My preference is for the 7:17 (give or take) omakase at the bar followed by a night meeting around a square or round table. Each person has two people to talk to at the bar (Me - Jeff- Elon - Mark - Lauren - Priscilla - Sergey- - Larry - Larry - plus 4 additional guests if others can attend - Camelia Me 12 Camelia Typically my wife returns home early by Lyft or Uber but I stay out later and sometimes overnight in Woodside at a suitable location.“

You definitely have to try the grilled rice ball, the beef with apple onion steak sauce, and the maguro-don (tuna) tray. The flavors were so unique and unlike anything I've had before. I’ve eaten here many times over the years, and one thing that always makes me happy is the consistency. The food is always fresh, well prepared, and delicious. You can come back again and again and know you’re going to have a great experience.

Everyone who works here, from the owners and managers to the kitchen staff and the sushi bar team, is extremely friendly, organized, and professional. The sushi bar is always clean, and you can tell the team really takes pride in what they do. The prices are also very reasonable for the quality of the food.

They have a sushi train going around the bar area in the center! The jewel is the service. The chef, the server, and the owner John all came to check on us and chat with us! “Some of the best California-omakaze style I’ve had. The fish quality is absolutely top notch. Some of the more creative “California” dishes are fantastic and some are a bit of a miss.

On one of my visits here there was a strong soapy detergent smell throughout the restaurant. This put a real damper on the experience.“

“Diner Japonica is a hidden gem. The menu consists spectacular authentic Japanese dishes. Since the pandemic, they only do takeout, but the food is great and the portions are generous. Our family favorites are Katsu Curry Chicken, Oyakodon, and the Bento boxes (2 and 3 item). Give them a call - you'll be glad you did!“

“Amazing meal, one of the few places for authentic kaiseki in the bay area. Very delicate flavors and intricately crafted. The zensai in particular was exquisite, grilled kamasu with egg yolk sauce was absolutely delicious and had me scraping off every bit of sauce from my plate. Some very unique dishes and flavor combinations I've not seen elsewhere too (peach tempura).

Service was very warm and attentive. Ambiance also very quiet and relaxing. Stepping in feels like being transported to Japan. Menus are truly seasonal too, will definitely be back!“

“The restaurant has an unobtrusive storefront, and opens at the start of the single seating dinner service. The evening’s guests are comfortably seated in a single row at the counter, where we can see the finishing touches applied to each dish, and the team gives helpful descriptions and background context for the dishes.

This was an exceptional dining experience, each course was prepared thoughtfully with vibrant flavorful ingredients, artfully arranged and appealing to all the senses. Portioning was just right, to where you leave satisfied but not over-full. We tried a couple of the drinks, and the fizzy peach sake cocktail with a hint of shiso was superb. The sake offerings were also very smooth.

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone with a hearty appreciation for good food. Conversely, picky or demanding children would be best left at home. I saw the team try to handle such a situation with patience and kindness, but I don’t think either side of that interaction enjoyed it. It should go without saying that an exquisite set menu prepared by a two person team might have room for adjustments if informed in advance, but doesn’t have room to make many changes on the spot for the whims of a demanding child.

This was one of the most delicious and memorable meals I’ve had all year! Also the bathroom was really nice, the toilet has some clearly-labeled bidet and flush controls on the wall by the toilet paper that some guests seemed to have missed entirely.“

The food was okay. Sashimi seemed well agrd and tasty. Pieces were good size also. The other stuff needs some improvement. The combo tempura were quite greasy. I wonder if the temperature of the frying grease was not high enough to result in crispy, non-greasy coating.

Reasonable value for lunch. Dinner price would diminish the value if the food is about the same.“

“Sushi O Sushi is amazing!! We usually drop in for lunch and a couple times for dinner. We get the bento boxes with teryaki chicken, California rolls, and sashimi (tuna or salmon) the miso soup is great and the salad with that delicious dressing is perfect. We always stop here and you shoukd definitely give it a try.“

“Gaku Yakitori is a very solid spot in the Bay Area. Sister restaurant to Sumiya, and I’ve been coming for years.
Charcoal is the reason to go. Skewers off the binchotan have that smoke a gas grill never gets. Uni don was good too, though it didn’t make the photo. Sake list is nice if beer isn’t the move.
Staff is friendly and accommodating. Room is small, so call ahead. Definite go-to izakaya.“

“I was looking for a sushi place the other day and found Kai Sushi or maybe it found me. Let’s just call it destiny but hands down it’s now my favorite sushi spot. Service is amazing. The aesthetics of the place is great. The food was the best part. Every dish I had (sushi, gyoza, nigiri) was amazingly fresh, it tasted amazing. I don’t like eel very much but the Chard eel on the dragon roll was so good it changed my mind on eel. I liked this place so much I had to bring my brother with me for round 2 and it was just as good as the first time. If you’re in the area it is a must stop. Did I mention how nice the hostess. She was very attentive but had a great balance of making sure we were taken care of yet still gave us our space to enjoy our meal. I will definitely be returning and making this my new sushi spot.“

“Great food. My favorite is their wagyu garlic fried rice ($27). The rice is well seasoned and their steak is tender. Overall a very savory and delicious dish.

Note: The dishes are pricey and their portions are small. But each dish is quality.

Their service can be slow. We’ve gone a few times and although we get seated and order quickly, the food can take a bit to arrive.

The restaurant feels like a cozy Japanese restaurant and they also have outdoor seating.

Overall they’re definitely on the pricier side and have small portions but each is dish is well made. It’s nice to have a quality Japanese restaurant in Redwood City“

“We were looking for a new place to try and Octopus had some great reviews/ pictures of their sushi rolls. After looking over the menu we decided to head on down. Friendly staff got us seated right away and we started with a round of appetizers. Gyoza, chicken karaage and a Toro Nigiri special started off the night and everything was delicious. Ordered 4 rolls and a bento box combo and everyone was extremely satisfied with the food. Can't wait to return and explore more of the menu“

“We tried the Kimchi Beef with Rice and the Garlic Beef with Rice. Between these two, the Kimchi Beef has a lot more flavor. The kimchi is, however, far too salty. Add the Garlic Shoyu sauce at the table to bring out the Garlic Beef dish. Otherwise, it's relatively plain. The pork katsu with curry sauce was fine, though not remarkable.“

“So far I found Rays Sushi is the best Japanese restaurant in my area. Ray originally opened in Hayward , then they moved to Newark a few years ago. We followed Ray to Newark. After about a year , closed again and relocated to Lion Plaza , Newark. We then return to Ray so many times. Now during pandemic, I ordered sushi to go more often. They have a management team to reply email, answering questions, they take care of my order correctly , great job done every time. Quality of food still as good as dine in. two thumbs up“
