“Papa Ray's is what I call a small business. The place is small and there are no tables and chairs. Imagine a family size garage with a pizza oven and commercial refrigerator. Normally we order a pie and get it delivered in about 45 min. This time I picked up because we had a birthday party with 12 ten year olds and they were tearing the place up. The place is small functional and effective, the pizza was piping hot and on time. I got home and everyone was happy. If not there might have been a riot and they probably would have burned the house down. By the way, order 5 pizzas (be sure to get a stamp for each one) and redeem it for a medium sized 1 topping pie on your next order. I love their rewards program.“

I ordered the chicory salad, arancini balls (the charred scallion aioli is to die for!), and, of course, the famous raviolo—a true treat with its decadent brown butter sauce. “We had the pasta tasting menu. A couple of items were absolutely awesome, but overall we found it a bit off balance. Some vegetables (I'm not a chef) or something to cut through the constant starch and fat profiles would have been better. We thought the vegetarian course was in some ways better than the other one. Worth stopping in for a fancy treat any time!“

The food and service are excellent.

They serve gnocchi 3 ways. We opted for the creamy pesto sauce. The gnocchi was cooked to perfection and the sauce was out of this world.

We also had the chicken parmesan. This is a dish I cook at home and it's a big hit with the family, but I have to say that Buona Italia's sauce was so good, I wish I could replicate it.

For dessert we had home-made cannoli and it was probably the best we've had.

Our server, Arturo, was super friendly and helpful. I wanted to pull up a chair and invite him to join us.

“My friend and I went to brunch here avoiding the line at Lucho's and we were not disappointed. I had an eggplant sandwich which came with pickled veggies, and a side salad. My friend who trained as a chef had an omelette with a side of potatoes. The salad was generous. So were the potatoes. The sandwich was delicious and the omelette was well executed. (My chef friend said "it's good.") We sat in a booth while the place was empty on a Sunday and it was comfortable. I would definitely go back.

One recommendation: use an air fryer for the eggplant as it was a bit greasy. But it tasted great and I ate the whole thing.“

The suppli brought me back to nights in Rome sipping natty wine with my friends. The thin sliced veal with a sauce and capers was delicious! The fried shrimp, veggies and olives/anchovies…also with a sauce was awesome as well. For my main, I had CRESTE DI GALLO - semolina pasta - wild mushroom ragu - spinach - ricotta salata. Our waiter was the best! I saved one of the sugar cookies from my deserts…Burnt Carmel Gelato. Mentioned it to our waiter and as we were leaving, I heard “Sir! Sir!” He brought me one of their meringue cookies to also share with my partner! I thought that was just awesome! “This is one of my favorite restaurants on Clement street. The food is so good and they have lots of options to take home with you, and the actual environment is super pretty. The menu is fairly small, but it definitely makes it easier to choose what you want, I still have a hard time deciding between the few pasta dishes available. It's also really cool that they don't have tipping, so you pay what you see on the menu.“

We had the privilege of working with Vittorio and his team for our wedding, and they truly exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we started planning, they made the entire process so easy and stress-free. What stood out the most was how attentive they were to our guests’ dietary needs—nothing was too much trouble, and they went above and beyond to ensure everyone had delicious options to enjoy.

The food was nothing short of amazing. Our guests still can't stop talking about the tender short ribs, the flavorful chicken piccata, the rich and comforting lasagna, and the fiocchetti, which was simply out of this world. Every bite was incredible, and it made the dining experience unforgettable. The entire meal was an absolute hit with everyone!

On the day of the wedding, their team seamlessly handled everything. They executed a flawless transition between the ceremony and reception setups while simultaneously making sure the passed appetizers were flowing during cocktail hour. Their professionalism, combined with the incredible quality of food, made them a standout vendor (who became more like family). And on top of all of that, their pricing was beyond reasonable for the level of service they provided. We feel so fortunate to have had Vittorio and the Trattoria da Vittorio team be a part of our special day and highly recommend them to anyone looking for outstanding food and exceptional service. We will certainly be using them again in the future, and visiting the restaurant many more times with our friends and family!

Also, the restaurant is equally amazing! My now husband, friends and family can’t get enough. We got dinner here 2 days after our wedding and have many future plans with friends and family to continue to return.

Dietary restrictions: My sister has a Gluten Allergy and Vittorio was so accommodating, both at the restaurant and when he catered our wedding. Be allowed us to add a separate dish just for the few people that had allergies, and also made adjustments to some of the apps we got so they could have some too. It was awesome!“
