“AMAZING, fresh, yummy, terrific vibe, not loud. So much funWait staff are extremely attentive. Good spot for a date, solo at sushi bar or smallish 4-8 group dining. Steet parking or $20 for secure lot next door.Vegetarian options: Everything“
“It was always pleasant to experience chef making your the nigiri in front of you.My favorite dish from the menu was:Honmaguro Toro Nigiri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Anago Nigiri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Kamasu Nigiri ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Hojicha Ice Cream ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Recommended to visit this restaurant to experience high quality Japanese cuisine!“
“We had a wonderful experience! The staff were professional, friendly, informative, and even helped cater to our specific dining needs as a family. A la carte extras (from same omakase menu) could be ordered and were every fairly priced. We would 100% recommend.“
“One of my favorite sushi experiences ever, and I've been to Japan. The service was so exceptional that I almost started to feel bad. The food was fresh, innovative, and incredibly fresh. The vibe and ambiance were great. 10/10 would highly recommend if you can afford it.“
“We have been to the Tane in Hawaii, so we wanted to try this one out. Everything about it was great. The food was delicious, the service was great, the atmosphere and ambiance was phenomenal. We ordered Gyoza, brussel sprouts, ramen, nigiri, and 5 different rolls... everything was delicious. All the employees were so nice and attentive.“
“My first visit to this new Kuma location. If you enjoy good sushi Kuma is the place to go in San Francisco. We go to Kuma every time I'm in San Francisco to see my daughter and I feel like the food and experience is better each time. I highly recommend the tuna collar. I've never had it anywhere else and it is awesome!“
“Ordered the Barley Taps roll and salmon, yellowtail, kinmedai, torched scallop nigiri. Enjoyed all of it! The quality of the fish was really good, my favorite being the kinmedai, ordering it twice.Walked in around 6pm on a Wednesday and there was space. Seems like a great neighborhood spot, not too uptight, but with quality Nigri.“
““Fusion” omakase. Expensive but very well executed, everything we were served was delicious. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar to get the full experience, our chefs at tables 9 and 10 were fun and engaging throughout service. The sake omakase was underwhelming, but YMMV, our drinks server was busy as he was serving the entire joint, on a different night, it might have been better.“
“Came here tonight for the restaurant week menu (the set dinner with 5 rolls and chocolate mousse dessert for ~$35 pre tax and tip) for the first time with a party of 2, and boy was it tasty!!! It did not disappoint. I also got a Hana G+T cocktail. The set menu included the cucumber sunomono starter, and the following 5 omaka-set (the OG): zuke maguro (tuna), negihama, salmon, black cod, and snow crab. Our total cost after tax and tip was $60 ish (cocktails are ~$12-15 each) Pros: - SUPER fast service. They had reservations for ~1 hour after we arrived but said if we ate quick we could sit and eat at a window table. The girl who served us also had very corny jokes which we enjoyed haha. - YUMMY HANDROLLS which are very worth it, the pieces of fish are pretty big. My ultimate favorite was the black cod with truffle oil, it was so unique and delicious! Each one was perfect, no cons. - I LOVE the pipet-able soy sauce!! It makes it very easy to get some soy sauce in your hand roll without having the whole thing fall apart when you try to dip it in a soy sauce dish - The Hana Gin and tonic had the perfect amount of alcohol in it (where you can taste it but it's not too strong), and it was such a beautiful looking purple drink too. Definitely a pleasant surprise - Great for parties of 2 since there's multiple tables that can seat 2, but if you have a bigger party it could be a longer wait - I thought the price was very appropriate, and the menu wasn't too overwhelming, very straightforward. Good bang for your buck - they give you way more fish than Kazu Nori in SoCal. - Decent amount of food in the set menu - I didn't feel stuffed, but I wasn't hungry after either. Honestly, no cons other than the fact that it may be hard to find parking nearby and you might have to walk a bit (but also very walkable from 19th st. BART). 10/10 will be back, what a great restaurant week intro! Everything was so beautifully presented too. I can't wait to come back and try the other omaka-sets.“
