I Hate Cake—But This One Changed My Mind

I’ve spent years dodging birthday slices, declining dessert menus, and side-eyeing frosting like it owed me money. Not even as a kid did I like cake. Cake and I? Not friends. Everything i got to try was great, but then came this ube and coconut cake and OMG!!!!

It didn’t just taste good—it rewrote my dessert beliefs. Moist without being mushy, sweet without the sugar assault, and layered like a symphony. The texture? A velvet rebellion. The flavor? A sermon in indulgence. I didn’t just eat it—Im forever converted. Thank you!!“

“Was almost lost when trying to find the outlet since it's located in a plaza that might not be visible if you're by the road side. Worry not about parking at the plaza since they apparently validated parking (yep! plus point for sure).

The gorgeously designed outlet only served grab and go since there's no seating on the spot. There were some outdoor benches at the center of the plaza though if you just couldn't wait to enjoy the goodies.

They offered bunch of sweets from Canele, Madeleine, Financier, Cookies, Cheesecake, and more; all of which did come in multiple flavors. So yeah, be prepared to be indecisive in front of the showcase. They were super helpful though in assisting you making your choices by recommending the favorite ones. It was nice that the price was decent enough for LA standard, so you could definitely opt for more than one or a couple.

For my initial visit, I started with the Ube Financier, which was kept in the chiller, maybe due to the cream on top. It came in spongy yet not too airy texture with luscious ube cream topping. It was decent, but not really my top choice. My second was their Earl Grey Milk Chocolate Tigre, which was basically buttery cake kinda similar to financier IMO, with milk chocolate ganache at the center. I definitely loved this more than the financier, especially the combo of earl grey and milk chocolate which to my surprise was awesome and helped balancing the taste to be not overly sweet. Another one I tried was their thick salted chocolate chip cookies, which decadently had crispy edge though I wish being more gooey inside as it's tad dry. Nonetheless, flavor wise I felt like classic chocolate chip with a sprinkle of sea salt indeed never failed. The creme de la creme, however, was certainly their canele which I was beyond thrilled to finally find in LA. I had my favorite one in London which I thought unbeatable, and it's impressive that LA now had something comparable to satisfy the craving without having to fly over 5K miles away. It flawlessly had that crispy coating, moist center, and just the right sweetness level. I surely made the right choice going with matcha as Brown Bag definitely elevated the overall taste with this matcha flavor and that matcha cream top. It was no brainer that their canele is NEVER TO BE MISSED if you ever paid Brown Bag a visit.“

I had been getting instagram recommendations on my feed for a few months (even though I don’t live in CA), and I’m glad I decided to put this place on my list to check out before I left. “recently visited this shaurma spot and honestly, the interior is amazing — super cozy, stylish, and has a whole vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. It definitely feels like more than just a quick food stop.

I tried the chicken shawarma. While the flavor was okay, I wasn’t too happy with the chicken — it wasn’t grilled properly, and the wrap felt a bit unbalanced with too much lavash and not enough ingredients inside.

That being said, I still recommend checking this place out. The experience itself is worth it, and with such a nice atmosphere, I really hope this business grows and stands strong. It’s definitely a spot I want to see succeed, and maybe with a few tweaks to the food, it can become a favorite!“

“Really amazing and very good food. I was a table of one and was able to sit down within 15 minutes compared to usual hour long wait.

I got the HK style french toast, very sweet and more of a dessert but it was amazing nonetheless. Second item i got was the cold sesame noodle (no chicken) and i’ve never had this amazing dish before and it was life changingly good.

Funny story but they threw away my food while i was in the bathroom for two minutes but they apologized and gave me a free meal to go and pastry. I didn’t care that much but happy they fixed an error!

“I have been to the 2 Little Tokyo locations and this one is definitely the winner! there’s a huge variety of pastries and things to eat for a quick bite (you might probably have to eat it standing or elsewhere during the weekends since it gets pretty packed and there’s just 3 tables!) but the steamed buns were good!, the matcha mochi wasn’t too sweet so it was perfect, the almond croissant was fine but their specialty is definitely on other pastries! will definitely come back again to try more stuff.“

While it was the sign that says ‘One of LA’s Top Cookie Destinations’ that brought me in, it was the warm welcoming service and the incredible quality and care that goes into every single item that keeps us coming back. “Shoutout to the Rittenhouse location. We are at Chop with our 4 year old son who just had surgery. I figured after the day we had let’s have some cookies. I placed an order from Levain on door dash. My wife after the long day she had put in the wrong address on the door dash order and the driver called screaming at me and wouldn’t come 1.3 miles to bring them even after explaining the circumstances. Door dash refunded my whole order without me even asking and I called Levain and they went above and beyond. They gave us cookies on the house and even threw in an extra chocolate chip and delivered them to CHOP. Not only are the cookies fabulous the hospitality is second to none. I am a lifelong customer to this location and want to thank everyone at the Rittenhouse location especially Mat who went above and beyond. Thanks again!“

“If this is not the best banh mi in all of Sgv and Oc, I don’t know of any place that can beat them. All cash by the way so come prepared. Their dac biet is the perfect sandwich and their daikon and carrots are light and bouncy with fresh jalapeno with the right amount of pate and butter. They have it down to perfection, nothing less. Had an open house and served it for homebuyers and they were blown away! Highly recommend! Cafe sua da is gold too, loved the shaved ice in the coffee and not too sweet. The ladies in the back are super sweet and you can buy the baguettes and freeze them, then 350 f for 6 mins in toaster or airfryer. Get the egg rolls, and pa te so is good too. My clients loved their vegetarian banh mi too!

This cake was talked about with everyone. We kept saying, "it's not too sweet," which is the best compliment you can say for a cake. Of all the gluten free bakeries nearby, they were THE most affordable for wedding cakes. We collaborated with Natalie who was with us from day one. She is wonderful - so understanding and supportive. Half Baked's execution of our vision onto 3 elegant cakes was lovely and classy. The GF spice with cream cheese was the best - our very favorite! There were some unfortunate issues with the other two cakes, but Natalie assisted us thoughtfully and ultimately provided us with an ample solution. We have loved Half Baked since we discovered them. “09/11/25: The Latina staff member was very friendly and welcoming (same person I met on my last visit!) — her service attitude is excellent. The food here is always very, very delicious, and the little bunny cake was amazing with fresh ingredients.

However, I did feel disappointed with another staff member (Asian) who came across as unfriendly and gave me attitude. Since I am also Asian, I honestly don’t know if I did something wrong, but it made me uncomfortable.

Overall, the quality of the food is outstanding, and I truly enjoy coming here. I just hope the management can strengthen training for individual employees so that the service experience matches the excellent food.“
