“The Peking duck was fabulous and juicy! We got a half, which we were surprised how little it was. We should have had a full. You have to reserve the duck before you get there.
We had a meat roll I think it was. It was amazing! My friends mom doesn’t like spicy so we got this roll. Highly recommend! Lots of veggies and excellent sauce!“

“The staff was very friendly and the food came out super quick! We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, the eggplant tofu, and the cashew chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was perfectly crispy with the right balance of sweet and sour. The eggplant tofu wasn’t soggy, it had a perfect texture and flavor. The cashews in the cashew chicken was addicting. The portions are also a good size. Would come here again!“

“California-style Cantonese cuisine! I really like the decoration style here, which always makes me feel better when dining here. The golden lotus chandelier and the gold and silver wire lamp are definitely the best decoration! 👍The pastries here are also worth mentioning! Pineapple buns, wife cakes, black sesame banana cakes with miso sugar!“

Attentive service and the location is tops intersecting North beach and Chinatown. An easy walk to FiDi, the Embarcadeo and Union Square.“

“This is my first time trying this place. I arrived at 10 and it wasn't that busy yet. I ordered 4 different types or rice rolls, preserved duck egg congee and soy milk to go for $45. I tried one of the rice rolls and the soy mil before leaving. I enjoyed the food so much! I like how they have a small sauce station where you can add different sauces and sesame seeds.
I can eat rice rolls several times a week. Looks like this will be one of our regular spots!“

“Classic Chinatown spot that delivers solid, honest Chinese comfort food. We ordered several dishes — a spicy noodle broth loaded with bean sprouts, scallions and chili oil that had real depth; a wonton noodle soup with generously filled dumplings in a clean broth; a sautéed offal dish with red onion and chili that was bold and well-seasoned; and what appeared to be a hot & sour soup with good body. Everything came out hot and fresh. The menu is trilingual (Chinese/English/Vietnamese) with a wide variety at reasonable prices. Service is efficient in true Chinatown style — don't expect pampering, do expect the real deal. A reliable stop if you want to eat well without fuss in the heart of SF's Chinatown.“

“Stopped in for a mango pomelo sago drink and can confirm it is as delicious as everyone else has said here. They use a good type of mango, and the sago and cream topping were creamy and sweet without being too much. It reminded me of a mango lassi!“

“Every time we plan to go to San Francisco for a trip, my dad gets so excited about having a meal at this place because of some really good Chinese food in San Francisco. This is my dad’s cherry on top place in the city.“

“This place is pretty awesome for lunch. The lunch special is a screaming deal. The entrees seemed to be cooked from scratch, which is pretty awesome. I had a really great lunch here.
It's that very specific sort of Chinese food that doesn't have any pretentiousness and enough American and Chinese influence to satisfy a broad range of palettes.“

“Cash only! Very affordable and incredibly delicious, just a bit over $20 for a bowl of noodles and a meat dish. I ordered their signature beef brisket wonton noodle soup. The brisket pieces were larger than expected and stewed until tender, while the wontons had thin wrappers and firm fillings.
Don't miss their blanched pork kidney and liver!! They are prepared very cleanly with no unpleasant odor, and the sauce is rich and savory. For a solo diner, the portions might feel a bit generous, but that only highlights how good the value is.
It feels like a real community spot with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend for a cheap and authentic eat.“

“I went there to see if I could eat there, but it was a take-out restaurant.
However, I ordered delicious food and enjoyed it when I got home.
I was grateful that the friendly staff told me about nearby parks where I could eat and explained things well.
There is also a parking lot, so park comfortably.“

“My sister and I hosted our fun & fab 4th annual Chinese Rickshaw Extravaganza banquet for 30 guests at the charming Garden Restaurant at 716 Kearney St. in San Francisco’s Chinatown on May 13, 2026 which is across from the Portsmouth Square Parking Garage.
Our private room was decorated with Chinese paintings and handwritten gold Chinese characters for good fortune and double happiness on red banners.
Our menu included appetizer: honey barbecue pork. Soup: egg drop soup. Entrees: Peking roasted duck with buns, double lobster with ginger & scallion, dry fried green beans in black bean sauce, glazed walnut prawns, mixed vegetables, & chicken fried rice. Dessert: sesame balls, orange slices, and fortune cookies.
Multiple guests remarked, “Each year the food seems to get better and better. It’s very delicious and the quality of each dish is excellent.” Everyone nodded in agreement.
Our wonderful restaurant manager , Justin, created a senior-friendly menu which we greatly appreciated and all declared, “We’ll be back next year! Thank you, Garden Restaurant! You rock!!”“

“At 10am on a Saturday morning, this place is PACKED and you actually have to wait. The claypot rice here is excellent…crispy, fragrant and beautifully cooked.
I would recommend getting vegetable soup to help wash things down. We got the pea sprouts (上湯豆苗) and the broth was clean and flavorful without being too salty.
Probably one of the most authentic and affordable Toisan spots in the area. The boss lady speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Taishanese. Cash only and parking is difficult in the area.“

“We were exploring China town and stumbled in on this gem randomly.
Had not only a delicious meal but the service was awesome! That's beside the fact that there were 12 of us (3 different families) that came in all at once and everyone was patient, explained all the dishes and kept checking in on us.
Would MORE than recommend this for lunch and dinner!“