“Wow. An incredible omakase experience! Had the 18-course dinner, sitting at the chefs counter and I could not be more impressed by the quality and creativity of the food presented! Each course was distinct, delicious, flavorful, and there was nothing “basic” or “common” that was served. My favorites were the chawan-mushi, otoro, uni on uni, Hokkaido scallop and uni, Kyoto-style pressed saba, kelp-cured flounder fin… and more!A few minor critiques: the wagu sukiyaki was tender and delicious, but tasted too sweet. The miso soup was overly salty. And the yuzu sorbet had nice flavor but was served hard like an ice cube.Would definitely return to dine again. Recommended.“
“Truly for "Friends Only!" Ten seats at an "L"-shaped raw bar. Got to chat and share experiences with all the guests AND the staff. Made a lot of "Friends" tonight and got to share dining at its finest and food of superior quality and taste!“
“Best hidden secret. I have a hard time not visiting this place daily. There are so many options of rolls, rice bowls, and side dishes to-go. I believe most items are raw. Small amount of bon fish options rolls. Kids favorites are the avocado roll and California rolls There are a ton of Japanese snacks like pocky, shrimp chips, chocolate covered almonds, hi chews, wasabi peas a number of drinks. The staff are great, always friendly and have good recommendations . I've been visiting this place since they opened and every time I go they've got something new. Prices are right.“
“They have omakase, which I would very much recommend. It's one bite of everything, and the chef makes it right there. Don't worry, you'll be full by the end lolDietary restrictions: They ask you when about allergies and restrictions when you sit down so you'll be fine unless you have a seafood allergy“
“MUST visit omakase restaurant in San Francisco! This is a perfect omakase restaurant that deserves a rating higher than five stars. Our chef is incredibly passionate and friendly, and the service staff are also very accommodating. The overall dining atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing.Everything was handled perfectly and the seasoning of seafood, allowed us to taste the natural sweetness of the ingredients. It's a truly amazing dining experience! Would definitely revisit again!“
“Love love love this place, our go to and our happy place Always leave so satisfied and feeling good! The chef has his own specials on the menu that you won't find in other places. Everything is always fresh and clean. Jackie puts so much heart into his food here. See you there“
“Love the Omakase here and come back any time budget allows. The chef and staff are engaging if you want to chat, or happy to leave you alone and let you enjoy your meal.Dietary restrictions: Share ahead of time and (within reason) the chef will accommodate. Obviously not compatible with highly restrictive diets.“
“Walked in to the quiet and unassuming location and left sated and with an overly full belly!I began with a spicy tako salad - a perfect mix of tako, cucumber, seawead and a sprig of mint. Enough spice to feel for a few minutes afterwards while my sushi was being prepared.First up was a trio of Salmon belly, Hamachi belly, and Toro. Each one was more delicated and delicious than the previous. Next were two great pieces of Ama Ebi with perfectly fried heads. The Sexy Roll followed - a mixture of Hamachi and avacado topped with more Hamachi, Green tobiko and jalapeno. My desert round was Mackerel, Scallop, and the Buddhilicous Roll. The service was exceptional and the value for what I paid was outstanding. My only negative was self-inflicted and that's because I only found this spot on my last free evening in town.I'll be back for sure...“
“Ordered pickup online but accidentally ordered to the other location. They were super kind and remade the order for me here. They even called the other location to confirm my order because I couldn’t find my email. Can’t wait to go back!“
“First time at Rocket Sushi.I had the Tonkatsu Curry at my friend's recommendation and it was delicious. My friend ordered the udon and ate every bit.Service was good. We dined on a Monday so the atmosphere was pretty mellow and everyone seemed to be having a good time.Would definitely go back.“
“We came here for late night dinner - fresh sashimi is 10 out of 10 ?Vegetarian options: I saw some vegetarian options on the menuParking: It’s always plenty of parking around or cross streetKid-friendliness: Yes, big dining room and I saw high chairs for little kids tooWheelchair accessibility: Yes, they have big dining room so wheelchair can move freely and bathroom is also big and it’s ok for wheelchair“
“Both the main dish and the side dish are a sure-fire meal every time. I was surprised that the restaurant was empty this time, even though it is difficult to make a reservation. This is the extent of the impact of people not coming to downtown SF. I have to support you!“
