“Little hole in the wall/small Chinese food place. Ate here for lunch with my GF this past Sat. [no luncheon specials are offered on weekends - typical]. So, I had the wonton soup [large - more like a medium though]. Glad I didn't get a small, as the large was 11.95. The wonton were huge/dumpling-sized and were delish. The soup broth was rich and meaty/tasty. My GF had the cashew chicken and ordered steamed rice, which she said was good, for 13.95, plus 2.95 for the rice. Overall, a bit pricey [for the serving sizes] but worth it. The service was solid, as I asked for some chili paste and it was delivered promptly. I deducted for the size of the place and the table wasn't completely clean [table had a bit of a film on it]. If you're craving chinese food in HMB, this is the place.“

“On a Tuesday night 7pm, there is still 15 minute wait. This place is popular. You order off a QR code and the system supports multi user ordering for the same table. The skewers are tasty. I wish the skewers are spicier so next time I will put in an extra request. You get a birthday gift bag if you show your ID on the day of your birthday!“

“Have you ever had Fujian cuisine before? Now you can at Taste of Shaxian in San Mateo! All of the dishes were very simple, but surprised us with a lot of flavor! Whether you're a fan of dumplings or not, this place has good ones and a bunch of other must-try dishes all priced very reasonably. For 2 people, we ordered just enough to be comfortably full.
* Shaxian Wonton Soup
* Soup Dumplings Combo
* Spicy Cold Noodles (highly recommend!)
* Braised Chicken (bone in) Clay Pot w/ Rice (highly recommend!)“

“The seats in the restaurant are comfortable, the place is clean, and the waiters are attentive. It has a Hong Kong-style teahouse style, and the food is of average quality. The company's sandwich menu has a Hong Kong feel, including garlic fried chicken wings, baked pork chop rice, and stir-fried beef river. I think the milk tea doesn't have enough flavor, there is room for improvement. This is a restaurant I will visit again.“

“Been here since it opened — staff are always super kind and the food is consistently good. Never short of anything from your selection (vs the other newly opened Malatang place where they keep missing stuff and there are flies in the ingredients)“

“Super tasty! Shortly after I sat down for lunch they immediately served me a steaming cup of hot and sour soup that I polished off. I love it when food is served piping hot. Next came the Mongolian beef and noodles I ordered. I will just saw wow wow wow. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. This was probably the best Mongolian beef I have had. Hands down. Fantastic no frills lunch spot. The way good food is supposed to be. Can I say awesome again?!“

“The restaurant is located inside a plaza and there are a lot of parking spaces. We arrived there right after 6:00pm, and there were a few people waiting inside. After I put my name on the waitlist, we were able to get our table very quickly. We ordered the Sliced Beef & Ox Tripe in Chili Oil, Cucumber Salad, Chicken & Corn Dumpling in Chili Oil, Napa Cabbage & Pork Potstickers, Pork Xiao Long Bao, and Iced Assam Milk Tea. They served the food pretty quickly and all the staff were friendly. Those dumplings were freshly made by the chef because you could see the back with an open kitchen and watch them making all the dumplings. Dumplings and Xiao Long Bao tasted pretty good except the sliced beef and ox tripe and the drink was just ok. Highly recommended for the dumplings and Xiao Long Bao :)“

“Stopped by for lunch on a Saturday. The food was overall very flavorful, and spicy! We got the cauliflower dry pot, Fuqi Feipian, Dan dan noodles, and a lamb skewer.
One thing we appreciated was that the dry pots were smaller than most other restaurants we have been too (also cheaper) so you're able to order more dishes in one sitting, instead of the dry pot being enough for two people. The Dan dan noodles were technically not on the menu, but the owner/employee let us order it still.
Overall, highly recommend, a great restaurant with reasonable prices.“

“I had the shrimp, cod and chicken fried rice. First time I had shrimp w heads on, and it was very good. My favorite was the cod with tofu. The chicken fried rice was a little burnt so after tasting it I was sad I wasn’t able to enjoy this one. Over all I was happy with the service and fresh food.
Vegetarian options: Tried the green beans. They were fresh.“

“Delicious, authentic Chinese food in an unassuming, home style venue. The Peking Duck (need to pre-order) was very tasty, and the spicy noodles were well seasoned. All of the stir-fried dishes were cooked perfectly. Waitress was very attentive and efficient. Only downside is that there’s not a lot of parking, and be careful if you’re parking on the busy El Camino Real as many cars speed by without looking carefully.“

“I've been here many times in the past two or three years and it's always delicious! I must order the squirrel fish every time. I also like the lotus root sandwich, pearl meatballs, hot dry noodles and tofu skin. They are also delicious.“

“Handmade dumplings and noodles. Noodles were not as qq as I like but did have that nice uneven handmade texture. Tendons were soft but not as tender as I like. Broth was bland and very sesame oil-heavy. Xlb were decent (better than Shanghai Bun Dynasty, lol) but cooked on a cut-out piece of that rubbery plastic mesh shelf liner which I am 100% sure is not food-safe or heat-safe and that reason alone is enough not to come back at least not to dine in.
Their main business is selling frozen dumplings to make at home so I guess stick to that. We don't live close by enough to do that without pre-planning and bringing a cooler and maybe ice. I should have tried some sui gao to see if it's worth coming back with a cooler but FFY set the bar so high for sui gao (and everything else they made) that no other place can live up to it so I am always reluctant to try new sui gao.“