“I LOVED this place! Cheap, affordable, but most importantly delicious good ol’ SF Chinatown dim
sum. I ordered the shrimp dumplings, pork/chive dumplings, pork buns, shu mai, and rice rolls. Got all of this for under $20, and even cheaper since I split it with a friend. I even had more to have for breakfast later in the week. Will absolutely be back!“

“My husband and I came across your Chestnut location this past weekend! What a wonderful find. The VERY nice gentleman that served us, the best dumplings - I highly recommend the Spicy Sichuan Wontons in Red Oil. Looking forward to our next visit!“
“The spicy chicken wasn't as spicy as I would have liked - even with the additional hot sauce they provided - but then again, that might just be my high tolerance. The chicken itself was juicy and scrumptious and the garlic noodles had a great consistency to them. I didn't try the donuts, but the apple fritters were a great size and I definitely want to try one the next time I'm in the area. Employees were friendly and inviting, which is key for me as a return customer. And the prices are wonderful - currently 8 dollars for three items! While the selection isn't as wide as other Chinese joints (especially in Chinatown), it's great if you're craving Chinese food and want some some quick and cheap takeout.“

“The best Chinese take out in the area. Great food, great portions, owner has worked there a long time and always treats her customers well. It is a steam table restaurant, so not a fancy/sit down atmosphere, but the food is consistently delicious and the service is very fast. My personal favorites are the fried rice, sesame chicken, and BBQ pork, however everything I have tried on the menu has been good. I highly recommend them if you are visiting and need a quick bite, and if you are a local who has never been, you are missing out!“

“This place changed my life. Earlier in the day we walked by this restaurant (we had already eaten a full dinner), but the nicest man said he would stay open for us if we wanted to do some shopping before coming back. He was so enthusiastic that we picked up 3 other members from our group and came back just for the owner to convince us to get the “all you can eat” food service for a flat rate charge. Throughout the meal he kept bringing us dishes at a speedy rate. Some of the dishes we didn’t even order just so we could try them (at no additional cost). I don’t know if I have ever had such a great experience at a restaurant in San Francisco. Everyone should come here, even if it’s just for the experience“

“On a holiday retreat, and after so many big and expensive meals over the Christmas and Chanukkah holidays, we were thrilled to discover Ming's tucked away off the Main Street in Tiburon. Though GPS took us there, it was still somewhat hard to find. But we percevered Tiny and no frills, but bright and colorful. A birthday party was going on in the corner. A husband and wife and their little girl enjoying a feast across from us. Lots of people coming and going for takeout. But our server, took our order and delicious hot plates of food begam to appear. Potstickers, Wonton Soup, and Kung Pao Chicken plus a bowl of rice. It was all wonderful and enough to take home for dinner the next day. Likely, the best meal of our three-night stay. It's the simple things that matter most.“

“Came in for lunch and ended up staying way longer than planned because we got chatting and the staff just let us. No clock-watching, no hovering. Food was great, place had a proper cosy feel. Bill was very fair for what we ate. The kind of place that feels like a hug. Going back soon definitely.“

“I came in not really sure what to eat. I wanted fish and they suggested a fish soup with noodles scallions and bok choy. I was offered tea, but declined insisting on water. Empty around 11am, but bit by bit members of the local community strolled in of all ages. My soup was hot. I was offered chili sauce and was permitted to use the restroom. Most people paid cash, but I was allowed to use mobile payment for a small fee. I ate those noodles up. I drank the whole soup. It was honestly very good and healthy. I work in many different locations throughout the bay and was happy to be able to walk in and receive world class service. It may be some time until my next visit, but the experience stood out among the many businesses in this area.“

“Friendly service, reasonable prices, and clean facilities. My family of 5 split the 3 piece egg rolls (which were nicely pre-sliced in half for us), the kung pao chicken, the chili beef chow mein, and the squid with black bean sauce. Everything was delicious, with a wide variety of flavor, and we were stuffed by the end. The egg rolls had a buttery crunch, the best I've tasted. If you aren't planning on leftovers, two could split a single entree, especially if you get one of their delicious appetizers. This is an affordable place to get an excellent, authentic meal!“

“While staying in San Francisco for a medical procedure, my husband and I had a craving for Chinese. A quick Google search and we found our way to Sun Kwong. “My friends first ate at this restaurant in 1985 and we have been going here until 1989 when all moved out in 1989. It was just a hole in the wall back then.
We were in San Francisco today and I decided to order take out food - combination fried rice and general chicken. The food is as good back in the 80s and the big portion hasn’t changed!
Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in city especially for the price!“

“We came in on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty empty. The food was surprisingly good. We didn't get the eel claypot, but the basic dishes like the BBQ Pork Rice Rolls, Fried Dumplings, Sticky Rice, Chicken Feet, and Mongolian Beef Over Rice.
Everything seemed fresh and service was prompt.“
“This place looks a little dingy, seems like it used to be restaurant, but now they just do takeaway. The dimsum is not premium restaurant stuff, but good hearty home style, presentation not so great, but tastes good. You could get a meal for under $10 here, but "splurge" a little and you'll be really full.“

“I've been a loyal customer for decades (used to be CJs back in the day) and love this place dearly. The pink tablecloths, the hot tea, the charming back patio, the well priced lunch plate options, the classic Chinese American dishes, the jelly belly jellybean jar, the fish tank, everything is perfect. The mushu pork, DJ chow mein, mongolian beef, and string beans are some of my favorite dishes.“
