While exploring Alexandria’s waterfront, we stopped for lunch at Vola’s Dockside Grill and it ended up being one of our favorite dining experiences of the trip.

The location is hard to beat. We were seated on the outdoor patio right along the waterfront with beautiful views of the marina, boats, and the Potomac River. It was the perfect setting to relax, enjoy the weather, and watch the activity on the water while having lunch.

We started with a selection of oysters on the half shell and were impressed with both the freshness and quality. The oysters were cold, clean, and flavorful, served with all the traditional accompaniments. For our main appetizer, we ordered the coconut shrimp, which was outstanding. The shrimp were large, perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, and paired with a delicious dipping sauce that complemented the sweetness of the coconut coating.

To drink, I ordered a Bloody Mary that was every bit as good as the food. Nicely seasoned, refreshing, and garnished generously, it was the ideal waterfront cocktail.

What really completed the experience was the service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being intrusive. Food and drinks arrived promptly, and we never felt rushed despite the restaurant being busy.

Vola’s combines fresh seafood, excellent cocktails, attentive service, and one of the best waterfront dining locations in Alexandria. Whether you’re looking for oysters, seafood, drinks with a view, or simply a relaxing place to enjoy the riverfront atmosphere, this is a spot that should be on your list.

“Flavor was redundant, but you definitely get what you pay for. The crab cakes were the best thing on the menu and we loved how it was actually a crab cake! A lot of places call a piece of fried bread with some crab meat ij it a crab cake, but not Vola's, they are the real deal! Matisse was our waitress and she was great!“

Everyone in the restaurant was very welcoming and nice. I felt I was back home. I don’t know if it was the owner but he was so nice and offered me to help me carry my order to my car. “The food was pretty okay. I liked the atmosphere and how the restaurant is decorated. The restaurant is very small, so I'd suggest doing takeout. The restaurant sells trinkets, which was fun. The trinket I bought wasn't expensive. There's a free parking lot that wasn't too full. The restaurant seems to be run by a dad who both cooks the food and mans the register/phone. His kids were there too (not disruptive or anything though). He seemed to be a dad putting in a lot of work to make ends meet. I hope his restaurant continues to be successful. The trinkets and decorations were very endearing.“

“The most delicious, authentic Indian food served by a most gracious gentleman. The Nan, of which there are several choices, was warm and buttery. The homemade cheese was exceptionally delicious. Another diner had butter chicken and was raving at how tender the chicken was. And the samosas were wonderful. Everything at our table was a 10 out of 10. Treat yourself, dine at this wonderful restaurant!“

“The tasty food is one thing BUT one thing which stood out for me is their great customer service. Jane and her other colleague were all smiles, kind and attentive. You can tell they love the job that they do. This is the kind of service you wanna comeback for more. I also appreciate that they're wearing a transparent mouth shield as it looks more neat than a regular mask. They offer free soup and coffee on top of your regular order which is great since it's winter around this time. I hope they can be consistent with their business approach and I wish their new store a success!“

“I had a really good experience here. I ordered California rolls and the food was fresh and tasted really good overall. Everything was prepared pretty quickly even though it seemed busy.

The staff was friendly which I appreciated. I had a small issue with my order since the cucumber was missing from the rolls but they handled it well when I reached out.

“Our server Jayla was awesome! She was very friendly. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2 p.m. weather was gorgeous outside and the outdoor patio was well covered, but we decided to sit inside. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. Jayla asked if it was our first time at Blackwall Hitch, which it was, so she went over the local favorites. She recommended the flaming crab dip and it was delicious!!! Jayla offered us extra Naan chips which I thought was generous for an upscale restaurant. I asked if she could bring us extra with a to-go box to take the rest of the dip. We also had the mahi mahi tacos and chicken-pancetta flatbread - both were great. Jayla often checked on us. We had a lovely time and the service was great! Thank you!“

“I really love this place! The food is always hot, flavorful, and the portions are huge (they give you so much rice!). The menu offers a great variety, and the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The pick-up service is quick and efficient — my order is always ready when I arrive. Definitely one of my favorite spots for Chinese food, I always leave satisfied.“

“As soon as we walked in, the bartenders waved us to the bar like we were old friends and were so friendly. We came at 10pm on a Friday night and didn’t know they have one side of the restaurant as a club so be warned it gets very loud because of the music. We didn’t care but I know some people may find the info useful. We got the steak fajitas and ceviche and the steak was some of the best I’ve ever had. The ceviche was really good but super spicy and a lot of lemon. We had a good laugh at the guys singing karaoke and everyone included us in the shenanigans! If you want a fun night out, try this place. If you want a quiet peaceful dinner, maybe try to dine at an earlier hour.“

“We dined here last night (July 8) and it was wonderful! This was our second visit to this location. Being Landry members, we try the restaurants wherever we are visiting. I am appalled at how rude the guests in line were to the hostess, Angela. She kept her composure while being videoed and berated for something that she said to all the guests…there were no reservations available. I didn’t see the manager, but I hope they back their employees. Otherwise, delicious meal and great service! We will return!!“