“The atmosphere is extremely elegant, the fish is high quality and well prepared and presented. I have been to over 30 sushi restaurants in the city of SF and Otoro Sushi is literally the best quality sushi experience you can get for the price. The service is always pleasant. I cannot compliment this restaurant enough.Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are on par in quality and artisanal skill with the fish dishes. One of the only places where the vegetarian rolls feel like a real consideration rather than an afterthought. I take all my vegetarian friends here. The futomaki and the pickles are a highlight. I genuinely get the futomaki over fish rolls sometimes.“
“Extraordinary quality of fish, attention to detail with service, and surprising value for money. The sake list was extensive and varied, this nigiri expertly seasoned, and some of the best sashimi I've had in California. Will be coming back (again and again).“
“It is safe to say that my mission to find the best chicken teriyaki in the city of SF has been accomplished. Ike's chicken is grilled and has the charred consistency and taste to it. Their chicken is juicy, tender, and NOT slimey. This, along with their sauce, their salad, their miso soup, and even their asparagus, makes this a divine dining experience. Ike's Japanese Kitchen is an SF gem ? ✨️ <3“
“Need to go back. Arrived and saw the sign on door said closed. Waved through the glass at worker inside, he came and opened the door and welcomed us in. Regardless of the fact it said “reservations only” on the door, because there was only one other party eating, I think he was okay with us dining. The entire operation was one man whose service and food was simple and satisfying. No frills. For the price is it unbeatable. Atmosphere feels like you found a small sushi spot in a corner of Tokyo. Really great experience.“
“I really like the sushi rolls and the calm atmosphere at Sumo. Hot tea and miso soup to start on a rainy evening. It was my first time having the GoGo roll, with shrimp, avocado, cucumber and DF asparagus... give it a try! The baked scallop roll is a warm savory treat as well.“
“Incredible sushi!I am super critical about my food choices - especially sushi. It's truly my comfort food after a long day or when I want to relax so choosing the perfect place is important. I always fear that the sushi quality may not be fresh or the rolls that the restaurant makes are way too saucy and not appetizing but Sushi Chef blew my expectations out of the water.I went with the Lion King roll and the Rainbow roll both of which were 10/10. *Disclaimer: I am celiac so choosing gluten-free rolls is very important.* I called the restaurant to ask for what substitutions I should make and the lady that answered was SO kind and so helpful. She informed me that I should go ahead and order anything I'd like and the chef will ensure that there's no gluten. They even packed a special container of gluten-free soy sauce and spicy mayo.If you're looking for a sushi place and confused with the hundreds of options on DoorDash, Uber Eats, etc. - just do yourself a favor and stop the search.. order Sushi Chef now.◡̈“
“We had such a fabulous experience last night on our first visit to Elephant Sushi. The food is amazing--innovaative, delicious and presented so beautifully. We had the flaming sea bass (of course!) Be sure to order that. Also Hamachi kama (collar), salmon miso soup, albacore tatami, Walu Sashimi. The fish is unbelievably fresh! We can't wait to go back to try other dishes. Our server and our hostess were lovely, incredibly helpful and attentive. And the ambience was special--plenty of large windows with light and air and a fresh decor with vibes of fishing boats. All in all, a really wonderful evening that we will repeat many times. Don't miss this place!“
“We have been going to Kotobuki for the last eight years. This place is not only delicious, but all staff goes above and beyond to take care of everyone. Outstanding service! Delicious food! We are always looking forward to going. Recommending it to all our friends! Please stop by and support this wonderful business!“
“The food here was amazing! Highly recommend. We came in for a late seating so it wasn’t overly busy. The maki rolls were very unique and extremely delicious. Get the bluefin tuna sashimi, this is the best dish I’ve had at any sushi restaurant.“
“Sat at the bar and really enjoyed the drinks and the food, along with the view. Service was great, and it was fun exploring their creative cocktail list. The Lomo Saltado roll and the fries were fantastic. I've been here a couple of times now....highly recommended!“
“We have been to Nakama Sushi twice now, and we have enjoyed both of our visits. Especially the one with our server Benjamin ! Benjamin provides excellent service; always checking on how we are doing, very upbeat with a great personality and attentive no matter how busy he is. The food is delicious and the fish is fresh ! We enjoyed everything we ate here. We always make reservations since it's a small place. It's a great dinner idea before catching a show nearby. It is a nice little gem in the theater district.“
