“Great locals bar to visit. Friendly to randoms on both sides of the bar. Not an extensive liquor selection - ordering a negroni was a no-go. Shockingly excellent burger for being grilled indoors behind the bar. I heard a regular say they get their meat from the butcher shop next door. I'll definitely be back for another burger“

“This seemed like it was going to be a chill bar near the beach. I needed a place to set up my laptop for just an hour or so. Came here close to when the opened. It was a very chill vibe inside and lots of fresh air. The bartender was nice but I think maybe she thought it was weird to be on a laptop. The longer I was there the crazier it got and it ended up not being the vibe I expected and felt like I probably shouldn't be on my laptop. So I left after one drink. It was a really good margarita though. I would drink here but maybe not the bar to do some work at haha. Which is a pretty new concept anyway unless you wfh.“

“This is an interesting place. Upstairs is really cool but it’s “members only”, so we unknowingly went up and then found out we couldn’t order/pay for drinks. That is ok, but what is odd is that some folks in my group were upstairs a few weeks ago and were able to charge a round. Maybe it is more flexible during the week vs weekends?
The downstairs is also very nice and it’s definitely a place for the beautiful people with lots of money. We had two house (Tito’s) martinis and a good glass of wine and it was a heavier tab than I expected. We got what we ordered but I probably should have looked closer at the prices so I would not have been surprised. Hey, it’s Manhattan beach and it’s a cool vibe. Just don’t go in unless you are ok with dropping some coin.

Bodega sando was perfection! Pastries were alright...most looked better than they tasted. I'd say they were good but not great.“

“Brought some friends there to watch playoff football and a ufc fight. Ended up having the best filet mignon of my life. So tender you could slice through it with the side of your fork. Had fresh oysters from Virginia, which I was told are only $2 on Tuesday or Wednesday (have to fact check here). And probably the best thing on the menu is the bacon wrapped plantains, not a lot of food, but every bite is heaven. Wife loved her fancy drinks, but I prefer scotch.“

“We had a very nice dinner here inside on a Tuesday night. I loved the whiskey cocktail which is brought smoking to your table. We shared the cheese plate and gen ceasar and the servings are quite large and perfect for sharing. The BBQ scottish salmon is a real standout and the fries and blistered spinach great sides. They also have a very nice selection of wines by the glass. The staff is very attentive and we enjoyed the night thoroughly.“

I'm not a connoisseur of wines or spirits, but this speakeasy was extremely enjoyable. It is a great way to start or end a meal at Scopa and we enjoyed the experience immensely. The bartender was knowledgable, friendly, and conversational. We were there for almost two hours and it felt like 15 minutes. The ambiance was quiet yet exciting, and listening to the maitre de and bartender tell us about the history of the location, some of the spirits, and just general conversation made this unforgetable.“

“From 9-11:30 most Monday nights, come to this small bar to see the miracle of the Hot Club of Los Angeles, an amazing 5 piece embodiment of Django Reinhart's 1930s jazz spirit. Their second set may start around 10:45 if you'd like a bit more room. No snacks, no food, no nonsense...just as good a band as you'll ever see in a space this small. “What an incredible gem of Los Angeles that Sam First is! The atmosphere is absolutely incredible, comfortable seating, amazing acoustics, and a pervasive but not overwhelming jazz vibe that really sets this place apart from any other bar in LA. Every seat has a great earshot of the stage, and the drinks (of the few that I’ve had off the enormous menu) have really hit the mark. I highly recommend Sam First if you are looking for a date night, just make sure you don’t talk during the set, or bring friends, family, anyone. This is amazing experience and I can’t wait to visit again!“
