“I have dined at a fair number of sushi restaurants in America as well as some of the finest in Tokyo. Kuma distinguishes itself by having served me the best Chirashi Bowl (I had the Chirashi Deluxe), that I have had in my life. What made the bowl better than some good ones I’ve had was not only the excellent fish on top… but the thoughtfully composed bottom of purple rice with tasty nuggets of egg, soybeans, pickled cucumber, braised tofu, sliced lemon, and tobiko. It was SO GOOD. So if you love Chirashi, or just love thoughtfully prepared sushi, this is THE PLACE!“

“Akiko's at the Avery is my favorite spot in SF. Not just sushi. Favorite overall. I cannot wait to see what else Chef Ray and the team have been cooking up for us. I have a feeling a new location will be full of some deliciousness coming our way .... It's high end. It's quite space. It's perfect for a date night as well as business lunch. No other place in SF compares to Akiko's at the Avery...“

“All the food looks amazing! Unfortunately, a most of the fishes on the nigiri was kind of tasteless so it's hard to distinguish between the pieces. I didn't like the fish eggs because it was slightly fishy - this might be my personal palette though. The eel with avocado and cucumbers was really tasty.
Note, I suggest looking at what you're purchasing because the fish pieces might slightly differ in size. And for the price your paying, you probably want the bigger pieces like how I would.“

“I think this could make a fun date spot.
I thought the sets were reasonably priced, but maybe it’s because I’m comparing it to SF pricing.
Every bite was great, but I think next time I’ll ask for less rice or maybe even none.“

“Great sushi, perfectly prepared and presented. So glad I walked a few more blocks to go there. Small with a very friendly staff (my 2 Buddhi’s) made for enjoyable experience. Come to town at least once a year; plan to be back.“

“The best sushi place in the city!! Quality of food is 10 out of 5......“
“Wow!
I just went for date night with my daughter (back from college) and had the best sushi in the Bay Area!!!
The Omakase was superb!!! The highlight was hamachi with truffle and the unagi was the best I’ve ever tasted.
We also had the lion king (because which was “just right”!
Our server was terrific - she recommended the chef special, Ika Sugata (Grilled whole Squid with Jalapeño & Mango 🤩)
We also got the delicious Garlic Edamame and took an order of Matcha Tres Leche to go.
It wasn’t “cheap” but it was soooo worth it!!!
We will be back!“

“The handrolls were absolutely delicious. The staff were very attentive and the food came out quickly. There was enough variety to incentivize you to try the different options, but not so much that you would get overwhelmed. We went during happy hour and were very pleased with the experience. The restaurant is not very big, but it was not busy during our visit.“

“An astonishing 18-course omakase, expertly prepared, sourced in the finest sushi chef tradition of impeccable quality.
Warm and comfortable welcome with a happy-to-share chef who told us stories about his choices in making what has to be one of the finest Japanese experiences stateside.
Tiny space, superbly arranged.
I cannot recommend it enough. Not cheap but value for money if you struggle to “have something you’ve never had anywhere else” (and don’t want the 9+ hour Tokyo flight).“

“Been coming here for over 20 years. My absolute favorite sushi bar in SF. Do you want to be social with loud music and rainbow rolls? Then don’t come here. Do you want authentic sushi with only the best of the best fish? This is your place.“

“Nigiri combo is excellent! I can’t wait to try the sashimi combo next. I came just before they were closing for lunch and people were steadily coming either to pick up or eat-in up until their closing time. It seemed they were regular customers who are keeping this place a secret and happy to say, I am on it already. Can’t wait to go back.“

“The food was nice. Very tasty. I like when there is a sampler platter on sushi menus so you can let the chef pick. They had 6 of these and a sushi bowl. I went with combo A. I was pleased with the choice. They have the Kurosawa Kimoto sake here. I love thise stuff. I get the 300ml. I'd get the 720, but the fiance would probably be critical of that decision.“

“I've been many times and always enjoy the food. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary today, so in my reservation request I asked if they could play our song after we got there. Without saying anything to the staff about it when we arrived, the song came on a little after we were seated. We both teared up a bit; it surprised me how something so simple could feel so special. Thank you Tane staff. Also, always get the cheesecake; take it to go if you're full.“

“Needed a quick but healthy dinner after a long day of travel. We opted for sushi and Sushi Toni was well rated and right around the corner. Turned out to be a low key place with friendly service and good non-fancy sushi. Tried the Saba and Hamachi nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, one of the baked sushi options and salads & miso soup. All were good!“

“This place is incredible in food, service, and atmosphere. Such amazing quality fish and delicious dishes.
My favorite was their hand rolls and the hirame usuzukuri (like a carpaccio). Even their green tea was made well, not bitter at all - so smooth. I dont think you could get anything wrong here.“

“Lovely little hole-in-the-wall in an unassuming spot. Fish is very fresh, cut in generous slabs, and reasonably cheap.
Wouldn't really recommend dining in, since there are only a few tables and students / delivery drivers are constantly coming in and out; however, table service is offered, and the owners will make your order fresh.“

“Yonsei Handrolls consistently impresses with food that is clean, focused, and exceptionally well executed. The handrolls highlight ingredient quality above all else. Fresh fish, well seasoned rice, and crisp nori come together in a way that feels intentional and balanced. Nothing is overdone, and each bite delivers clarity of flavor. It is the kind of food that reflects confidence in technique and sourcing rather than excess. A standout spot when you want handrolls that are precise, fresh, and deeply satisfying.“

