bank!)My favorites:- Firecracker (spicy salmon, albacore, and tuna on crispy rice! I could eat this every day)- Kraken (it's a roll but the octopus on top was so unique and delicious! I usually don't even like octopus )- Hamachi Carpaccio (always a fav!)- Korokke (Japanese style croquette!)- Chirashi and Unagi-don (generous amounts of fish and super fresh!)- Nigiris (these were the best indicator of the fish quality and I give them a triple thumbs up!)- the Orange Blossom!I would recommend every one of the dishes we ordered! Even the service was lovely and everyone was super sweet! Five stars from me!“
“A hidden gem in EPA! This place is pumping out awesome food! We came in a group of 7 people and sat down pretty quick. We sat outside in the patio seating and it was very nice a cool breeze came through there and the decor was nice. We looked through the menu and started to make our order. The food was good the vampiro tacos are on point I loved the shrimp ones very good! The sushi rolls they had were also smack! Enjoyed the salmon roll we had. Beer and seafood you can't go wrong with that! This place is a must try spot right next to Pal market on university before you head to the bridge. Thank you to the friendly staff and awesome chefs in back!“
