“The history of this place makes it worth the trip if you're into New York City mafia history, this was originally Robert's lounge which was owned by Jimmy Burke back in the seventies. The original Lufthansa heist was planned in this building, multiple bodies were buried in the basement and backyard according to Henry Hill, lots of now famous mobsters hung out here. But now the service there is excellent, the food was great, I had no complaints.“

“I saw that one review from the person saying their oxtail was bad, but saw a plethora of positive reviews standing against it. I decided to give them a go and do NOT regret it! Lovely little spot for a late night meal! The cashier was very pleasant with a great attitude. I came by after finding my Airbnb and ordered 3 empanadas: Jerk Chicken, Salmon, & Oxtail. This is not a standard menu option, but she told me I could mix and match :)
I loved it!!! WONDERFULLY tasty food and a perfect crisp to the empanadas - not too hard and not too soft/mushy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!“

“Was recommended to go here a couple of weeks ago by a friend who lives nearby and always Door Dash from here. Ordered the escovitch meal and fried whiting for my daughter. The whiting never made it home 😊 It was crunchy and very well seasoned. My daughter ate it all in the car. Thank you to the server for giving her good pieces. The escovitch, I should've gotten a large. It was so good. Definitely a much different and better taste that what I am used to in Queens. I will definitely be back“

“Me and my large family had dinner at this restaurant to honor my fathers heavenly birthday. It was truly the best experience I've had at a restaurant in a very very long time and it was thanks to our waiter Jesus. He was very attentive and helpful. He saw that we had small children and helped us with their order first and then proceeded to take the rest of our orders. He really loved his job and was very warm and kind. The establishment as a whole is very nice and classy. Very grown and sexy. The music is perfect and the food was very good! The oxtail Lo Mein was so good. Its located inside Hotel Indigo, to the right after entering. I really really loved this experience. Thank you so much. I'll be back with my girlfriends or on a date❤️🙏🏽 A new staple spot for me.“

“I usually get jerk chicken there and patties. These are the ones I like to buy there. The other food are good too but, I have my preferences. Just jerk chicken, not the meal . Long time ago, I used to buy fish there but,it became too hot/ spicy for me to digest.“

Mummy the owner, she is such a delight to speak with each and every time. not sure who the chef is, but please don’t change your chef. Keep the good food coming. this week’s menu each day they had something different. It was a surprise. Big up to Step On Top. You’re doing an amazing job..“

“I love Jamaican Flavors patties. First time I had Ackee patties, I fell in love. I was recommended by one of the workers to try the impossible patty, the vegetable partty and I can say they are delicious. I love the impossible patty, will definitely try that and all the other two I purchased. The cake I bought I love it. I usually order the chocolate, but this one yummy. Thanks for your service and I will continue to support.“