“Sushi Chef is my favorite sushi spot and the only place I order from regularly. The fish is always incredibly fresh, the quality is consistently excellent, and I’ve never been disappointed.
They’re also fantastic about accommodating my gluten allergy, which gives me a lot of confidence ordering from them. It’s my go-to recommendation whenever friends or family are visiting from out of town, and I’m just as happy dining there solo.
A true local favorite that never misses.“

“Small shop with warm food and an open fridge section of sushi. There was also a wall of snacks. Prices are very reasonable. No verbal communication which I think is fine but the woman dropped my packed sushi upside down and then tossed it into a bag. Sushi rice was a bit too hard for my liking.“

“I enjoyed coming here. All the servers are really cool and casual. It's definitely like a little bit of a party environment in this restaurant - everyone is just having a good time. The sushi is good. The head chef was really awesome and just came to our table various times and explained what he was doing. He was serving us and it's just a really great vibe. They have an $11.99 all-you-can-drink special, so $11.99 per person. I'll definitely be coming back. They also have this weird robot thing, so the service is super fast despite only being one or two servers for the whole restaurant. I think I'll definitely be coming back and maybe even hosting a party here or something like that.“

“Loved the food, I got the prime rib steak teriyaki and the mango ice cream. Service was great and waitresses were very friendly. Atmosphere was great, I love the light fixtures. Music was a little loud, though. I’d prefer jazz or an instrumental track over lyrical music.“

“This was our first time here and I placed an to go order. Walked right in and was quickly greeted and placed my order with the friendly worker. I ordered a caterpillar roll, Fortune roll, Giants roll and a Sake avocado making roll. Everything was delicious and I want to return and try so other items. Beware parking is extremely difficult to find when I arrived around six pm.“

“This hole in the wall has sushi with fluffy warm rice, thick slices of fresh fatty fish, fresh avocado and lemons, and yummy ginger. I recommend the 49er role. I’ve had way more expensive sushi that was not this good. Classic restaurant sushi can be cold and stiff, this is way better. The couple who runs the store are kind and good cooks.“

“This is a great little place to have sushi for lunch. I ordered a salmon teriyaki box and there was a generous portion of salmon, rice, salad, and veggies. My husband had a sushi box and said that it was very good. The prices are reasonable considering the location. The restaurant's very small so there's not much seating but it's possible to use a couple of picnic tables outside.“

“Very friendly and helpful owner. But the poke bowl, man. I’ve had poke bowls across the country - this one is the first I’ve had feel homemade. A new but delicious experience for me. Definitely my go to spot now. Portions were awesome too!“
“Two words: GOLDEN CRUNCH! This is one of their specialty rolls that is absolutely something I could eat once or twice a week!
Overall, the food is beautifully presented and in generous portions, and the wait staff is extremely kind and attentive. We have been fans of the original location in Kensington, and we are glad that they are able to expand and serve the greater community.“

“I’m adding a star for Yoki after another great visit. I went again for the all‑you‑can‑eat option and was pleasantly surprised by how fresh the sashimi and nigiri were. The tuna especially was top notch.
This time I tried a few more rolls, and the Heaven Roll really stood out — spicy tuna spread over the top with salmon and sashimi inside. It was the spiciest tuna I’ve ever had, and it lived up to its name.
Service is excellent here. I love their ordering system with iPads at the table — perfect for all‑you‑can‑eat since you can order a little at a time. They do lock you out briefly between orders, but for two people it wasn’t an issue. Waters were always refilled, and it’s easy to request the check right from the iPad.
Both times I’ve been here, my son and I finished every bite on the table. No complaints at all. I’d like to try some of their cooked dishes next time — the tempura, kama, and mini udon bowls looked delicious — but the sashimi, nigiri, and rolls are so good we haven’t had room yet.
Overall, Yoki continues to impress. Fresh fish, great service, and a fun ordering system make it a spot worth coming back to.“

“This was the first time my husband and I ever heard of this restaurant. We were a little worried about coming in as the closing time was only about 30 minutes after we arrived. We were welcomed and sat immediately. The Nigiri was absolutely amazing for AYCE. The pricing was decent for two people. Sure the rolls are smaller but it makes sense for an AYCE establishment. The service was pretty good just a very minor issue of waiting between orders but that is understandable.
I highly recommend this place should you have the urge to eat 45 pieces of nigiri 🤣“

“Cool sushi spot, atmosphere was very chill. I was pretty much the only one eating at the time. Sashimi was good, the 49er roll wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be but this pace was still great. Staff was very courteous and the food came really fast. They also give you large portions. You'll get full fast at this spot.“

“Very clean, excellent menu with very creative rolls. The nigiri 🍣 sushi is fresh and the best I’ve had to date. Personable, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Japanese beers are on point, cold and priced right. This a “locals favorite” which feels very welcoming and the freshness will be bringing me back. Cheers!“

“I came here with my friends while we were on a field trip and the atmosphere was super cozy, they had good R&B playing and it was lowkey aesthetic. I had the dragon roll, my friend had the sushi bae roll and we both shared the philly roll. We really liked the sushi and we finished it super fast. The staff was super sweet and super awesome, then when they told us about the pictures that they took for their poloroid wall, my friends and I were super excited. We had a really nice experience here and it was very hospitable. I will definitely be back when I have my next field trip in Oakland. Loved it!“
