“On Friday, June 5, after being in the busy San Francisco Bay area for 2 weeks, it was a relief to leave the traffic behind and head east. Always liking to take the road-less-travelled, we exited I-80 at Norden and drove US Hwy 40 over the historic Donner Pass. Along the way, we came across the Old 40 Bar & Grill at the Donner Ski Ranch. It turned out to be a fun place, with a funky atmosphere and a fairly mediocre pizza.”

It's always a perk/reassuring when you know how clean the kitchen is... Jordan, who knew you would be a professional at this. I 100% support this side hustle. I mean it's more of an addiction for you 😂🫶🏻 but I support it.”

“First time at Lake Tahoe, and this place was amazing! We had lunch on the patio, and we can tell how vibrant this place is just because there were no tables open. My burger was a 10/10 perfect medium rare, fries were the perfect crisp, makes the meal 20/20. The service was also fantastic, she always made sure we were hydrated and everything was on point, on this beautiful hot day.”

“Very friendly here, and they do not rush you. Caution: if you mention “spicy” it will be precisely THAT. There is mild or very spicy, no in between. The food is terrific and not over priced even considering the area. Recommend the cheese naan over the garlic. Great place!”

“The pizza is delicious but they are not prepared for multiple customers. We were told our pizza would be ready for pick up in 20 minutes. When we arrived, we waited an additional 75 minutes for our order. We had to ask for updates since that information wasn't forthcoming while we waited.”

“After a bite at the Cafe, great food & staff, we hiked to the Aspen Grove. The colors have just changed and it was glorious. Short hike into the woods with all of Mother Nature’s fall palette in full view. By the time you read this the leaves will have fallen, but you should still go by Alder Creek Adventure Center ASAP!”

“Great service! We were able to sit in the dining room near the fireplace. My favorite ! It set the stage for a night of lovely ambiance and great food! We had lovely Cocktails served promptly. We omitted appetizers. Hubby had the steak and frites and a salad. All was excellent . I started with a cup of the Greek Lemon soup. Delicious! This was followed by the Thai Shrimp. Sooooo yummy! Spicy and so full of flavor! I had to share with Hubby and he loved it too. It was a very generous portion. We shared the sorbet selection which was a refreshing end to a lovely date night at the Lodge! Thanks to all our servers and staff. Our compliments to the Chef and his crew!”

“I don't normally write reviews, but I had to this time. The Truckee food scene is modest at best. Most restaurants range from bad to mediocre, with a few notable exceptions, such as The Drunken Monkey and Moody's. Last year I would have included the Dining Room at Village Lodge in the "perfectly fine" category.But my wife and I went to dinner there last night (Jan 2024), and it was immediately clear that something had changed. The service was attentive and the menu was inspired. Andrew did a great job as our waiter. Before even ordering, I said to my wife that they must have a new chef, and indeed they do! It's made all the difference.I ordered the duck, my wife had the halibut, and we shared the steak tartare. It was all delicious. We paired it with a French Sancerre for an impeccable meal. Truly fine dining at a reasonable (by Tahoe standards) price.I should note that we were skiing earlier that day, and prior to dinner had a wonderful time getting to know some of the staff at the bar. We spent the night upstairs at the lodge (cute room), and the next morning had an equally good breakfast and equally good service from Bella. Also, they've put in a coffee bar right by the fireplace between the bar and the dining area. It's a nice place to warm up after a few runs.Highly recommended and worth the short drive up from Truckee.”

“I had the Cobb salad with chicken and it was really nice and fresh! Took it to go and asked for extra lettuce and the ingredients separated out so I could build it myself, and I essentially got 2 salads worth!”

“This place is finally my fav spot as new manager Sarah had made Little Bear into a wonderful local spot! She is always present and works so hard to keep that busy line moving smooth! Best cold brew and all the employees are so sweet amd personable. Shout out to Barka and Vivian and Clara and Merisch and Michelle. Kind people who very hard with smiles and always so fun to be around.
Place is immaculate also which shows how much pride Sarah and crew have!!”
