“Our first time here, it was last minute and we chose it based on a picture someone posted of a soup. We were pleasantly surprised to come in on a Sunday afternoon and we were provided with a table in one of their private rooms. We chose several options and when we tasted the soup, it was soo delicious. Everything was great. Can't wait to go back. It’s located in a small outlet, so parking can be limited since it’s shared. They do have some places to sit and eat but it’s limited especially during peak hours. When we came in, we practically had the whole place to ourselves. I believe it’s family owned and the owners are very nice and attentive. They have one gender neutral bathroom.We ordered stir fried lamb with onions, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, and shrimp, chive, and egg dumplings. Portion sizes are very generous and prices are reasonable.-stir fried lamb with onions 5 - lamb meat is very tender, requires very little chewing.-sweet and sour pork with pineapple 5 - most Americanized Chinese places, the pork would be soggy, but here the skin is very crispy. Pork inside is succulent.-shrimp, chive, and egg dumplings 5 - I really liked how they listened to my feedback from last time and added more moisture inside. They were definitely juicier and tastier than before. Skin is thin, good sized dumplings, and flavorful.Rating is 4No, the owners have not changed. I recommend getting dishes that are not the typical Americanized Chinese dishes like mongolian beef. Try something new and different.Dumplings I would give 4/5. “If you read any of the reviews for Al's Drive In online, people have a ton of nostalgia for this place. I find nostalgia for a restaurant can play a negative role for those who don't have the association, but that wasn't the case for me who only ate here for the first time today. The Chicago dog and super taco were solid but the combination fried rice was the hero for me. Never thought l'd find this kind of wok hei flavor from a Chicago Red Hots institution in Maywood, IL that would remind me so much of the fried rice I grew up with at my Chinese immigrant family's restaurant in Arizona. Honestly just throw in some bean sprouts and you'd have a 1:1 copy. I may not have the same nostalgia that a lot of the usuals have with Al's, but that familiar taste of home is so present in every bite of this fried rice. I'm immediately transported to teenage me devouring a large combination fried rice at my own family's restaurant after working a full day's 12hr shift in the summer and immediately passing out in my bed when I got home. I wish I had started coming here sooner.“

“First impressions walking in it’s old, they need to update a lot of stuff. Don’t let that scare you off because I smell nothing but cleanliness in the restaurant so I definitely wasn’t scared to eat there. The service quick and easy. I had the jumbo shrimp fried rice which was delicious, no excessive oils, no weird taste. I also tried the pot stickers and those in themselves were all worth it. The biggest pot stickers I’ve have and the sauce was so good. I don’t know if it’s made in house but some of the best sour sauce I’ve had.“
“The food was really great, huge portions for a good price. We did have to wait a while even though we had a reservation. It felt a little chaotic, but we did have 12 in our party, so probably that was the reason. They are super busy, give them a lot of credit handling so many in a small space. “Forbidden noodles' primarily culinary focus is Japanese Ramen and stir fry selections. The curry is good and tastes very much like the mild golden ramen brand Japanese curry that I make at home occasionally. The chicken and broccoli added to the standard rice and carrot/potato curry mixture were of good quality. The Tonkotsu had very good pork, and surprisingly, it included broccoli as well. The more common ramen garnishes of onions, baby bock choy, egg, naruto (fish cake), and seaweed were also in this bowl and tasted good. They have a cheese, steak, and jalapeño egg roll that was amazing, and yes, you should try one. Forbidden Noodles is a great addition to downtown La Grange and for this area, this is a good choice for ramen in the area. We ordered hongkong steak, kung pao chicken- perfectly cooked and the sauce and spiciness is not overpowering.; yeong chow fried rice is yummy too, salt and pepper chicken is not what we expected. We were expecting a chicken but this is chicken strips covered in batter but it turned out really good too. Service is fast and tge owner is akways nice. “Upon entering the restaurant with my wife and daughter, we found the ambiance to be extremely calming with traditional asian soothing music playing in the background and Chinese lantern lighting in the front window area. We then met and were seated by JoAnn, the co-owner of the restaurant. After receiving our soup (Hot and Sour) found it to be the most balanced (perfect hot/perfect sour) and delicious soup we have ever had in a long time. We then ordered pot stickers and Szechuan won ton, JoAnn explained all the pot stickers and won ton are homemade from scratch, not from frozen as well as the smoothies made with REAL fruit, no concentrate. Our main course was not overly saucey but flavorful with just the right amount of sauce to add to each dish's unique palette. It is important to note that each dish we ordered was very traditional to the way Chinese cuisine should be prepared and was not overly salty, oily, or seasoned. We left our host and the restaurant feeling satisfied and will be bringing the entire family in the very near future. We have finally found OUR new Chinese restaurant!“

Asked for veggies to be added to the Shrimp lomein and rather than the load of cabbage and green peppers we get from other Chinese restaurants they added a nice mix of mushrooms, peapods and broccoli. Tasted like homemade noodles too! Egg foo young and other dishes were great as well. If they don't mind coming out this far - we don't mind ordering!“

If you don't know what that is, it's basically like a mild spicey sauce that doesn't go overboard, with real chili flakes. They make it perfect here and their white rice is so yummy. It's my favorite dish. The pork is so soft and juicy as well as generous. You definitely want to try this place out. The place doesn't look like much but often times hidden gems don't always shine when they are hidden, and this one my fellow readers is definitely a hidden gem!
