“We love this Japanese restaurant for the high food quality, high staff quality, reasonable prices in today's market & location! Today, I tried the Nigiri Lunch and loved it! My husband had the double meat chicken teriyaki and some of mine cause it looked so tasty, and it truly was scrumptious ! We started with the Crae crae roll (shared). In my Nigiri lunch, I upgraded the salmon to sockeye, one dollar more, but worth it! The miso soup was perfect for us as we watch our sodium and they only use low sodium soya sauce! The combination of food, service & cost is why they get 5 stars! Any staff we saw were very friendly & said hello & goodbye. Customer service is top notch! Aside note, their green tea is one of the best we've enjoyed, too!“

All the food was amazing, I had the chicken teriyaki don. Highly recommend with the crispy skin and perfectly cooked rice.

“Highly recommend! First time at Todai and they're my new favorite spot when visiting Vancouver. Ordered 4 sushi party platters (sashimi platter and rolls) and there was more than enough food for 12 Americans ? The fish was fresh and the price was great! Edamame, egg rolls, and fish apps were all delicious. The staff were friendly (I called them 3 times to change my pickup times), the space is small but oh so cute. Online order form is so easy to use as well.

“Good food, although a little high priced. The atmosphere is warm but the restaurant seating area is extremely restricted and very small. It was not too busy so it was not a problem. But something to be aware of. They would not be able to accommodate a large group.“

-The mango Tango roll was like so amazing they had more than enough toppings and the flavor was like nothing I have had before
-the takoyaki was pretty good , I loved how the outside had a crispy shell , encasing the gooey inside. It was a tad pricy for how much we got though.
-the cherry blossoms roll was pretty good I loved how tangy and sweet it was.
-The veggie udon was solid , noodles had good texture , soup could use more flavor.
- the wasabi mayo prawn was alright , the sauce only tasted sweet and there wasent enough flavor so I had trouble finishing it.

“Probably the best casual sushi place this side of town, the waitress is excellent, don't need them to be chatty but the smile did go a long way. Sushis are always good, although we would like the seaweed to be a bit more crunchy but really that's just nitpicking.“

Their spice levels range from 1 to 40, making it perfect for everyone—from mild spice lovers to heat daredevils. I tried Level 30 (definitely not for the faint of heart!) and had to tap out after a few bites, but their lassi was a lifesaver. My partner finished Level 30 like a champ, though not without breaking a sweat!

I ended up switching to Level 5 and absolutely loved it—so flavorful and balanced. The curry soup is rich, comforting, and packed with delicious ingredients. They also have $1 chicken wings during happy hour, which are a great addition to the meal.

The microwave is for pre-prepare food for the day. If she have to cook from scratch, it will take more time than now. All the dishes are freshly made on kitchen and very reasonable, compared to other Japanese restaurants.“

I can confidently say this is the highest quality omakase I’ve had in Vancouver—better than the two Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants I’ve tried before. The only thing I think could be improved is that the flavors were a bit on the salty side. If they were a touch milder, it would better highlight the freshness of the ingredients. I ordered the tempura, chicken karage seafood udon, and a crazy roll. Everything was honestly perfect. The tempura was super crispy (attempted to buy more) and dipping it in the soy sauce made it even better. The seafood udon had a nice sweet twist to the broth, and I asked them to make it spicy and it turned out absolutely perfect. The crazy roll was fresh and great too, I suggest to add creamcheese if you like creamcheese. I noticed it's a mix of japanese and korean dishes, which is perfect.

“Sure, the atmosphere isn't the most luxurious, the service can lean to the help-yourself, and the food is good without knocking your socks off: but the value is terrific, and the owner-operator works so hard (often front of house as well as chef) it would be churlish to award anything else.

Sometimes you just want a good, quick bite of authentic Japanese food, and this is the place.
