“Most review here are 5 stars and a random few low stars that seem to be fake reviews or people that happen to be miserable. I have been coming here for about 20 years and the quality of sushi has always been great and very fresh. The fish used for all of the sushi is always imported and prices have not changed. I have tried everything here and have not been let down. The owner is truly an expert sushi master from Japan.“

No exaggeration, my boyfriend and I haven’t stopped talking about this place since we visited last year. We’ll finally be back in town next month and are beyond excited to be dining with them again. “Absolutely loved our experience yesterday. The basic omakase was delicious at $38, no hidden charges, and staff were lovely. Only slightly minor quibble was everything seemed a bit rushed and a little less peaceful than other places I've been to, but fair enough at that price. I was also a bit surprised at the rudeness of a customer talking on her phone when the staff were trying to engage her. That's not the restaurant's fault but maybe worth having a sign about using phones less and being in the moment more?!“

“My favorite omakase place in the city! I feel so lucky that Takeda is in our neighborhood. The high quality dishes are always presented beautifully, and each time we go, we'd be surprised by some special offerings that are so delicious but that we have never tried before (e.g., tiny white shrimp). Chef Takeda and his staff are always friendly, professional, and very informative with each dish that they serve; they'll share the specific prefecture from which the fish is from, and other information such as the season for the fish, and whether they aged it and for how long etc. The environment is calming and you don't hear any outside noise, so we could focus entirely on the culinary experience, and I love that! It is an intimate setting and I thoroughly enjoy watching Chef Takeda craft each dish with meticulous precision. It's definitely a treat to come here!“

“I am a local from New Jersey now living in Germany, came back to visit and was in the mood for a Poke Bowl. I have to say I have been to many poke places and this is THE BEST ONE. Everything tastes fresh. I love that you have many options on creating your bowl. I also had a taro bubble tea and it was delicious! Employees are very friendly and welcoming. I will be stopping here a few more times before I head back to Germany!“

It is a bit tough finding vegetarian dishes here and I wish the restaurant kept at least one or two large vegetarian dishes that arent pork/beef broth based. “I had a fantastic dinner here early on a Saturday evening. I opted for the Premium offering and it was absolutely worth it.

I was really impressed with the creativity in the dishes. Particularly the style of the rice and the use of acidic elements like pickles.

This menu also includes a truly diabolical nigiri with Wagyu, truffle and uni. Truly insane in the best way.

Excellent service as well with really friendly serving staff and chefs. Sit at the counter if you want to see the action.“

“Went to Choo Choo Train with five friends. Ordered Miso Salmon entree and it was delicious. Salmon was grilled perfectly, broccoli and carrots were cooked well and still crunchy, and mashed sweet potatoes were yummy. Cannot say enough about food and attentive service. Will return...no doubt!“

“Sushi by bou is a very intimate dining experience - 8 seats around a counter with the sushi chef telling you what each sushi course is. Omakase - like a chef's menu. This was our second time there and I'm planning to return in April. The fish is fresh, the presentation innovative. We had a flight of sake with the different courses. I have to say that I know nothing about sake but this pairing was delicious. Because the restaurant is small, your fellow diners enhance the experience and that was especially my experience last night. It's a great feeling to share your delight over the food with couples. “So happy to have found this hidden gem. It is on the lower level of a building with a different restaurant just above. They have a large outdoor patio with heaters behind the building which is perfect for covid-safe dining. The food was fantastic, excellent sushi! Top quality fish, beautiful preparation and presentation and there are a few omakase options. The hoji tea panna cotta dessert was phenomenal as well. The price is definitely ‘special occasion’ territory for most but well worth it if you love sushi. Will definitely be coming back and hope others find this hidden gem!“

“Morgan, the chef, has prepared a wonderful menu. We were staying in Midtown east and wanted a wonderful lunch. The restaurant is located on the lower level of Saks fifth Avenue.

The small space is decorated tastefully. The food and wine were superb. We love talking to the chef and were interested to hear how she came up with the menu. The service was fabulous and the team did a great job!“

“This is currently our favorite omikase restaurant. The food is always excellent and we appreciate the fixed seating times so it makes it easier to plan an evening.
But please - if you come here, in order to fully enjoy the subtle flavors of the sushi, don’t wear perfume or cologne. Our last two experiences here were somewhat marred by adjacent guests’ overwhelming fragrances. All of the senses should be focused on enjoying this amazing food, and having ones sense of smell assaulted by perfumes distracts from the experience of both the wearer and the people around them. “Having reservations at 7pm, we walked into a quite packed restaurant which is always a good sign. The restaurant looked pristine, and very upscale.

Having a look at their specials, I immediately opted in for their live scallop. When this arrived, my jaw was on the ground. The presentation alone was mind-blowing. We were even explained the "skirt" part of the scallop was served with a special sauce. This was an amazing starter that oozed freshness.

For mains, I opted in for their Sushi Deluxe Platter. This includes 10 pieces of nigiri and a roll. Each and every piece was expertly formed with perfect seasoned sushi rice. Each fish was at its optimum quality and showcased their own unique and distinct characteristics. I also decided to add an order of their Hokkaido Uni and O-Toro. The uni was fresh, slightly briny and had a subtle sweetness to it. The o-toro was rich, and completely melted in my mouth. An excellent piece of nigiri worth every penny.

Another main entree which was ordered was their American Domestic Wagyu Steak from Mishima Ranch. The presentation of this dish also was stunning. The steak itself was juicy, tender and cooked to the perfect requested medium rare.

There was a slight hiccup in terms of timing with our dishes. The steak came significantly faster than the sushi entrees. By the time the steak was almost done being eaten, the sushi entrees finally arrived. This came with many sincere apologies and a dessert on the house. This was a very kind and unexpected gesture.

What would have been a 4-star easily goes to a 5-star review based on their immediate recognition of the timing with the dishes and their ability to make up for it in a very sincere and honest way.

“The food is top notch. From the soup to the sushi. Even the ice cream is delicious. What really bothers me though is the service. There is a 90 minute time limit which I get but when you are rushed to get out by an hour that’s not right. Also when you’re hounding tables waiting to literally take a plate because you have nothing else to do that’s a problem. Finally when you’re coming up to tables and asking them for platters back because you don’t have enough supposedly that’s not good either. Last night I was hounded constantly. Twice I had people tell me to move my sushi to my paper plate because they needed the platter. May I suggest buying more platters. Love the food and yes I know I’ll be back but the service was ridiculous in your face. Don’t come here for date night because they don’t leave you alone“
