“A true gem of Sichuan delights sending tingling sensations straight to your taste buds. A sultry and classy atmosphere perfect for a second date or surprise visit from your step-mom — the vibes here are top notch. Recommendations are the Ma Po Tofu (best in NYC) and Diced Chicken with Chili Pepper, both providing a one-way ticket to tingle town.“
“I love going to or even just ordering from Shan. Everything is fantastic (although I especially love their dan dan noodles). We usually share the Pork Dumplings in Chill Oil, the Ma-La Szechuan Wonton, Shrimp Dumplings, Pork Soup Dumpling, Crab Roe Soup Dumpling, Sweet & Spicy Udon, and Sliced pork belly w. mustard green.“
“2024 update:I take back what I said below. They updated the mapo tofu dish with soft tofu. I gave this place another chance and it’s actually an amazing restaurant with so many flavorful dishes. Still one of only TWO true Szechuan restaurants in Brooklyn.I just came here during the day for the first time yesterday, and it was such a nice vibe to sit in the restaurant with the sunlight. Very cute vibe, no loud music, and friendly attentive staff. The best way to judge a good sechuan place is by their Mapo Tofu dish. This place uses firm tofu in theirs and the sauce is very off. Very disappointing and not authentic. If I can’t get a good Mapo Tofu somewhere then it is pretty much a deal breaker for me.“
“I rarely eat Chinese food at a restaurant it’s usually takeout. However, on Saturday after shopping and the heavy rain we decided to stop in bay ridge and we decided for a change instead of Italian and I’m glad we did because the food was delicious the manager and all the staff were very friendly and accommodating I will definitely be going back the atmosphere was friendly and very warm I really enjoyed the experienceKid-friendliness: I didn’t have children but there were many families with children fascinated with the large fish tank with big fish“
“It's simply the best soup in the NYC, period. It's comfort food. The soup reached your soul. It's homey, like coming into visit a close relative. With that, you immediately feel love from the chefs who just humbly give you one of the best things you ever tasted. I'll dream about the food.“
“Liked the food a lot, it was fresh and very tasty! We ordered the sesame cold noodles, garlic Chinese eggplant, salt and pepper tofu and vegan made weeping tiger salad. Honestly each dish was better than the other, right amount of spice and was light. The atmosphere was kind of dive bar-y which was pretty nice. The prices were a bit high in my opinion though. The service wasn’t very good. Our server wasn’t very knowledgeable about the menu as we were asking her questions about it. She brought the check right after we finished our food without asking if we needed anything else which I found it very odd and sloppy! Maybe she was new…“
“the mapo tofu at chiko is the best food in greenpoint and potentially the best dish in all of nyc. it’s literally perfection. it’s somehow both deeply comforting and feels healthy and light. also, get the string beans. you won’t be disappointed. i’ve had it 3/7 days this week.“
“Food is good but they don’t honor reservations. Made a reservation for my mom’s bday specifically so it would be seamless for a 70 year old, but after checking in, I was told it would be 30 minutes. What’s the point of accepting reservations when it won’t be honored?“
“I'm not Chinese but I often see families here and I imagine this is what my friends always felt or talked about as a nostalgic time with their family eating a big pot of frogReally good tasting even tho I've only gotten the spicy frogStaff is very attentive and restaurant is just clean and nice to just sit chat and eatFeels nice and cozy to just be with friends for an hour eating a lot“
“Four stars on the basis of fairly decent food. They would do well to replace the benches with more comfortable chairs and hire a trained wait person. Maybe they were short staffed, it did snow in the AM…but I was jumping out of my skin watching the two of them running back-and-forth and whipping through the swinging kitchen door trying to handle a few takeout phone orders plus the two tables that were there!“
“I came here because of the reviews I saw on Yelp, and I'm glad I did. At this point, I can't even remember what I ordered yesterday, but went for lunch. It was freezing outside, but thankfully it was nice and warm in there. Still, I took my order out to my car. The egg roll was one of the best I've ever had. The main beef dish I got was very good, too. But maybe my favorite thing was placing the order with a woman working the front counter. She described things as honestly and as thoroughly as she could (not a native English speaker), and I just really appreciated her effort. At first look, the place isn't very different from the typical Chinese take out place, but here, I got the feeling that they gave a damn. I would return if in the area again.“
“The place made me felt like I went back in the times. The place was superrr cooollll. They had a Photo Booth next to it, the photos came out superr cutee. Drumrrrooolllll to the one and only chili oil dumplings. It was one of best dumplings ever. I doubted if it would taste good but it was straight up a chef’s kiss. The Thai tea was a ride to heaven. The structure of the chicken noodles was perfect, the chicken was so fresh. They gave a complimentary tea, it felt refreshing.“
“I’ve been coming to dine in this restaurant ever since it has opened. It’s one of the most authentic Sichuan cuisine in NYC. While every dish being very delicious, the frog fish I had stood out to me. It was fresh and very similar to the one I had in China. Apart from the food, the service is also extremely good. The staff were quick to assist my needs and very polite during my dining. Definitely recommended !“
“When in the mood for Chinese food we’ll stop everything, pre-order, get in the car and drive here for pickup. Food is consistently delicious with bold flavors that will crush any cravings. The offerings are plentiful ranging from simple to spicy to some really authentic stuff which I will at some point try.Although I’ve never eaten in, the restaurant is quiet and perfectly suited for sit down.FUN FACT - they only take Visa and cash.“
“So glad this location is here, now I can get delivery to Carroll Gardens in half the time. The chicken dumplings with the cinnamon red oil are definitely worth a try. Veggie egg rolls are the best I’ve ever had.Vegetarian options: You can request no meat versions of some dishes.“
“Spectacular. We really like Hunan Delight (always well done) but wanted a variation, so we tried Authentic Szechuan-and bam! While maybe obvious, we hadn't thought about the difference between Hunan cooking and Szechuan cooking, but it's now clear. A solid choice.“
“This is the neighborhood Chinese restaurant. It's run by a family and they are always so nice and sweet. I used to frequent them a lot over the years when they had all types of specials. But, Chinese has gotten expensive over the years, and the specials aren't as special anymore lol. But the food is okay. Recently, i hosted a Christmas gathering of a small group of friends, and i needed food fast. They had a party tray of chicken wings which were a decent price, and fresh. I also ordered a large fried rice and lo mein. All very delicious and the portions were good. I paid around $55 for everything. Not bad i think. I forgot to get photos. It's pretty good for what it is.“
“Antidote Restaurant totally nails the Chinese food scene! The vibes are cool – a mix of old-school and modern. The menu's like a journey through China, and everything tastes spot-on. The staff is friendly and knows their stuff, making the whole experience chill and tasty. Whether you're into casual eats or something fancier, Antidote is your go-to for legit Chinese grub.“