“I went in expecting dinner. I left questioning the very concept of reality.
First, the building itself seems to have been constructed in a parallel universe where architects hate humans. The walls were misaligned, the ceiling sagged like it was mourning, and a single, flickering light overhead created shadows that seemed to whisper, “Why are you here?” The entrance mat was sticky—like a portal designed to trap souls. My shoes protested violently as I stepped on it, and I briefly considered amputating my feet just to escape the adhesive horror.
Once inside, the air assaulted me. It smelled like wet newspapers left in a closet with a single shoe and the faint regret of a thousand broken dreams. My lungs burned, my sinuses flared, and I swear I could hear the air itself groaning in despair. A ceiling fan rotated at the speed of glacial movement, stirring despair into the already tragic atmosphere.
I sat down on a chair that had clearly been passed down from the Stone Age. When I shifted my weight, it emitted a series of sounds—cracks, pops, groans—that could be interpreted as a complex language of suffering. The table wobbled like it was testing my patience. There were stains on the surface in patterns reminiscent of ancient constellations—but instead of stars, they were old spaghetti sauce.
The menu looked like it had been printed during a war. Pages were torn, faded, damp, and one was inexplicably sticky with something I refused to identify. The handwriting of the specials appeared to have been scrawled by a frenzied raccoon in a creative rage. Dishes included “Mystery Meat Surprise,” “Something That Probably Was Once Food,” and “Chef’s Emotional Breakdown Platter.”
I chose the safest item: soup. The bowl arrived lukewarm. The liquid quivered as if it had consciousness, and the aroma was simultaneously pungent, metallic, and vaguely apologetic. I took a sip and experienced a flavor so complex that my brain short-circuited: notes of sadness, despair, and wet cardboard intermingled with a hint of existential dread. I pushed the bowl away and wept quietly into my napkin.
Attempting to use the bathroom was another saga. The door would not open without a Herculean effort. The floor was sticky. The sink produced a trickle that sounded like a dying animal. The mirror was scratched and fogged, making me look like a character from a psychological horror movie. The toilet barely functioned. I am certain the plumbing was designed as a social experiment in futility.
The staff, when they appeared, moved as if they were in slow motion, trapped in a parallel reality where human interaction was optional. Asking for water took fifteen minutes. Asking for the check took twenty-three. My existence was tested. My patience was burned to ash.
When finally escaping, I felt sunlight as if it were a spiritual intervention. Birds chirped in joy. I collapsed on the sidewalk, grateful to be back in the real world.
If this place were a movie, it would be “The Neverending Nightmare: Restaurant Edition.”
If it were a natural disaster, it would be on the Richter scale of 12.
If it were a lesson, it would be “How to Permanently Question All Life Choices.”“

“visited Paradise Jerk Jamaican Restaurant for the first time today and decided to try the cornmeal porridge and an order of sweet plantain. I have to say, I was very impressed! The porridge was smooth, creamy, and full of authentic Jamaican flavor seasoned just right with the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. It had that comforting, homemade taste that instantly reminded me of traditional island cooking. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the service was quick. The portion was generous, and the food came out hot and fresh. For my first experience, it definitely left a positive impression, and I’m looking forward to going back to try more dishes on their menu.“

“My church just hosted a fish fry. I shopped around everywhere to find a price that was right. All the prices that the big name restaurants gave me were unrealistic. I found this wonderful woman, owner of this beautiful restaurant. She was so polite, so helpful, and motivating when I felt like giving up on the event. I ordered 2 kinds of fish, 50 total, and that was the NICEST fish I’ve ever eaten. I could recommend this establishment to any party, any event, any anything lol. This is the place to be. she’s very efficient and I loved the entire experience with her.“

“I absolutely LOVE the food. I got a plate with oxtails, rice & peas, plantains and he makes sure your plate is full. Everything tasted like it was seasoned perfectly, the gravy was surprisingly light and delicious. I’m 1000% going back.
I sincerely doubt the bad reviews are from him, the plates aren’t even the same. I met his Mom too and she was really sweet! Made the experience even better ?
FYI: I took the picture below after a couple bites“

“I come here often. The food is definitely a bit overpriced but it is good and consistent. The customer service is great as well, compared to other Jamaican spots.
With that being said I got there the other day in the perfect time slot to get the lunch special. I asked about it and the lady said “we don’t have the lunch special right now”. I was so confused. If yall don’t want to offer it please TAKE THE DAMN SIGN DOWN. What’s the point in having it up?
Besides that, I definitely reccomend this spot.“

“Anyway, I went on TikTok craving a good plate of jerk chicken and we all know Tik Tok is an amazing guide. I saw a video about irie jerk and KNEW I had to try it the same day. And I did. Since then I have been a regular at irie jerk. I have always had a great experience and my chicken is always up to par. I truly appreciate the copious amounts of sauces available! My favorite combo is the sweet chill and chilli jerk. It gives me the perfect balance of spice and sweetness. Since the closing of the jerk spot on church and 94th I haven’t found a place that gives the same jerk chicken taste it was popular for until I found irie jerk.
After reading all of the reviews, let me say the time of day in which you purchase food makes a big difference at ANY and EVERY food establishment. There are busy days and there are slow days. This will directly affect the food quality. Additionally food is subjective, what I look for in jerk chicken may not be what the next person looks for.
Nonetheless, I am a proud patron of Irie Jerk!“

also v suprised they dont make their own hot sauce -
overall great food and a good foundation but if they wanted to double their visitors they would do the above, along with reducing the price by lb slightly.^“

