“Gum Tree Shop & Café is a small café and shop just a short walk from the Strand in Hermosa Beach. It’s been around for a while and feels very much like a local neighborhood spot.

Parking was easy right out front, which made the visit even more convenient. The café has outdoor seating, and you can sit with your coffee and feel the ocean air, with a steady flow of people and dogs passing by.

We ordered at the counter and had coffees, avocado toast with fruit, and a breakfast burrito. The food was fresh and straightforward, and the service was friendly and efficient.

The attached shop is a nice addition, with a thoughtful selection of home goods, cookbooks, and small gifts — an easy place to pick up something for a birthday or housewarming.

It does get a bit chilly in the morning, so bringing a light layer helps. Overall, a reliable Hermosa Beach stop for a casual breakfast or coffee after a walk along the beach.“

“I don’t have a single bad thing to say about Cafe Bonaparte!! My boyfriend and I are spending the weekend in Hermosa for his birthday and we’ve come to this cafe 3 times and we plan to come again before we leave. Everything was so so good. The bacon, egg and cheese croissant literally made my eyes roll back. All of the pastry’s are fire. Everyone who works here is super kind but especially this one girl (kinda tall, body tea, blonde hair w/ low lights??? And black claw clip). I don’t know her name and clearly don’t know her at all but I could just tell she was a girls girl. She was great and her vibes were amazing. Okay love you bye🤍“

“We came on a Wed morning and were overjoyed to find this family owned cafe that has survived 60 years I think the owner shared. The omlets were not only yummy but beautifully displayed with like a half of an avocado on each! There is so much love poured into that room! You can see the generations on the wall. I hope it stays alive another 60 years! Thanks Mike..I think we did see that church you got married in up on the hill on our way into Santa Barabara!“

“Great white is an amazing place. I’ve been there for dinner and lunch. The breakfast burrito is my favorite in all of LA but the dinner experience, the atmosphere is very fun it’s the perfect spot for casual family friendly dinner where the food is amazing The burger was delicious and so are the fish tacos. finally, the banana bread for dessert was so tasty.“

“The sweet and Saby’s burrito was good - like a 7.6/10. It was hot but lacked texture. Need to griddle the outside.

Unfortunately, we ordered in the restaurant at 9:30 and had to wait over an hour for our burritos. It was absolutely chaos inside with DoorDash and uberEats people yelling about their orders every second. They need to dedicate a specific area outside to to-go orders.

“This was absolutely amazing. I stumbled on it one day from work looking for lunch and I was so pleased to find it! The crepes are amazing. So clean and the food was perfect. The icing on the cake was the amazing coffee I came and had the next morning. I reccomend this to anyone looking for a good savory or sweet option day and night.“

“Awaken Cafe is a wonderful little spot in LA with great coffee, delicious drinks, and fresh pastries. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and family-friendly. “This location for goodboybob has been a favorite of my wife and I since we moved to the south bay. Its convenient location adjacent to the public library and a block up from the beach makes it a frequent pit stop or starting point for us. The coffees are always delicious and the pastries are solid. Though the pastries can run a little pricey it is consistent with the surrounding market. I specifically am writing this review to highlight though the excellent service. Today one of the baristas (I believe his name was Saul??) generously and pleasantly explained the different beans when he noticed I was checking some of the bags and he spent the time to explain to be the different beans, the variations in roasting process that differentiate some of them, his favorites, and went as far to provide me a fresh hot sample of some that we were discussing. At the end of it I left with just the latte I came in for(which was exceptional as always), but I also left with greater appreciation for the coffee I was enjoying and a good idea of what I can look for and enjoy in my coffee.“

“So much to say… but ultimately, Colossus in Long Beach is WONDERFUL!! The BEST BLT I’ve ever had. Because they use high quality ingredients! Their Soft-Scrambled Egg Toast is divine. And everything is beautifully fresh. I love their country bread, baguettes, olive cumin bread, dinner rolls… but I have so much more to try Their pastries are scrumptious: Pecan Sticky Bun, Cardamom Bun, Kouign Amann, Financier, Marzipan Croissant, Sea Salt Brownie, OG Chocolate Chip Cookie. It’s all amazing and I’ve brought a number of friends to show off this incredible Belmont Shore Bakery. On Friday nights Colossus serves pizza into the night. Again, high-quality ingredients make their pizzas delicious. Plus they have interesting and unique combinations. They are tip free because their starting wage is $21/hr. Great customer service. Cute little space with some lovely specialty spice mixes, food items, merch, and wine. Indoor and outdoor seating, and they serve tasty coffees and teas. Colossus feels like a little bit of Europe on 2nd Street.“

