“This used to be my favorite noodle spot for years, thanks to its Hainan chicken noodle special and chicken rice plate. The dishes offered great value, and the soup, famously free of MSG, was a standout. For the price of a fast-food burger meal, you could enjoy a flavorful bowl of chicken noodles—an unbeatable deal.

Unfortunately, things have changed. Over the past six months, the quality of the chicken has noticeably declined. They’ve switched from ranch or cage-free chicken to a lower-quality alternative. The meat now has a mushy texture, barely surpassing that of Costco rotisserie chicken.

Even more disappointing is the addition of MSG to the soup base, which leaves you parched after finishing a bowl. While some might not mind, I don’t think my taste buds have changed—this isn’t the soup I once loved.

I’d recommend that Special Noodle Soup focus on preserving the quality of their signature dishes, even if it means raising prices. Compromising quality undermines the reputation they’ve built over the years.

“Newly opened restaurant serving hu tieu nam vang, from the same family that owns the famed Nam Vang restaurant off of Alvin. I always order hu tieu dry (soup on the side) and the soup is excellent. Been here already twice and also tried their spicy hand pulled noodle dish (hu tieu NK dai) which is now my fave! I plan to come back here whenever I’m craving either one. The place is clean and well kept. The Yelp reviews seem to stem from a rough grand opening, but I think they’ve gotten better since then.My only wish is that the hand pulled noodle dish would have more noodles, it felt heavy on the meat & veggies. I’d also like to suggest adding a bottle of sauce to tables for patrons to add more to their hu tieu if they need more, but for me the served portion was perfectly fine.“

“This new spot opened up. It’s located inside a building called the “Culinary Block” inside a large parking lot for take away orders only. Overall, the price is good for the quality and quantity of food. I got the Northwest Lianpi noodles, Xinjiang Rice Noodle With Beef Shank, Meiling Congee, Homemade Yogurt, and Homemade Plum Juice.Liangpi: The noodles were soft and slightly bouncy with a nice chew to them. Very unique texture! It came with three sauces to mix into the noodles so you can adjust the spiciness however you like. The flavor was very balanced and it was easy to finish the whole thing without getting tired of the flavor.Xinjiang Rice Noodle: This dish was very flavorful and a little on the saltier side compared to the other dishes. Nice if you are into something heavier in flavor. It’s not as spicy as it looks and comes with a thick round rice noodle.Meiling Congee: This dish was pretty special, the flavor profile is very subtle but well balanced. I haven’t tried something like this before. It has a tiny hint of sweetness and has a bit of a nutty soymilk flavor and bits of lotus seed inside. Like a dessert porridge. Very tasty!Homemade Yogurt: This yogurt honestly has a phenomenal texture and I would definitely recommend it! It’s almost like a mix between mochi and liquid yogurt in the slightly stretchy texture. The flavor is good too since it’s just a tad sweet and just a tad sour.Plum juice: Slightly sour and sweet juice that is refreshing to go with food and increase appetite.Overall, I would say the food here is pretty good because the owner really pays attention to the quality! The food is well seasoned and balanced. Can’t wait to try the other things on the menu.

“The most memorable: 1) fresh garlic in a bowl on each table for self serve! Super authentic chinese northerners way of eating noodles!! I love it. 2) the texture of size 2 (second thinnest) is mind blowing good for someone like their noodles Al dente. Don’t get the most thinnest in noodle soup unless you like super soggy mushy texure.“

“A casual eatery for Japanese udon noodles. The menu was largely different types and styles of noodles. Service was quick. The udon noodles tasted fresh, and the broth was flavorful. I tried the Utsuke Udon Tsukemen, which had the noodles and broth served separately and then you add the noodles to the broth when eating. It was a solid dish. We also added a side green salad for some fiber and greens.“

“I didn't go to the restaurant, but I had the food delivered to me and I ordered the Chongqing cold noodles and Chongqing noodles with peas and ground pork. I have visited Chongqing Three times in the last 12 years. I fell in love with the city and especially the food. The two things that I ordered today, I would Eat many times when I was there and the food that I ordered today brought back memories of that food and that city.

