“The food was rich and flavorful. Some of the best eel, it was very tender. The sweet potato roll was crunchy and had so much flavor. The broth in the Ramen and Miso soup was not salty like most places and had a taste that complemented the dish.

The crunchy rice roll was the only dish that was average. It smelled much better than it tasted. The tuna and salmon tasted great but the actual fried portion on the rice was overpowering.“

“We went on a random weekday and had to wait in line for an hour to get in. But the food, music and atmosphere were all worth the wait. The music was amazing, very old school jazz with lots of improvisation. They have different artists every day so the experience is probably different. “If you don’t like a ramen with an actual broth base, keep walking! But if you like quality ingredients and no-frills ramen, this is the ramen for you. Shio is straight broth and the Sho Yu is slightly a bolder version.

The Cha-Shu pork were excellent cuts, with the right mix of meat and fat, and they were braised to the perfect melt-in-your-mouth texture without being too soft.

All for $18. Yes please. There is clearly a focus on quality ingredients and precision preparation. The atmosphere felt very tidy and a step above casual, with light jazz music and airy decor. A great add to the neighborhood.

The fries were quite nice as well.

The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. They had an authentic interest in our dining experience. We’ll definitely be returning from time to time. Hopefully brunch is similarly impressive!

“My local nabe sushi joint. Superb value for the quality. If you are looking for the classic basics and want excellent fish at very very reasonable prices, especially lunch, this is the one. I only have two issues with this restaurant. 1) if you are dining in, the place has a weird odor. Not fishy, but just sort of unventilated and close. Shame as the decor is very cute, and the booths are lovely. So I do takeout. 2) Perhaps because of the takeout volume, the door is very crowded with delivery bike people, especially at lunch. There has to be a better way to manage that. the tiny entryway cannot support the delivery traffic waiting to pickup. That said, by all means go. it is delicious“

“Magical experience near 33rd street/K town. I picked 18 course Omakase and ordered couple beers and a bottle of sake. Love the vibe. Chef works on the magic to present not-so-traditional items.

The Wagyu steak was my personal favorite - melted in my mouth with slight graceful smoky flavor. The creative seafood items were novel, including an appetizer of oyster plus uni plus caviar plus fish roe, which was an umami bomb.

Only drawback was nigiri items were average, but considering the price, they were still reasonably good.

On a recent Wednesday evening—September 10th at 7 PM—I stepped into a snug little spot on 38th Street to find it buzzing. The room was packed with young professionals, businessmen, and stylish women. My longtime friend Jeff and I blended into the lively crowd.

Full disclosure: I know the chef-owner personally, and this meal was generously hosted by my childhood friend. Still, as always, my words are honest.

The space is intimate, jewel-box small, glowing with dim light—sophisticated yet relaxed. Details matter here: polished silverware, sparkling glassware, a tiny table lamp. These small touches elevate the atmosphere and remind you dining is as much ritual as flavor.

Plates arrived swiftly despite the crowd. The food leaned Franco-Japanese, evoking Morimoto, Nobu, and Masa—an homage rather than imitation.

Two dishes stood out. The chicken thigh yakitori was sublime: grilled to perfection, dusted with sansho and peppercorns, and served on an antique-rimmed plate. Proof that the simplest dishes are often the hardest—and most rewarding. The truffle rice was equally memorable. During my three-week vacation back home in New York City, I’d avoided rice and carbs entirely, but this dish broke my resolve. Fragrant koshihikari, laced with truffle, finished with those irresistible crunchy bottom bits—I polished off the bowl without hesitation.

Cocktails, too, were playful and thoughtful, nodding to Queens and Brooklyn nightlife with green tea spirits and karaoke-inspired twists.

By the end, I marveled at how alive the restaurant felt for a Wednesday night. Packed, vibrant, and delicious. I’ll gladly return on my next trip, and I congratulate the chef-owner: holding one’s own on 38th Street is no small feat—and this place does it with grace and flavor.“
