We were traveling from Utah and were in that town accidentally. We wandered in to the closest restaurant nearby and were not at all prepared for how nice this was. Even though we were not looking our best from a long day on the road, we were treated kindly and even had nice conversation with the owner.
This is now on our must list EVERY time we come to California!“

“We were pleasantly surprised and loved this little restaurant! We originally came to Chinatown to eat at the other famous place down the street from here, but there was a 2 hour wait there and we needed to eat and get going to the Dodger game! That’s when Google came to the rescue and we found Jade Wok!! We ordered fried rice, chow mein, spare ribs, kung-pow chicken, house beef and all were very delicious!! We are forever happy customers and will continue to come back! The owner and her son served us and were very attentive!“

“Had a yummy dinner with great service in a lovely setting. We love the hot and sour soup here and the lemon yuzu scallops are my absolute favorite! Love the beef rolls and the cauliflower dish too. Truffle xiao long bao are so fragrant and yummy! Everything is always delicious. The sticky rice drinks are so good too! One of my fav toppings anywhere! Always a delicious meal.“

Now, if you are curious enough about my "rating scheme", here's "the moment of truth. I am a music photographer who has traveled the world with the world's greatest musical talents (Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Rammstein, to name a few) for almost 40 years. When being asked "Where do you live" I tended to ask "in hotels". At my peak, I "shot" 250 shows a year. Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say, and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by. While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked at how people use their "power of the word" to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all-time favorite restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French place does, as I may add). Or I just read "Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish." Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers boxed to take home? As a dog owner, I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "You give over-salted food to your dog? Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea... I hope you agree.So If I had a say on this portal, I would offer just to see the ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this does not correspond to "The Ritz". At first, I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceed my expectations. Four, if I am sure I will come back. To achieve five stars, I must be willing to take a detour of thirty minutes or more to go again. Thank you for reading this.“

“I came for the beef noodle soup and wasn't disappointed. The broth was rich and comforting, while the beef was tender enough to cut with a spoon. “I’m back at this xiao long bao spot in Baldwin Park again! The restaurant has that super down-to-earth, old-school Chinese restaurant feel that instantly feels familiar. The main point is — they’ve been making xiao long bao in LA for years, and everything is still handmade by the aunties, not pre-made. If you want a giant crab roe soup dumpling, this is the place I think of!
The giant crab roe soup dumpling comes out steaming hot and is seriously huge — it almost fills the whole steamer 🤣. I like to slowly sip the soup through a straw first, then open it up and eat the rest. The crab roe flavor is rich and fragrant, and it’s so satisfying while it’s still hot. Even editing the video made me crave it again!
We also ordered crab roe xiao long bao and sweet-style pork xiao long bao. The wrappers are thin and there’s plenty of soup inside. The slightly sweet pork filling feels very Jiangnan-style, and I personally really like that little touch of sweetness.
The Wuxi-style pork ribs looked so appetizing too — tender meat with a sweet, savory sauce that goes perfectly with rice. The Liangxi crispy eel was another specialty I really liked. It’s crispy, fragrant, and super snackable — not something you see at every restaurant.
For something warm and comforting, we also had a bowl of five-spice beef rice noodles, with your choice of spicy or non-spicy, plus a plate of garlic pea shoots to round out the meal.
I also noticed they have these cute little training chopsticks 🥢, which are perfect for kids or anyone who’s still learning how to use chopsticks. Such a thoughtful touch haha.
Whenever I suddenly crave crab roe in LA, this is honestly one of the first places that comes to mind 🥹“

“On September 27, 2024 I had my takeout food, orange chicken, cashew shrimp with coconut and their eggrolls. The amount of awesome food was three times the normal any other restaurant. “The service was COMPLETELY unacceptable. An employee was rude, speaking in a language I can’t recognize and started yelling at me simply because I didn't understand what she was trying to say. Why get angry and keep screaming when customers don't understand? This business is located in LA—if an obvious communication barrier happens, staff should try to bridge it instead of continuing to yell in the same language at a confused customer. I can't believe I was treated this way. Do we now need to learn EVERY LANGUAGE ON EARTH just to get basic service?“

“Been coming here for as long as I can remember - I suppose as long as this iteration has existed. The H.Way Frontier is a place you’re introduced to early on if you’re below the line film crew in Burbank running with a rigging or art dept./set Dec crew. This storefront carries on the tradition as I’ll often bump into fellow industry crew here.
All that stuff is well and good but the real reason we congregate here is THE FOOD. There are other good Chinese restaurants in LA but this place to me is by far the best. Consistently wonderful, delicious, very good portion sizes and a nice menu variety. It’s quick (15 minutes or less) and the lunch specials are a great deal. I’m not usually this gushy about anything but Frontier Wok Too deserves every bit of praise I can throw at it. If my family is in the mood for Chinese Food there’s only one choice for us and that is right here. With no traffic it’s still a 20 minute drive one way but it’s worth every minute once we’re sitting down to eat it. You can’t go wrong at Frontier Wok Too. If you haven’t tried it you simply must and you can be the judge.“

“I googled "best Chinese in LA" and then this popped up as the #1 place. So we drove - and had a very good meal. However, if you expect the classic Chinese dishes, you will be disappointed. This is Shezuan, "a different animal". So no rice, no sweet-and-sour-this-and-that. So be prepared for very spicy Szechuan food. Noodles. No rice. Try the dumplings, they were delicious. We ordered mild (1 out of 5 spice degrees) and we were burning inside (we had two separate orders of dumplings - but spice grade 1. There is no consistency, so be careful). So if spicy is what you are "in" for, you'll love it. The ambiance is sort of authentic ;-) - the sign on how to use the toilet (outside the restaurant in the alley) says more than words. But then, it was $100 all-in for the four of us only. My advice: I could barely understand the service language. Better check the menu before you go. As we were first-timers, I wanted to share three starters and three mains among the four of us and leave it up to the waitress to make us explore - she did not understand. I asked if they served beer. The answer was "noodles or dumplings". :-)“

“Celebrated the last day of burger month. Loved the vargas burger great service, place was free of delivery services, just people serving people and all were happy. Fries were outstaning and even better with condiments such as malt vinegar and mustard gochujang, which i didnt even know existed ... Put that and soy sauce on the fries. “We ordered the sauerkraut fish and the portion size was huge. It was more than enough for two people, and we still had a lot of leftovers to take home. The flavor was really good--savory, tangy, and comforting without being overwhelming.
We also tried the quail eggs, which were battered and fried. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and honestly super tasty. Perfect little bite-sized snacks.
Overall, great portions, solid flavors, and definitely worth it if you're hungry or want leftovers for later. Would come back again!“

“Tried Vege Valley Restaurant recently and honestly it was a good surprise. I’m not even strictly vegetarian but the food was really flavorful and fresh. Ordered noodles and a veggie dish both were well cooked and not too oily, which I liked.
The place is simple perfect for a relaxed meal. Service was quick and staff were polite. Pricing also feels reasonable for the portion size.
Only small issue was parking, took a bit of time to find a spot. But overall definitely worth visiting if you want healthy and tasty veg food.“

“Array 36 is a solid choice for high end Chinese food in Los Angeles. While most of the dishes are Shanghainese, there are many good choices from other cuisines, including Peking duck.