“I'd give this place a 4.5 star if Google allowed me. I came by with a coworker for dinner this past Friday. We arrived at the restaurant a little after 6pm, and were a little surprised that the restaurant was fully empty. It was a rainy day, so that may have contributed. We got seated and ordered some miso soup, edamame, hot sake, the serious nigiri combination platter, and a black & white roll. The miso was alright, a tiny bit light on taste. The edamame was well boiled, with a generous sprinkling of salt on top. The nigiri platter contained 12 pieces, and the fish all tasted fresh. The roll was also well made, with Yellowtail and tempura shrimp.Overall, this was a nice little restaurant if you want a low key and quiet dinner, with good quality fish and well made rolls.“
“AMAZING vegetarian & vegan restaurant!!(⁎⁍̴̛ᴗ⁍̴̛⁎)❤️?I’ve been wanting to visit this place since my second year in Berkeley, and I’m glad I finally did!You can tell they made their food with great care and the ingredients are yummy and fresh! The staff are very nice; the vibe inside is clean and chill. This is a great place for you to hang out with a small group of friends or come alone to recharge your mental health (I mean seriously, their food is tasty, healthy, and pretty!)I’d definitely come back very often to try out all other creative cuisines! “
“great place for classic japanese! they have a wide variety of options, covering sushi, udon, and various hot dishes & dons. highly recommend the saba shioyaki (salt grilled mackerel) for a classic japanese breakfast vibe. the karaage and tofu agedashi were also really good.“
“Great little sushi place. It's a hidden gem. Ever since I stumbled upon this place, it has been my go to sushi joint. I've eaten sushi all over the bay area. Only a handful of those I would rate it 5 stars. This is one of them in that area. If you are into just rolls like 95% of the people then everywhere is about the same. But if you enjoy nigiri, sashimi and traditional Japanese food then don't pass up on this place.“
“The service was good, but more than anything, the sushi and Japanese ramen were very delicious. It tasted much better than we expected. However, I think the atmosphere would have been better if the location had been in a more prosperous place.“
“This is such a hidden gem and perfect late night dive spot (in a good way)! It’s giving Dave the Diver (iykyk). We came around 11pm on a Friday night and were greeted by ALL the staff when we walked in, as if we were old friends. The service was prompt and sushi is fun and delicious! I recommend experimenting— I loved the pokemon roll!At add to that, the atmosphere was so cool and authentic and the live DJ was killing it! I was searching for the dance floor.10/10 would recommend and will be back.“
“I almost don’t want to tell you about how good the sushi is here. Fish so fresh you’d think we’re by the port. And the baked muscles…. A must try. They literally melt in your mouth. & I have not had friendlier, more welcoming service anywhere…. Not to mention the lower east-side NY vibe inside. This is how a neighborhood sushi joint should be. Thank you for some of the best bites around.“
“Some of the best sushi I’ve had, especially the salmon nigiri and lion king roll. Such big portions of fish. Not to mention the bowl was also a screaming deal for the amount of food you get and it’s so custom! Also came with some gluten free people and they were very “
“Best chicken I've ever tasted must get the fried chicken and gyoza appetizer that comes yum yum sauce?? I had a beef short rib and teriyaki salmon bento box. The other two got the millionaire tonkotsu and the miso soup. The only reason I took one star out for the atmosphere was because the music was too loud where we were sitting.“
“honestly great spot for what it is. if you're expecting really bourgeois top of the line stuff, nah. the inside feels very corner sushi spot with lots of tables, a sushi bar, and the wait staff is super nice. there's also a small parking spot nearby that is great if you're driving since it's on piedmont which is a bit difficult to find parking and is a bustling street. we got the flaming dragon roll and a spicy scallop roll. both were honestly great, and the waiter was super helpful and quick. the prices were a bit more expensive than what I was used to but great nevertheless“
