I had one of their onion bagels - delicious and competes easily with Russ & Daughters or H&H bagel in NYC. I will be back, but Olive will have to stay home next time. “I had the pleasure of experiencing Catering Out The Box after winning their service as an auction item at the Chicago Scholars Gala last fall and let me just say… this was one of the best auction wins I’ve actually used. From the start, working with the owners was seamless. We collaborated to create a progressive menu that felt completely tailored to our evening. What I appreciated most was the flexibility. My Wholesome 360 entrees were restaurant quality, but with farm to table fresh ingredients-I could literally taste each of the food elements. We were there for a huge social club banquet, and the place was absolutely buzzing. The room was packed, the energy was high, the bartenders were clearly having a great time behind the bar, and the Shirley Temples were flowing like someone accidentally leaned on the soda gun for three straight hours.

Now before I even get into our night, I need to acknowledge another reviewer who once said this place is “2 Legit 2 Quit.”

After spending the evening there, I can confirm that statement is scientifically accurate. Atmosphere? Legit. Staff? Legit. Food? Legit. Hallways? Surprisingly legit. Carpets? Still legit. Bathrooms? Also holding strong in the legit department. Whoever wrote that review clearly did a full building inspection tour, and honestly I respect the thoroughness.

But the real MVP of the night was Kevin John, our table server.

Kevin John might be the quietest hardest-working server in the Midwest. No big announcements, no dramatic entrances — just pure efficiency. The man worked like a hospitality ninja.

Every time we looked down, more food plates had magically appeared on the table. No one asked. No one waved him down. Kevin John had already taken care of it. Plates cleared, new plates delivered, everything running like a perfectly organized banquet machine.

At one point we all realized something incredible: we had never once needed to ask for anything all night. Kevin John had already handled it before the thought even finished forming in our heads.

The man wasn’t just serving the table — he was quietly running a one-man food distribution operation while making it look effortless.

Between the fun crowd, the lively bartenders, the endless Shirley Temples, the legit carpets apparently approved by previous reviewers, and Kevin John making sure our table stayed well fed all night long, the entire event was fantastic.

Once we received the list of our preferred vendors and began reaching out to them, Sue from Butter and Vine immediately stood out to us. She was warm, friendly, informative, and hilarious. She was flexible and worked with us through our COVID-induced postponement and changes up until the day before our wedding (seriously!). And the best part--the food was INCREDIBLE. “It’s about time Chicago gets solid West African cuisine. Dozzy didn’t disappoint. Had the Designer Jollof Rice Bowl and it was delicious. I combined it with a couple orders of the shrimp suya sticks which put it over the top. Now, I loved the jollof, but that’s to be expected. What wasn’t expected was the shrimp. I can honestly say it was some of the best I’ve ever had. The herbs were perfect and it was grilled just the way I like it. There was one older gentleman working the counter and deli who handled all the customers very well. He had about 12 total orders within 30 minutes (walk ins, pick up, Uber Eats). The sandwich came with a whole pickle too. The Rachel was the most popular sandwich order from all the walk ins. Excited to back and explore their menu!“
