“We had just arrived in Alexandria and we were looking for a place to eat and we stumbled across this Italian restaurant. They kindly seated us under the gorgeous lighting which creates a romantic atmosphere. I ordered the rigatoni which was phenomenal and quite literally melted in my mouth. The drinks were also very good. They gave us complementary mini soups, bread and a surprise dessert simply out of kindness which made my day. Thank you!!!“

“I ordered a special dish that was not in the menu and I was surprised to experience a restaurant that will cater to what I want to eat. The squid alla marinara pasta sautéed perfectly blended with the right spices and herbs. I tasted basil and it was minty and really satisfied my appetite. Thank you for the extra freshly made bread, salad with the special house sauce + the tiramisu for the dessert. “I had previously reviewed this restaurant on yelp and the review has somehow been removed. Sad, because it was a 5-star review with a photo of the amazing birria torta that I ordered. It was perfectly toasted on the outside with a soft middle like it should be. And the flavor was amazing. That was my first visit. I've been back several times for takeout and dine in and I have never been disappointed. Last weekend, I met a friend for dine-in and was disappointed to see the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. I want to stand outside waving a big sign to get people to stop in and see what they are missing. This last time, my friend ordered a taco salad -- all the ingredients were so fresh and the taco shell outside was perfectly crispy (muy importante for the salad). She and I both ordered a margarita -- which we both found to be pretty terrific. And the service is pretty outstanding. I hope this doesn't wane as the success of the restaurant increases. The staff is friendly and helpful and obviously engaged in the success of the business. I really do think the location is a deterrent. I've seen more than one restaurant fail in this location in the last few years. The inside is festive and welcoming and is a sharp contrast to the outside which is an easily-missed corner lot with a vape shop. Don't let the outside fool you -- just go! “Don't judge a book by its cover. My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Fratelli's on Van Dorn in Alexandria Virginia today. From the outside... yea it looks like a locally owned restaurant no special pomp and circumstance. Inside it's clean and nicely appointed. Then you get to the food and honestly this rivals some of Washington so-called best Italian restaurants which I will not name here, but if you're Washingtonian and you've been here a while you know them well and they're not as stellar as they used to be. The Chef owner Manuel greeted us as my husband ordered his second enteee for lunch Veal Parmesan after having a delectable nice size portion of Lasagna. Yes that right his second entree. He's a big eater. I had the chicken Parmesan. All three entrées were amazing pasta cooked to perfection.... the cuts of veal and chicken, amazing, and the sauce out of this world. They even make their own in-house dressing which we purchased a separate bottle of to go. If you're used to Washington's normal fair of Italian restaurants, and you really want something different and amazing, don't hesitate....just go!“

My favorite is the eggplant parmesan- so crispy and flavorful. Many other great vegetarian options as well. My partner loves their carbonara and says it is the best. It was a disappointing since we were in time and made the reservation far in advance online and even called the restaurant to make sure they had our reservation. “The service is the BEST and owner is such a nice guy and is always making sure the customer is happy. The GF pizza is literally better than the regular pizza (but a bit more expensive). Another favorite is for sure the Athena salad … such great flavors all around. The menu is great and again the owner and his staff are fantastic!