“Not close to my first time getting coffee here, I've also come for various events, but its my first time leaving a review, because I couldn't not do so for this. Got their email with the new seasonal drinks including this Orange Blossom latte that I just have to try. Ordered it from home on their app as I head out for work yesterday, get there, head straight to the counter, it's not there. All good, I'm only 5 mins away, I see it's already packed in here this early in the AM, so it's just not ready yet. I sit to wait... tick, tick, tick, time goes past, commute out there's getting worse, time to clock in's getting closer, where's my coffee? One of the baristas calls me up to the counter and she's like: What'd you get? I tell her and she says I don't have a ticket for that. I tell her, No I ordered it on the app. I go to look, and Dang, still unpaid in my cart. Line at the counter's long so I reorder on the app right there on the spot, go sit back down. Tick, tick, tick... tick, tick, tick... Girl calls me back up to the counter: I still don't see your order... No, you saw me order it. Pull it up on my app and Fuuu, I ordered it for Hill St in DTLA, this is Slauson. I look up and she says: Don't worry about it, you don't have to drive all the way over there, I gotchu. I dropped $5 bucks in their glass tip jar on my way out. Ain't no way Starbux up the road would've done that. I wish I'd gotten her name, but if you're reading this, you have no idea how much you made my morning yesterday. Thank youuu! And that OBL was so good.“

“I would’ve added a picture of my food, but it was so good. I ate it too quickly. We got the breakfast burrito and the pretzel croissant sandwich. Croissant flaky buttery pretzel so delicious. The breakfast burrito had the perfect amount of eggs incredible. Prices were phenomenal compared to other places I’ve been in the atmosphere was pleasant. You will not be disappointed if you stop here for breakfast.“

“We found this place by accident and decided to try some açaí right away and I’m so glad we did. I have to say. if you’re looking for a real Brazilian superfood açaí experience, you’re going to love this place. It’s one of the best açaí bowls I’ve had outside of Brazil. “A delicious made from scratch falafel in a great sandwich. Friendly staff. Since my first review I have returned and tried their Chicken and Cheese sandwich. Even better then the falafel sandwich! It is a chicken salad sandwich with lots of yummy chicken salad and Swiss cheese. I had their regular French fries 🍟 Very tasty. Again the staff was very friendly and helpful. I love stopping by for the best acai bowls and smoothies while on the pier. They also have wide variety of snacks for grab n go. Service is always lightning fast and friendly.

“We stumbled upon this little café by chance while driving from the airport — and what a hidden gem it turned out to be! I honestly envy the office workers who get to have this place nearby every day.

It's a small café, but everything they serve is top-tier culinary art — the sandwiches, coffee, and salads are absolutely delicious. And the soups… just wow! We tried the pumpkin and broccoli soups — both incredibly tasty and nourishing. My 7-year-old son usually won’t touch broccoli, but he loved their broccoli soup and ate it with great pleasure.

We've only been there a couple of times over the past year, but it’s definitely on our list for every future trip to Los Angeles. Can’t wait to come back!“

“This coffee shop is an absolute gem! I’ve been working with the City since graduating in 2018, when the coffee scene was still in its infancy. I’m so happy that small, independent shops like this are helping to expand and freshen up the scene. This place is my absolute favorite!! It’s incredibly difficult to find a coffee bean that’s citrusy, chocolaty, and well-balanced. And the staff is super friendly and welcoming. “Such a great place to stop for breakfast during our first morning in Santa Monica. My avocado toast was a bit light on the avocado, but the eggs were fantastic quality and cooked perfectly. I ate every bite! Service is a bit slower but the ambiance is great and once you place your order you can take a seat at a table and watch everything happening on the beach.“

“I came here for a facial with Chieko and was blown away. Probably the most relaxing massage I ever had (I even fell asleep!). Chieko was so kind, funny, and genuine. She did a skin analysis first and showed me which products she was going to use and why. There’s no extractions, it’s just about keeping your skin healthy. Theres also a facial massage included. I left feeling like my skin was glowing, plump, and hydrated. I also love the concept - everything is authentically from Japan. The products, the matcha, and it’s a beautiful open space you can relax in before or after your facial. I almost want to keep them as this hidden gem because I know they’ll blow up!!!“