“I recently had the pleasure of trying Kitchen Aloha for the first time, and I was very impressed. The food was fresh, delicious, and authentically Japanese. I ordered the udon noodles (Ramen noodles with meat, naruto sliced fish cake, broiled veggie, cooked whole egg, and meat broth soup base) which was cooked perfectly and served with a generous portion of meat. The Undon noodles was flavorful and complex, with a variety of textures and flavors that kept my taste buds entertained. The restaurant has a wide variety of dishes to choose from, so there is something for everyone.Overall, I was very happy with my experience at Kichen Aloha. The food was excellent, the service was friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese meal.“
“The options are almost overwhelming, but everything I had was delicious. You can’t go wrong with any of those choices. I had the hijiki salad, carrot and ginger soup, potato croquettes, and pork tonkatsu. There was a long line at lunch time, but it moves fast. The portions you receive are very generous. I’d love to come back and try more things.“
“Saru Handroll provided a delightful dining experience with an array of handroll sushi options, including Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, and Cucumber & Plum. The miso soup, edamame, and hot buckwheat tea complemented the meal perfectly in a stylish, modern setting.Noteworthy were the pre-meal wet tissue towels, a thoughtful touch for cleaning our hands after savoring the handroll sushi. However, it’s important to note that the set menu did not allow for substitutions. Minus one star off - as the sets have crab and shrimp; no sub-options available for people with seafood allergies.Despite this, Saru Handroll proved to be a charming spot suitable for various occasions, whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or gathering with friends and family. I recommend it for both the flavors and the ambiance.“
“Asaka is a delightful addition to the North Berkeley restaurant scene! The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and the owner generously donated a few platters of sushi ? to the Japanese American Experience event we held last month at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Come check it out!Vegetarian options: Honestly, I don't know if there are main dishes for vegetarians, but their edamame was delicious!Kid-friendliness: I think children would enjoy the food here.“
“I can't believe this place is in Orinda. It is an experience for sure, and be prepared to spend money if you go. Wonderful small sushi place owned by a husband and wife. It's traditional style and no chopsticks or rolls. The wife explains the sushi to you and it was so interesting. As others have said, you must make reservations as they only seat a couple of tables a night. We had the sake sampler and I highly recommend, especially if you're not familiar with sakes. The menu is fixed, no choosing and they bring you what's on their menu for the night. It started with the 18 piece and then you have the option to continue, we each had the 26 piece. The sauces, etc were all homemade and they tell you which ones you can use soy sauce with or not. Everything was delicious. It's definitely a hidden gem for special occasions.“
“Best suishi on the island! The kaisin don was excellant. The quality and variety of fish does not disappoint. Sea bream, halibut, uni, golden eye snapper and don't miss out, try the wagyu nigiri! Service is wonderful. I spent $75 for dinner, but I can eat alot of fish. You can definitely get out the door cheaper and still well fed.“
“This is a great place to get dinner before hitting your favorite bars on Polk. They had the freshest, tastiest sashimi! We got the Spoon Set A, I dont even know what 4 fishes they were but they were all great. Even my friend who doesnt particularly like slimy things enjoyed them. We also got the monkfish liver, toro handrolls, victoria secret roll and the spicy tuna roll.Plus, the waitress was so nice - they were fine with accomadating no cucumbers in our rolls. We came on a rainy Saturday evening so there was about a 5-10 minute wait to get seated - if you add your name to the waitlist on yelp beforehand I'm sure you wouldn't have to wait.“
“Delicious food. Amazing service. And great portions. We got the poke bowls; they were great!! We also got the 3 amigos special roll, green tea, miso soup, and salmon nigiri. All amazing!! Our server was nice, quick, and very attentive. Always making sure our tea was hot and we were well covered. A couple outdoor tables, and a good amount of indoor. Tons of take out action. They have cool purple rice as a signature. And the fish was very tasty! Highly recommend. There is a good sized parking lot next to the restaurant. Just be sure to park with caution; the neighboring Ace hardware brings a lot of turn over of large work trucks that have some challenges with the parking lot. This is a great spot!!Vegetarian options: Tons of veg optionsDietary restrictions: Tons of veg optionsParking: Street parking and a lot both free!Kid-friendliness: Yes!Wheelchair accessibility: A bit tight, but I believe it is Ada compliant“
