“03/02/2026
After my dual procedure a few doors down at the Pacific Endoscopy Center, I knew I’d be super hungry afterwards so my husband picked up a Beef Donburi Bowl for me to take home. I really really enjoyed it. It hit the spot for me. Good portion of very tasty, soft and chewy beef, full of good flavor on a mound of well cooked rice. Few slivers of onions on top. He knows I don’t care for shoga (ginger) so he didn’t bother getting any but it is available if you want. Will definitely be back.“

“Had a really nice, first-time experience here recently. Big menu, something for everyone in your party. Service was quick. Drinks were refilled in a timely manner. The food was out about five minutes after ordering. Their regular entrees (saimins, curries, etc) are large portions. Honestly enough to share! Had leftovers at home and it was just as tasty as in the restaurant. 10/10!“

“Loved the atmosphere, the music and the food! I had the spicy ahi and it was delicious! It didn’t even feel like I was sitting 10 minutes from home. Definitely will be back!“

“Spicy Ahi has been our go-to Friday dinner spot for many years, and for good reason! Their ingredients are always fresh and high quality, making every meal consistently delicious. What truly sets them apart is their careful attention to takeout packaging—everything is packed thoughtfully to ensure the food stays fresh and intact by the time we get home. Whether dining in or taking out, Spicy Ahi never disappoints. Highly recommend!“

“I ordered the 2 choice bento with spicy ahi and teriyaki chicken. I didn’t take a picture because I forgot and ate the whole plate realizing I should have took the picture because it was AMAZING!!! There’s a sweet lady that works here, she seems like she loves what she does because of her smile! Definitely coming back(:“

“It was onigiri—nothing particularly special. That said, most onigiri in the U.S. tend to be lower quality due to cheaper rice, so this place stands out for using better-quality rice. It’s definitely above average by U.S. standards, but not amazing. Best not to expect too much.“

“Best tsukamem! Large portion of noodles with excellent dipping sauce. Neighbors eating fried chicken and fries which looked delicious. One wait staff took care of the entire place with great efficiency. Would go back again.“
“The food was good and the AYCE style is definitely fitting for sushi and small Japanese appetizers. The restaurant is small, but this works in its favor as sushi can take some time to prepare. I give a four-star rating only because I disagree with the concept of mandatory gratuities as a rule. This only applies to parties of six or more, however.“

“Marugame Udon downtown is a dependable spot for a quick, satisfying Japanese meal. I got the Premium Tendon with crispy tempura over rice: zucchini, sweet potato, shrimp, and chicken, finished with rich dashi sauce and a seasoned egg. The tempura was light, golden, and crisp, and the rice soaked up the savory sauce perfectly.
I also added tamagoyaki, extra shrimp tempura, and zucchini tempura on the side, plus a large Asahi beer, which was a perfect cold pairing with the warm fried tempura. The service was amazing, and the ambiance is incredible for a casual downtown restaurant: bright, energetic, clean, and modern. Great spot for a filling and delicious meal in downtown Honolulu.“

“Soooo I agree w/ Jungee Cho. Food exceptional, service exceptional (thank you Kingston). Wife and I are in Oahu decided to try the west side, we are blessed to be able to travel occasionally and enjoy good meals..
I got the SIGNATURE DOMOKASE (prepared menu by the chef) it’s 7 course! The wifey had the Galbi platter. Now I’m telling ya, we’ve eaten a fair amount of places on the east side. This sushi was thee most tastee and freshest I’ve ever had anywhere! (didn’t need sauces or spritzes) nor did it have it. High quality and top notch! Both our meals were memorable and full of flavor only a talented chef can pull off. The waiters made their own drinks, which was a first for me… they were on point, with attention to detail.
The location is a bit off the beaten path, it’s a restaurant within a golf course club house. If this place were located in the east side near Waikiki, you’d pay double. In short, it’s worth the trip, should we come back to the “big island” they will see us again.
Who knows if management reads these things, but if you do… bravo 👏, your staff were a joy to be around and I noticed on many occasion how they would help each other out, I love to see that!“

“There's not enough space to right the good things about this place. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and acknowledged by everyone, including the sushi chefs. Water and drink order is perfectly timed. Whether you order teishoku complete meals or sushi, the flavor and and portions are spot on. If you choose to sit at the sushi counter, the spread is just amazing. From white fish, tuna, to shellfish and sometimes even a fruit or plant to cleanse the pallet. I would recommend reservations as this place is always busy. Takeout is also very good!“

“An izakaya is a casual Japanese pub-style restaurant designed for socializing over drinks and shared small plates, acting as a staple of Japanese dining culture.
Last meal on Oahu. An excellent offering suggested by my cycle buddy, Randy S. Randy had told us that they were the 2022 James Beard Best Restaurant semi-finalist is deserving recognition.
I really can't tell you all we had because Randy took charge. Every bite worked well with the bottle of sake we had. I do know that one of the bites included firefly squid, those cute, small, bioluminescent cephalopods famous for their brilliant blue light.
Regardless, it was a fun way to cap off the trip. Loved the food, love the company... what a great place!“