“If you want delicious Chinese food from a place that’s been in business for decades, this is the place you go.
It’s not fancy and some of the employees aren’t super friendly but some are, and the prices are affordable and the food tasty.
You’ll be happy you came!“

“Superb Shanghainese cuisine with modern twist. For instance, chilled cucumber with chili oil. Tang Yuan in micro size. All very good, reasonable portions, and not salty or greasy. Went there for dinner on Wed and returned for lunch the next day!“
“I got a Mongolian beef combo for takeout. Easily one of the best asian dishes I have had especially for that price. The rice was also excellent. The soup was not great but not a big deal for me.
The beef was excellent in quality and the flavor was amazing. I don’t know whether this is authentic or not. The dish was spicy but not unappetizing spicy.
Will certainly go there if I come back“
“Really legit Chinese! Had Mongolian chicken and shredded pork with tofu lunch specials. Comes with rice and hot and sour soup (which needs a bit more vinegar). The mains were very good. Glad my wife found this place while Yelping!Only take out until September or October according to the owner.“

“My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant on Thursday night, and it was a fantastic experience. During dinner, there were only about five tables occupied, making for a relaxed atmosphere. The decor is authentically Japanese, while the playlist had a chill vibe with American pop hits.
We ordered one sake and a few skewers, and I highly recommend trying the Beef Tongue—it’s incredibly tender and flavorful. The other BBQ skewers were also delicious.
Another highlight is the happy hour from 9:30pm to 11:30pm, where you can get buy-one-get-one-free beer.
Overall, I’d rate the food 5/5, drinks 4/5 (the sake was a bit strong for us), and the restaurant itself 5/5 for the ambiance and experience.“

“I love their fried rice very much. It reminds me of New York City Chinese food. I'm also a big fan of their beef chow fun and sweet and sour chicken. Delicious.
They have a tofu basil dish that's good for vegetarians.
They're also on DoorDash if you live on the peninsula near San Mateo.
Vegetarian options: I like their mushroom dishes and their tofu basil dishes. They are tasty for vegetarians.“

“What a treat! We ordered the Coconut Chicken, Green Beans (Spicy), Smoked Pork Fried Rice, and steamed egg. All the dishes were so delicious. The coconut chicken was prepared right at our table in a kind of “Melting Pot” sort of way which made for some exciting anticipation. Definitely worth a repeat trip.“

“Delicious and comforting noodle soup. If you don't know what to order, get the original soup. If you come during lunch, the lunch special is a good deal. It's exactly the same, but cheaper and it comes with a side. Some places will have smaller portions for their lunch deals, but this place does not. We ordered a soup separately to test and it turned out I could have saved three bucks and got a free side.“

“The fried beef river is very good and the seasonal vegetables in the soup are good. The portion is large.
The only drawback was that we were sitting near the fish pond, and while the chef was catching the fish, the fish flopped a few times and splashed water onto us who were eating. .“

“It is located in a plaza anchored by Marina market, a few banks and a bunch of small restaurants, a big plus since it is also next to a Tesla charging station. I come here a couple times a week for quick and simple HK cafe style food while I charge my car.
Highlights… They use their own blend of 5 different type of red tea leaves to make their signature milk tea, it is a must try. Very strong but silky. Their braised beef brisket is also very good, but yesterday I was trying to eat healthy and they made me a pan fried chicken breast with onions and broccoli. No carbs. Super friendly staffs.“

“First of all, to anyone reading this, I'm begging you, please try their Chongqing style chicken! It's one of the best Chinese fried chicken dishes you'll ever eat, and it's just insanely good. This restaurant is a hidden gem. They've been around for many years and have always had quality Chinese food, and the amazing thing is that it seems like they've upped their game since I ordered from them the last few times. Their selection is the best it's ever been, and the quality of the food is also better than ever. I'm just so impressed by the pride they take in what they do. This is my go-to spot to order from now whenever I'm in town, and I just wish this restaurant all the success in the world.“

“Yan gon is a family own Burmese restaurant on broadway Burlingame. The owner and the entire staff were extremely friendly , attentive , courteous . helpful, and welcoming . Their dishes are delicious . I have tried their Burmese Style Curry Lamb , Singapore Street noodles, Deep fried Chicken Wings , and Wor Wonton Soup. All four dishes were delicious, but my favorite is the won ton soup . This soup is perfect , it's so healthy and brothy. The broth is so rich that left a long lasting mouthwatering and coating sensation lingering in my tongue. The wontons are so tasty , juicy , and flavorful with the right amount of , I believe was pork , ginger , garlic ,chopped onions , sugar, salt , pepper , and shrimps . . The shrimps were very tastey and fresh . It didn't have that strange scent of ammonia or fishy smell like spoiled shrimps . The restaurant is simple , bright , clean , casual ambience with ample seatings. I have been here many times and got seated right away. No wait . This restaurant is a must try if you have the craving for Burmese food or just want to try something new.“

“- Kung pow tofu vegetable - great 9/10. Would have preferred a bit more tofu but good for the price.
Would be amazing to see some vegan options clearly labeled on the menu, with more plant based protein options like different mock meats!“
