“I found this bakery when I was looking for a place to purchase alfajores and I was so happy to have found it! I was greeted as soon as I walked in and my first visit was nothing but a very nice experience. Two young men behind the counter seemed really friendly and helpful. The other customers in the store at the time seemed very happy. I came for alfajores today, but I will definitely go back for more alfajores and other goodies!“

“Was able to try the Mocha Crunch Cake which is hard to find in the Bay Area. I've only been able to find one other place in San Francisco. This cake was very tasty and moist. And of course there was a good crunch to it. I think the only thing about the crunch is that some of the pieces are HUGE but overall...can't complain!“

“We did a side by side taste test today vs the semi-famous Victoria cannoli from north beach in San Francisco. Both are good, but Romolo’s really is far better. All three people who tasted both agreed that it wasn’t super close. Romolo’s have a clear and delightful flavor, a better shell, and a hint of citrus in the filling that makes it even better. You can’t go wrong with either, but you can go right.“

“Yesterday I tried Uncle Tetsu inside Hillsdale Shopping Center for the first time and I really enjoyed it. There were so many flavors to choose from but I only got the coconut pandan Japanese cotton cheesecake and the ube cheese tart. They're selling the mini cheesecake - cheesetart combo for only $10, a pretty good deal!
Cotton cheesecake was super soft and fluffy, and the flavor leans more towards the coconut. I think pandan was only there for the color. Like you can see it but the flavor was really light, not super strong like I expected.
Ube cheese tart was also good but definitely on the sweeter side. Me and my friend shared one because it gets kinda sugary after a few bites (but it's still delicious, I highly recommend). The texture is nice, very creamy and buttery inside with a slightly crunchy crust.
Place was not busy, and staff was nice. I’d probably come back again when I'm craving desserts.“

“A most beautiful Black & White birthday cake, delicious and moist, gorgeously decorated with balloons and written script, and thoughtfully packaged on a sturdy gold foiled tray. “We dropped a hot dog bun and they were very kind. Appreciate it dude. You know who you are 😅 We always get the egg and ham, chasiu bao, red bean bread and yam bread. The egg tarts are pretty good too. They use to be a bit more affordable but it’s a win if you can buy 6 items for under $20 these days.

We’ve been coming here since they opened. Really appreciate having an HK style bakery out here in San Mateo :)“

“I am so happy I found Amusante while browsing bakeries in San Mateo. I got a chiffon cake, yuzu, churro, and sweet potato financiers as well as a chocolate chiffon slice with cream. The chiffon cake was light and spongy. The financiers were buttery and had a slight chewiness. All were not too sweet and very delicious. I had no problems with ordering and pickup. Thank you!“

“This place has been around for a long time! It’s really cool :) it’s not the same as being in the original Chinatown, the San Francisco Chinatown? But wait! I think the Amtrak train system exists because of the chinese train workers and the laborers“

“This place is dangerous… in the best possible way. 😅

The baked goods are absolutely amazing. The challah is incredible fresh, soft, delicious, and seriously hard to stop eating.
They also offer a gluten free challah option, which is such a great bonus.

And then there’s the gluten free brownie… Phenomenal ! ! !
The tahini cookie is also dangerously good, and honestly, I haven’t met a dessert here that I didn’t like.

I’m literally writing this review right now and my mouth is watering, which probably means brownie time is approaching very soon. 😂

One important tip: make sure to order special items ahead by email or phone.
These things disappear FAST, apparently they have a mysterious habit of finding their way directly into people’s stomachs.

Everything tastes fresh, creative, and made with real care and love.
And most importantly it’s all KOSHER !

“Friendly staff. Parking right in front. I usually get a parking spot each time I visit. I love their Atoles ( corn flavor). We usually buy a lot of Champuradas and the long one coated with sugar. Prices are reasonable for all sorts of varieties of sweet bread.“
