“First I would like to say that I wish there were more than 5 stars. My son and I are visiting the DC area for the Cherry Blossom festivities. My son has a love for Indian food ever since his trip to India. I have never tried Indian food ever. So this was my very first experience. From the moment we walked in the door our amazing experience began. The atmosphere is beautiful and so is the staff. Our server, April was super helpful and very knowledgeable. She has an amazing spirit and is wonderful with her job! The food... was very fresh, aromatic and DELICIOUS!! My son said the food was the closest to the food in India that he has had here in the states. For my first time... OMG!!! I am HOOKED! The only bad part is that I have to go back to Florida and wait impatiently for my next visit.“

“We were looking for a spot to have lunch after checking out a local museum. This was on a list of places I wanted to try so we tried it out. Ambiance - It wasn't as fancy as I imagined it would be, but it was still nice. I looks like a lot of people come here for lunch. Food - The food was good. The palak paneer was a little sweet for me, which was kind of weird. The butter chicken could've used more spices. The tomato was the prevalent flavor. The garlic naan was on point! Service - The service was friendly and attentive. They made some menu suggestions, but we already knew what we wanted to order. My son could've used a refill of water though. Overall, I'd recommend this spot. I'd like to come back to try their desserts.“

“Was taken there for my birthday. My cocktail was superb and some of the best samosas I've had. They weren't too oily and mostly flaky and crispy. For Dinner, thw wife had Chicken Tikka Masala which tasted amazing and the chicken was very tender. It tasted "simple" and I do mean that in the nicest way considering I've had this dish at other restaurants and the flavors and spices are too overpowing. I had the Miz tandoori platter with a delicious lamb and chicken tikka. As good as they were, the star of the dish is the salmon. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Many restaurants don't get salmon right and it's usually overcooked and to my delight that was not the case here. Accompanied by the basket of naan that includes regular, onion, and garlic flavors and rice were a great combination. Raj and his staff deliver high quality of service and friendliness to the customer to go along with the delectable cuisine. Bravo Raj, bravo. I Can't wait to go back“

I highly recommend their Salmon and Fish biriyani. It comes with a lovely yogurt sauce that pairs well with the rice. The rice and fish are well seasoned and it's enough portions to have leftovers the next day. The service is pretty quick but when I've gone it's not crazy busy so I've been fortunate. “I found this small Indian restaurant while visiting Howard University on a Saturday afternoon to referee rugby match. They have a very large menu with all of the Indian basics. Even though I was alone, the food smelled so good that I decided to order 3 entrees to go. I ordered the Salt and Pepper Special combination, which came with a generous pile of different meats, including some chewy sausage-like things, some spicy lamb, and some excellent tandoori chicken (the meat was accompanied by some chickpeas in a sauce and spinach with cheese cubes in it). I also ordered a lamb vindaloo and a dal makhani (lentils). Both were excellent, but they are not joking when they say that their vindaloo is spicy -- it made me cry on at least two of the occasions I ate some of it (still have leftovers sitting in the refrigerator for tonight). The rice and the naan were also excellent. Total bill was just over $60.“

I was welcomed in and promptly seated by a window in the bar, which is a cute area- colorful pillows and a comfy bench sit against the wall. The food itself was hot and delicious. I got the chicken tikka makhani and garlic naan. I wasn't asked spice level, and it was definitely milder than I'm used to, but great flavor. I'm sure they would have accommodated if you like it really spicy (I personally don't like to set my tongue ablaze, so I was good). The portion was just right for me to finish everything with no leftovers and be perfectly full. Definitely would go back for quality Indian food!“

“Jyoti Indian Cuisine is by far one of the best traditional Indian cuisine restaurant in the DC area. As soon you walk in you are greeted with a vibrant atmosphere from the Indian/ modern music playing from the flat screen TV & surrounding speakers, to the painted murals + intricate trinkets hanging on the brick wall, & and warm hospitality from the employees. Our server Madeen was amicable & super helpful in explaining the items on the menu. We started off with the vegetable platter appetizer and included a trio of sauces; tamarind, mango chutney, green chutney. My personal favorite was the mango chutney, with a sweet, pungent spicy kick to it however all of them are rich in flavor. The drinks were great as well, would recommend getting the Alabama Slammer & Mai Tai.As our main course we ordered one of the most popular dishes recommended, the Tandoor Red Snapper along with the Lamb Seekh Kabob and Chicken Biriyani & choose mild as our preferred spice. We also had a side order of a yogurt sauce called Cucumber Raita & Garlic Naan. Not only was the presentation spotless, I kid you not every bite of those dishes did not disappoint. From the creaminess of the sauce served in the lamb, fish was grilled to perfection, & chicken biriyani was also tasty because the rice was blended with these aromatic spices that I am still trying to figure out! Flavors so complex yet it enriches your palette. The Garlic Naan came out fresh and hot, & just paired so well with the refreshing Cucumber Raita.I had the pleasure of meeting with the owner Shiva & I love how hands on he is within the restaurant & his employees. It truly was a lovely experience & definitely would come back to try out their vegetarian options!Vegetarian options: Dishes consisting of potatoes, lentils, basmati rice, samosas.Dietary restrictions: Vegan and Vegetarian options“