Both dishes were delicious and I will definitely go back to the restaurant and order them again.“

“This is my go to place for jjajangmyeon. The noodle is always fresh and the sauce is perfect. Big portions as well. I have yet to try other dishes. It is always busy and has long waits on the weekend so come early. No reservations. It's first come, first serve. Good for families and friends. Kid friendly place too. The only gripe is that parking lot is small not a lot of parking space once it is full.“

“Dough Zone is a great budget-friendly Chinese restaurant. While some of the dishes may not look perfectly traditional in terms of presentation, the taste is fantastic and authentic. We ordered the juicy xiaolongbao, well-filled chive pockets, minced chicken noodles, and wontons—all for around $40. Definitely worth it for the price and quality!“

“We had fish pot noodle, steam soup dumplings, pan fried soup dumplings, and chili oil wonton. These are very delicious. We also ordered a stir fried broccoli chicken which is a bummer. Instead of sliced chicken breast like in the menu picture, it’s fried chicken chunks like in sweet and sour chicken. It’s also very oil and salty. Other than that dish, the rest are really good!!“

“We saw the ad on fb and browsed through photos on Google maps. We decided to dine there yesterday and the service is very nice, fast turnaround and prices are very reasonable. It’s a gem.“

“This place was so good! The food came out hot and fresh and the service was excellent. They have chili oil and soy sauce at every table to enjoy with your meal. The garlic noodles were delicious and I paired that with the lamb dumplings which were mouth watering! Their hot sake is delicious to which compliments any choice.“

The noodles had so many textures and layers of flavors that you can't ignore the complexity of the dish. Nice sauce that gets hit with your dip in the broth. Fresh veggies and noodles.

“This restaurant is nice and clean. Pho's broth was delicious and rich for most people. As for me, the broth was alright, Fresno pho's broth is better for sure, like pho 9. Combo pho, either thin or thick noodle, is a "must get" if you like the bone rib in your Pho, for appx $17.95 and an extra $6.95 for extra brisket. Vietnamese thick noodles mixed with veggies and chicken were interesting but not my favorite. The seasoning of this dish was mostly from the standard sweet and spicy sauce with a hint of sourness in most vermicelli dry dishes. The steak stir-fried dish was almost perfect. Our first steak dish has a piece of black hair on it but was quickly dressed by the owner, and we got a new dish after 5-10 mins. The steak was juicy and delicous. Flavor on point, and yes, I would get the steak again!! Stir-fried chicken with crisy noodles was alright. It's like eating a sitr fried dish with fried noodles instead of rice. Vietnamese iced coffee was nice and strong. Fried squid was fresh and crunchy, but I could use a little more salt to the seasoning based on my palate. Services were fast and worth it. We didn't have to wait longer than 10 mins for all of the dishes to come. This place definitely received my quality, but not quantity.“

Looks great, execution needs a little work but by far the only good pho on the Cupertino side of San Jose! Pho noodles slightly overcooked, and the rib is grilled instead of simmered in soup. Soup is great though, and infinite fish sauce table side.

Also, egg coffee and sugar cane are surprisingly genuine; no shortcuts or fillers.“

The service was really bad. It was super slow there were only two other tables that were occupied by people dining in alone. They never made any check ins and never came to refill my water. The chicken pho lacks a ton of flavor. The pork sandwich was amazing! By far the best thing! The spring rolls are good as well. Service is 1 star and food would be 3.5.

We all had the dry type with side of soup. What’s special here is you get up chose up to TWO different noodles and they have 6 GREAT choices.: original rice (banh pho), thin egg wheat noodle, thick flat wheat noodle, clear (taro starch?) noodle, large fresh flat rice, fresh banh canh (large tubular rice noodle)
I specifically had the fat flat wheat noodle and the clear noodle. Nice fresh noodles It is dressed in a nice brown sauce topped with pork meat and 2 quail egg and a large shrimp with some veggies. The flavor was excellent. The broth was also packed with flavor but very light and the pork bone also very clean taste.

Highly recommend!

“One of our comfortable food spot, especially when no one is open in the afternoon.
No 6 is just a bigger portion of no 5. The soup is thick but warm. Full of flavor. The only downside is probably yes you can see there are crab meats but no, you probably won’t be able to taste them anyway but the soup is strong flavored. Make sure you add Chinese donut to it too.
We also love the hot crepe roll during the weekend. Perfect between the crunchiness, favor, and freshness.

The pork belly and cabbage was completely unlike any other pork belly I've had- instead of crunchy with a sweet sauce, this was melt-in your mouth soft, set off by crunchy cabbage, and with a sharp vinegar based sauce. Fantastic! The Hong Kong noodles with seafood were a treat- I've never had a crunchy noodle dish before, and it set off the seafood well.
