“my fiance and I were in Philly (from Maine) and she treated me to Osteria for my birthday dinner. The service was amazing throughout the meal, I wish I got the servers name as he was really an incredibly friendly young man who clearly knew the menu very well. The atmosphere is wonderful and the interior is just lovely. In terms of the food, I had the wild boar bolognese which was a special that night, and it was AMAZING!! Really, all the food was impeccable, from the focaccia to our mains. Super pleased and the next time I’m in town, I will most definitely be coming back!!“

“My best friend brought me to this hidden gem last summer for my birthday and surprised me with a return visit this year — and I swear, it just keeps getting better. Hands down, this might be the best Italian in Philly. The food doesn’t just sit pretty on the plate — it jumps out, grabs you by the soul, and gives you a warm, savory hug. Every bite is a bold, beautiful explosion of flavor that hits you in the heart and the taste buds. This place isn’t just dinner — it’s a love story in pasta form.“

“Been eating there since I was a kid with family in the market. Now live in Key West for last 30 years but specifically make sure each time I come up to see family I go to Villa Di Roma, clams casino, asparagus, gravy and the people there that run it all family. Amazing piece of the food history of the Italian market that is a must try anytime.“

“I took my girlfriend here for our anniversary and we had a great experience. The ambience was nice, the staff was friendly, our waitress was attentive and the food was good. The manager Timothy Fisher stopped by our table twice to check on us and as we were on our way out, he ran up the stairs to hand us my girlfriend's purse which was left at our table. We really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be coming back in the future. Thank you Tim, Maryn and team for all that you do!“

“Wow! Great restaurant, small and intimate atmosphere, delicious food and super nice staff. We had the focaccia with meatballs and the polenta fritters for start, followed by the lumache and the dirty martini pork chop. For desert the chocolate tart is mind blowing. Chef James went around during the dinner and is a top-notch guy, very friendly. Will be back many times for sure.“

“Worth the wait. This was our last Philly Michelin m-starred restaurant to try. It’s the absolute best. The food was extraordinary and I’m already dreaming of my next meal there. My particular favorites included the buckwheat tart with morels and both pasta courses (one was an add on). Sadly I will now never feel satiated unless I’m eating Chef Schulman’s triangoli. A beautiful and intimate space with incredible care by the entire staff. Amanda Schulman was incredibly welcoming and engaged with the diners. Wine pairing was outstanding as was my Negroni made with Bruto Americano. The marzipan rhubarb cake was the stuff dreams are made of. So, so, so happy after this meal. Did I mention? Attentive and wonderful, wonderful staff. Thank you for an amazing evening!“

And always my end to a great m a also is a dessert. I am seeker of great tira misu, and their's was outstanding as well and homemade as everything else had been. But I must know if the tira misu was made with mascarpone. Please ler me know. I will definitely come again!“

“This place is great! Service was great and our server/the staff was so attentive. Food was delicious, the family style is perfect in terms of serving sizes! We got the tuna crudo and squash arancini for starters. Then we got the mushroom tortellini, penne ala vodka, and the chitarra with meatballs. Dessert we had like a white chocolate pudding, and an apple pastry. Everything was delicious - our only complaints are that the mushroom pasta was slightly over salted, the peas in the penne felt a bit too hard and undercooked, and the desserts were a bit too sweet for my taste. Our favorites were the tuna, chitarra, and arancini. I recommend making a reservation but we walked in and sat at the chefs table (first come first serve) and it was so much fun watching them make our meal (shoutout to the chefs working tonight)! Note: I cant speak on regular serving sizes and their affordability/value since we only got family style.“

“Came here with my wife, and after we agreed Illata is one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Philadelphia. The food was creative, seasonal, fresh; the staff friendly and personal; and the intimate yet casual atmosphere made it feel like we were having an exclusive dinner-for-two. Highly recommend!“

“Thank heavens for Colonial Beach Local Foodie’s referral. Meet a gentleman at Thousand Trails resort just outside of Colonial Beach Va. that had a thick Upstate NY accent. We preceded to reminisce about family in Upstate NY,, of course food rolled into the conversation,. That’s how I came across Nonna Lena’s Italian Cuisine. I stopped by the restaurant by myself a couple of later.. Thought I’d get a quick lunch fix. Wrong! My eyes nearly popped out of my head when I the chief my plate of Eggplant Parmesan. What a wonderful freshly made dinner (plus leftovers for 2 extra meals). The staff all were very friendly. Chiefly came out to see how I liked my meal. He shared some details about the newly open restaurant & homemade recipes, etc. He mentioned breakfast was also served and somehow in the conversation he decided to send me home with a sample of sausages & gravy along with my husbands meal. OMGoodness, the next day my breakfast was fantastic. Foodie’s note. Their food is prepared fresh from scratch daily😊. Don’t past by Colonial Beach Va. without dinning at Nonna Lena’s Italian several times.“

“Irwin's is one of those rare South Philly spots that actually lives up to the hype without trying too hard. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm and intentional—bright, open space, relaxed energy, and a vibe that makes it just as good for a casual dinner as it is for a planned night out.
The menu is where Irwin’s really stands out. It’s not overloaded or confusing, just focused and well thought out. Everything feels like it was designed with care, from the small plates to the larger shared dishes. The flavors are clean but still bold enough to keep things interesting. You can tell the kitchen pays attention to detail instead of just pushing out trendy food. Even simple dishes end up tasting elevated.
Service is another strong point. The staff is attentive without hovering, and they’re genuinely helpful when it comes to recommendations. There’s a balance there that a lot of restaurants miss—professional but still relaxed enough that you don’t feel rushed or pressured.
The rooftop space is also a big bonus. On a nice night, it really changes the whole experience. You get a great view of the neighborhood, and it adds a layer of personality that makes the meal feel more memorable than just “going out to eat.”
Pricing is fair for what you’re getting, especially considering the quality and setting. It’s not a budget spot, but it doesn’t feel overpriced either—you leave feeling like you got what you paid for.
Overall, Irwin’s is the kind of place that works for multiple occasions: date nights, group dinners, or just a solid meal when you want something better than average. It’s consistent, well-run, and easy to recommend to anyone looking for a reliable, high-quality dining experience in South Philly.“

“I’ve heard about Fiorino for so long, especially from someone who lives in Florida! I finally went and it was all they said it would be! Absolutely delicious! I asked our server what entree I should get because I couldn’t decide between 2 of them that I wanted. He said “No problem! I’ll bring you a half portion of each!” WHO does that in today’s world?! So absolutely kind and cool. I loved every single thing I had there and can’t wait to go back!“
