“Hiatus= opportunity for another stop in the LAtte tour. Today’s pilgrimage finds me in Sierra Madre at Syndicate, a fantastic find nestled comfortably downtown on Sierra Madre Blvd. Plenty of street parking and a beautiful place to take a stroll if you don’t score a spot immediately out front. The vibe is instantly welcoming, decor is colorfully minimalist, that’s probably not a thing, but it’s the best descriptor I have. The baristas are friendly, skilled and true devotees to all things coffee, even willing to share some potential sites to visit on the next LAtte stop. The coffee itself is excellent, rich, flavorful and no hint of bitterness. I went with oat milk this time and it paired perfectly with the blend, rich creamy, delicious! I can wholeheartedly recommend a visit should you find yourself in the area, or even if your not- expand your horizons and make it a destination, it’s worth it.“

The new owners are very courteous and took extra time to ensure we had everything we needed, even giving us a complimentary Cinnamon roll. There is only outdoor sidewalk seating (a total of 3 small tables with 2 seats each). The interior is tiny, and it carries the feel of a quick in-and-out pickup store. It's also right across the street from Pasadena's Central Park if you're looking for a stroll while you eat.

It's very transit-accessible. It's a 5 minute walk from the A line Del Mar station.

death by chocolate cookie ($3.85) - It's just a typical double chocolate cookie! It's a little gritty and dry (maybe it's gluten free?) but still delicious nonetheless.

coffee cake ($5.88) - sweet, with a flavor of cinnamon (not in an overpowering way). If you enjoy coffee cake, definitely get this, as vegan coffee cake is a rarity in Pasadena and LA.

ice cream sandwich ($9.25) - honestly, i think this was a little too sweet for me. The ice cream itself was plain vanilla soft serve, but when sandwiched by two entire chocolate chip cookies, I think the sweetness can be overpowering. Keep in mind that it also melts very fast (since it has the consistency of soft serve) and this makes it hard to keep the whole sandwich in shape. If you do not plan to eat it right away, I would not recommend getting this as it'll melt in a mere minute.“

“We are so lucky to have this cafe here in Pasadena! I've tried the carbonara, puttanesca, sandwiches, foccacia, and fried zucchini blossom, and it's all been delicious. Their homemade bread is incredible and is the star of their amazing sandwiches. For fellow lovers of bittersweet Italian sodas, they stock chinotto here, as well a couple small bitter sodas! On top of how good the food is, the service is very warm and friendly. You can tell it's a family business run with a lot of love. Can't recommend it highly enough, and I'm looking forward to going back and trying even more of the menu.“

“I’ve been meaning to post but kept forgetting. This place really does make the best cakes. I got a chocolate cake with half strawberry and half banana. Everyone at the party said it was SO good. Not too sweet. Typically I hate frosting but they make it perfectly soft and not too sweet! I showed them pictures of the rainbow frosting look I wanted and they recreated it perfectly too! “If this is not the best banh mi in all of Sgv and Oc, I don’t know of any place that can beat them. All cash by the way so come prepared. Their dac biet is the perfect sandwich and their daikon and carrots are light and bouncy with fresh jalapeno with the right amount of pate and butter. They have it down to perfection, nothing less. Had an open house and served it for homebuyers and they were blown away! Highly recommend! Cafe sua da is gold too, loved the shaved ice in the coffee and not too sweet. The ladies in the back are super sweet and you can buy the baguettes and freeze them, then 350 f for 6 mins in toaster or airfryer. Get the egg rolls, and pa te so is good too. My clients loved their vegetarian banh mi too!

“Looking for a sweet treat to share with your loved ones this Valentine's Day? Look no further than this amazing bakery my sister and I visited! We tried the Red Velvet Cinnamon Roll, Classic Cinnamon, Coffee Cake, Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies, Cornbread Cookies and White Chocolate Macadamia. And let me tell you, they were all absolutely delicious!

My personal favorite has always been the Classic Cinnamon rolls. They're so moist and flavorful, even days later! The red velvet cinnamon rolls were a close second though. The coffee cake was perfect, the cookies were to die for, and our Hot Americano was served fresh and hot.

The only downside was the long wait - we stood in line for an hour on Valentine's Day! But the friendly staff and amazing treats made it worth it. “My partner and I went to Blossom Market Hall to grab a coffee and couldn't help but be intrigued by the delicious smells coming from Ish's stand. We've been there a few times, but the first time we went, he had made a pumpkin scone that is absolutely one of the best pastries I've ever had. The texture was exactly how a scone is supposed to be: an initial crunch, but soft and pillowy on the inside, not hard and crumbly like many scones at other bakeries.

We have tried a total of 5-6 different items now, and every single one of them has been a delight to eat. None of his pastries are overly sweet, honoring the flavor of each, whether ube, pumpkin, or another. My only complaint is that he hasn't had the pumpkin scone the other times we've gone; it appears he changes up the menu day-to-day, which is great, but I've been really wanting that pumpkin scone again! If you are looking to indulge in a sweet treat but don't want to end up in a sugar coma, Ish's is the way to go, trust me.“
