50 Best Bakeries in Long Beach

“The San Pedro location, unfortunately, wasn’t accepting online orders, so I made the trek to the Long Beach location. Thankfully, this location was accepting online orders, sparing me a 6 a.m. pastry pilgrimage. I scheduled a 12:45 p.m. pickup but didn’t arrive until 1:45 p.m., so I won’t fault the pastries if they weren’t piping hot.

Colossus Bakery on 2nd Street sits near some of my favorite Long Beach spots, like Holey Grail Donuts and Win-Dow. I ordered three items: a cardamom bun, kouign amann, and pecan sticky bun, eaten in that order, which also reflects my ranking.

The cardamom bun was delicious: the spice came through without overpowering the pastry. It was denser and doughier than the light, airy pastries I usually favor, but still excellent. The kouign amann was similarly dense, though each bite had a satisfying audible crispness. The pecan sticky bun lived up to its sticky reputation with plenty of nuts, though it ended up my least favorite of the three (but still very good).

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my pastries. I imagine they’d be even better fresh or warmed, and I can’t wait to work through the rest of the menu. Colossus Bakery has officially joined my elite Los Angeles/Long Beach pastry rotation. Highly recommended!“

“I live two blocks away and this bakery has single-handedly destroyed my self-control in the BEST way possible. The brownie bites (pandan, strawberry, ube-Oreo) are life-changing. I buy a box thinking “I’ll save some for later” and then 45 minutes later they’re gone and I’m happier than I’ve ever been.
These brownies are pure joy. Serotonin in dessert form. When they closed for a week after the holidays, I experienced real emotional damage.

I would take a master class, but honestly it’s safer for society if I don’t learn because I would simply become a brownie.

Also the iced vanilla oatmeal cookie? Elite. Legendary. The bomb dot com.

11/10. Five stars. Would happily lose all control again.

“Food here is outstanding! We picked our food to go for an impromptu picnic at the park and enjoyed eveything. The carbonara was a knock out, very rich and decadent. All the pastries were yum, but the morning bun was our favorite. And the sandwiches are so well constructed with bread that was obviously baked fresh.

Only thing ill say is the patio is not good for large parties so if you intend to dine in, the seating there it ideal for parties of 2 or 4.“

“This bakery is right across from a muffler shop where we had some work done. The two pastries I had were excellent-one savory (spinach mushroom) and one sweet (apple goat cheese). Both were still warm from the oven that morning. Very friendly people there!“

“What a special place. We ordered a cinnamon roll cake for my son's 6th birthday and it was absolutely incredible. Ken worked on the cake and he was so kind and helpful. He let me know that they were out of bananas and asked if I wanted to replace them with chocolate chip banana bread. That banana bread was so soft, spongy, and delicious. This is our go-to place for desserts.“

“I absolutely love this bakery! It's one of the few places where my daughter, who has egg and nut allergies, can safely enjoy delicious treats. It means so much to us to have a spot that celebrates our culture and lets my daughter feel included as she enjoys a fresh pastry in the morning. “Susy did an amazing job on my mom’s birthday cake. She was able to create an exact replica of the
reference photo that I gave her. The cake was also so good and moist and everyone at the party loved it. There was a little hiccup on our end where one of the letters got damaged in transport and Susy was able to replace it last minute before the party started. Overall a great experience and I would use her again if I need a cake in Long Beach.“

“A normal corner donut shop. I decided to try it out. Overall satisfied. Service was great. I ordered half a dozen donuts and got an extra for free ?? Giving it 5 stars because it is what you'd expect and the prices were decent~ Would come back for the donuts. Didn't mind my sausage, egg, and croissant sandwich. The blended mocha was yummy too. I do want to try one of their smoothies next time. Total cost for 1/2 dozen donuts, two blended mochas, and a #7 was about $21 if I'm not mistaken. So yeah, hella worth the price.“

“This place is SO good! I got the breakfast burrito and added cheese and avocado. Omg it was so big I had it for two meals. It was just as amazing for the second meal. Everyone that worked there was so nice, it had such a great family feel. A few customers came in while I was eating outside, and it was clear they were regulars - as i would be if I lived closer! Also, I dont eat meat and there were plenty of options!

There aren't any tables inside but there are a few outside with umbrellas if needed.“

They were so good that someone else from work is going back tomorrow to get more.We also had Monggo, Ube, and pimento cheese rolls that were great. “I always come here to get my Bolillo! The bread maker in the back always making the best warm bolillo I had. I'm sure is the best in Long Beach. The cashiers are super friendly. “The blueberry pinwheel was FABULOUS. Strawberry cheese croissant, prefectly flakey. Amazing bakery, giving fresh-baked, homemade, French-countryside vibes. I don’t often review, but when i find such a good small business I have to. Pricing was good too.“

“The donuts were thick and fluffy. I bought 11 dozen donuts, and everybody who tasted them said they were delicious. Some of the better donuts I’ve had. The couple who helped me out were the sweetest, and provided wonderful service, especially at 5:30am with that many donuts. They knew their regulars by name, and it was a very wonderful experience.“
