“The Baseline: For a seafood fast casual restaurant the fish/seafood needs to be fresh, the presentation of the food should be comforting and respect the delicacy of the seafood, and there must be a selection of accompanying offerings.

Food: The lobster is high quality here and the preparation is excellent. The Lobster Roll sampler is really good to try the different preparations. The full lobster roll is meaty and filling. The chips are nice but wish I had fries. The soda selection is awesome (got a Maine Blueberry soda). The price is what you get when you order the lobster.

Service: Counter order deliver to your table service. Good and efficient.

Ambiance: The restaurant is really well presented and has good decor. The bathroom was clean. The seating was well laid out and the lighting was good in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the outside is Santa Monica 2025 and is sketchy at night (not the restaurant’s fault)“

“I’ve been hearing about this place a lot recently — it’s basically Korean BBQ but with seafood. Came on a weekday with a group of 8, and while it’s usually busy, we grabbed a table in the back patio so we didn’t have to wait too long.

We went with the Captain Set and the Crew Set. Both came with banchan and cold Korean noodles, which were super refreshing alongside all the grilled seafood. Everything is cooked over coals, which gives it a nice smoky flavor that really brings the seafood to life. I even tried hagfish for the first time — definitely unique, but glad I gave it a shot.

Price-wise, it feels a little high for what you get. At the end of the day it’s just seafood, so it didn’t really fill me up the same way a KBBQ set would. But the quality was good, and I liked that the meal finished with a hot noodle soup — comforting and a nice way to end the spread.

Overall, it’s a fun spot to check out with friends if you’re into grilled seafood and want something different from the usual KBBQ routine.“

“L&E is my go-to neighborhood spot. So lucky that I am steps (well, two flights of Silver Lake steps) away. 1. The vegetables!! OMG You might not be expecting it, but the vegetables here are so delicious and they hold their own against the fish. Expect seasonal vegetables and wonderful provisions that will blow your mind.

2. This is one of the very few places where you can get locally caught bluefin sushi here in Los Angeles. Maybe one of about 3 places right now as of this review? They don't have it all the time so call ahead.

3. The berry kakigori is otherworldly good.

“The signature dish is the crab in sauce, which comes in medium and large sizes. medium is two crabs with two bowls of rice, and large is three crabs. Compared with other Korean restaurants, the sauce crab taste is mild, and it will not be salty enough to explode in the middle of the meal and cannot continue to eat. The crab is fresh, not fishy, and the meat is firm, not squishy. The crab meat is also very full, the crab legs are full, there is no empty shell crab. The sea urchin rice is a little smaller but the sea urchin is enough. regular sea urchins are not particularly sweet, but they are fresh and worth the price. The sea urchin Rice bowl combo will be served with steamed eggs, runny eggs and two prawns in sauce. Raw marinated salmon rice is amazing to me. The salmon is marinated just enough to be flavorful, but not overly salty. The portions are generous. You can eat two bites of each piece of salmon.“

Highly recommend the Hamachi/yellowtail toro (so underrated), the scallops, and the squid/ika, but honestly any of the options won’t disappoint. Also a big fan of their tamago and their Takuan roll (which has fresh perilla leaves inside)!

“don’t listen to those people below. i’ve been here several times and it’s always an amazing experience. if you’re afraid of shrimp with the heads on and order a pimento cheeseburger with lettuce instead of a bun, you are infinitely unqualified to critique food.

what takes this place from good to great is the service. the host and servers are attentive without being overbearing and are deeply knowledgeable about all aspects of the raw bar, cooked food, wine, and beverages. i’ve never had an issue with accommodating simple modifications (like removing a pork product).

I was in fact at the restaurant the night one reviewer below (complaining about the service) was there. they were an entitled group of drunk girls asking for difficult requests (trying to split the bill a number of ways). as they were walking out of the restaurant and waiting for the uber, they were extremely loud and rude. I wouldn’t be particularly excited to serve their group either.

all in all, highly recommend this spot. the menu is always evolving, and now that they have a full bar, they make a killer martini.“

When we got to Santa Monica, we looked up restaurants to go have our 26 year anniversary dinner, we stayed at Hotel Delmar right across the street. We googled the restaurant menu, and decided what we were going to have. when we got there, and they brought out the menus, all what we decided to have was not on there. I was crushed. Because I had my mind set on the Halibut. I said it's ok I will just have the Ribeye, mind you I had a ribeye steak the night before. When the waiter came back, my wife asked if it's possible to get the Halibut and he said let me check with the chef. He came back later and said the chef said it's no problem. I was blown away. That was the best Halibut ( besides mine) that I have ever had. Thank you chef Shawn. From one chef to another, thank you. you made my night.“

We opted for the Sushi Bar Omakase for $109 which came with 8 courses (including dessert). A couple of courses had multiple pieces, and we left very full. The blue crab hand roll was my favorite part; it was huge, hot, and the sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The fish was super fresh and the pieces kept coming. It was fun to watch them being prepared right in front of us at the bar (there are table seats as well).