“For Thanksgiving dinner we ordered a large pan of j*** salmon and a pan of Rasta pasta. The pasta was amazing and the salmon was even better! They don’t serve you small pieces of salmon... they were meaty! And made for great leftovers. When I visit New York again, Island Choiz will definitely be a go to.“

“Some people prefer quality over quantity. But this was both. Most cheesiest rasta pasta $12 and added jerk chicken $7 iv ever eaten. Also the portion size was so much that the container couldn't close. Check them out. I'd recommend.“
“Place is very clean, the food does taste good, you only have to watch out for the amount you take it goes by weight. Overall, I like the food here, its buffet style most things are weighted by the pound.“

“It was a good experience, I went there initially to find out how much it would be for a small pan of BBQ chicken and it was way too much so I didn't order it but I did get half chowmein and half fried rice with BBQ chicken and it was really good. “I’m using a 5 start review so people see this. These staff members are genuinely disgusting. I’m unsure if it’s the owner or if it’s a manager who was speaking to me, but I came in today after seeing a disabled homeless man asking for food outside (he couldn’t come inside because his mobility scooter was too big) and i decided to go in and ask if they had soup. The lady looked outside, saw the man, rolled her eyes and straight up told me no. Regardless if she wasn’t lying or not, don’t give attitude to people who are consumers or potential consumers. You also should know how long your food takes to cook since I know this place has been open for a while. If food takes 3 hours to cook, you start making it before consumers come in. I ended up going somewhere else and buying this man some soup because no one deserves to be hungry and cold. Horrible service and attitude.“

“My first time at Kingston Grill and I’d it weren’t for the professional, well mannered lovely lady at the counter it very well could have been my last. However, I will definitely return as in addition to the wonderful customer service experienced on Saturday July 22 at around 4pm. The food was delicious!!! I ordered the oxtail meal as well as sweet chili chicken wings. Awesome!!“

“The food is delicious and portions reasonable, pricing is very affordable however they need to invest in customer service: meaning perhaps offering delivery and taking orders over the phone! If your lunch time is 1hr it is not feasible for you to stand on line half hour just to get food!.“

“Soldiers is getting bad, I'm not sure if they changed the chef but I waited all week to get the stew peas and rice which had no seasoning, none, not even salt and pepper in when I call to inform the Of this error they had attitude think I was going to move my car and come back for a refund (which is what they hope for) 2nd Saturday morning 9am I buy food because I don't want stale food 2nd time the fried dumpling are drenched in cold oil and and then breakfast cold Not sure what you want to do but but uncooked hard meat is killing black folks and not listening isnt working neither.“

“Customer service was great over the phone. Amazing food. I ordered delivery (I didn’t do Uber eats, just called because I wanted the restaurant to receive 100% of the profit) and it came quick. I received a medium oxtail with macaroni and cheese. I would’ve taken a photo but it looked too good not to take a bite. I wish I got more oxtail because it was delicious!! The Mac and cheese was amazing — perfectly cheesy. I can’t wait to come back for more of their food options like the stew meat or even the banana bread (and tell everyone I know obviously)!
Edit: I got more food the next day! The stew chicken was as delicious as I hoped it would be alongside that AMAZING curry goat. The curry goat tasted like heaven — it tastes fresh off the island! The curry chicken was also very good and I got a great portion of everything. The standout had to be the beef patty which was the BEST Jamaican beef patty I’ve ever had. Now I got to buy one with every order!! I thought the bulla had a beautiful sweet spice to it. Perfect for any meal. Everyone I knew wanted a bite of the curry spiced bread as well. My sister said she’s going to order here everyday if she can ?. Overall, everything was perfect and I am glad there’s more yummy places to eat in this neighbourhood.
I’ve missed eating things like this (that actually taste good) and they really made my day.“