“6/6/2026….Woooww! Picked up our order on the way to a friend’s house up the road and we all dug in right away…didn’t even take pics. Next time. It was a noisy lunch with all 4 of us OOOOOing and OMGing throughout our meal. I had the Sake Garlic Shrimp plate and OMG (lol), it was so full of flavor, and I have never seen so much shrimp on a plate lunch, like ever!! It looked like more shrimp than in the pic on the menu.
I had a taste of everyone’s plate and everything was super delicious. I’m gonna have the chicken katsu next time. It was crunchy and yummy. Definitely gonna be going back…soon. The staff were so sweet and welcoming! Wish we had one on the windward side.“

“Tempura Ichika was an amazing experience. It is one of the few places in the USA to get an exceptional omakase tempura experience. Chef expertly fries each morsel to perfection - to the point that no oil comes off the food onto the tempura paper. All the ingredients are all fresh and seasonal - the highlight was a fried abalone dish with a side of abalone liver, which is my favorite dish of the year, but you cover a wide range of dishes on the omakase and it felt like the right amount of food, even without the couple of extra dishes we ordered. The restaurant is beautiful, cozy, and quiet, which made for a great date night out. The servers were very friendly and always making sure that you are enjoying your meal and getting your feedback. Going here was the highlight of our trip to Honolulu and was a true gem to visit.“

“Mikiya is my go-to all-you-can-eat shabu shabu spot in Honolulu.
Yes, it can be a little pricey, but if you’re someone who can really eat, it’s absolutely worth it. I highly recommend getting the membership. Not only do you get a discount for yourself, but you can also bring a friend and they receive the discount as well, which makes it a great value.
What really sets Mikiya apart is the service. A lot of all-you-can-eat restaurants tend to slow down service once you start ordering, but Mikiya is the complete opposite. The staff is incredibly fast, attentive, patient, and friendly. Refills and additional orders come out quickly, and we’ve always felt well taken care of.
The quality of the meat is excellent, and I love the sauce bar. Everything is always fresh, well-stocked, and there are so many options to customize your meal exactly how you like it.
If you’re thinking about trying Mikiya, definitely come hungry! Great food, great service, and consistently a great experience every time. It’s easily one of my favorite restaurants on the island.“

“What a lovely, small, and quaint spot! Every time I crave Japanese food, this place transports me right back to Japan. The food is consistently excellent; it truly never disappoints. My favorite items for a to-go plate are the incredible chicken karaage and the flavorful ginger pork. While I haven't had a chance to dine in yet, I feel confident giving it a strong rating. The staff is always so welcoming and friendly during every takeout experience.“

“After our last trip to the Kansai region of Japan, I have found a new appreciation and respect for the “ryori” this establishment prepares for its customers. Fort Street Mall is not famous for its cuisine but this place is the best, period. I could see Ohana Dish operating a small stall along Osaka’s Dotombori shopping district. I really love their food. It’s authentic and delicious 😋.
Anyone who loves simple meals will be amazed…try the Chicken Namban!! Oyako-don is my favorite ❤.“

“Sushi Bay is probably best places to go to for sushi. The fish is fresh, the food taste very good, the service for take out and dine in is fast, and for the amount of great tasting food we get, the prices are really fair and cheap too and the employees are extremely friendly and you can see lots of smile and laughter amongst them while hustling, signifying a very healthy work culture.“

“We used Teruya's Andagi for my father's service in Feb 2026 and ordered 130 bentos (karaage, garlic chicken, assorted large roll, veggie) and andagi and sweet potato mochi, and all were a hit! The shrimp tempura and garlic chicken large bento roll was the most popular by far! Albert was super-responsive and very professional in my email communications with him and the bentos were delivered on time. I will definitely use Teruya's Andagi in the future and you should, too! Thank you and your staff so much, Albert!“

“Popped in yesterday for a quick and light lunch for a few friends and myself.
The order for each of us: 1 ea side garlic chicken (3 pieces) with extra sauce and a spam musubi
What I thought would be a nice and small lunch, ended up being a TUMMY full haha. If you been here you know the pieces of chicken are massive and the music packs a wallop of rice. It’s a perfect meal for just $8 50 or so. I could have stopped short of eating all the rice and still been full.
The chicken was on point - crunchy and soft and moist on the inside with that sweet garlic blast of sauce.
The staff is always so friendly and serving with a smile. The food came out quick.“

“So tasty and so cheap. I'm so glad I found this spot which doesn't seem to be very commercialised or touristy (yet...). Everybody in the restaurant seemed to be from the local Asian population; it's maybe the first time that I walk into a packed restaurant in the USA and I'm literally noticeably the only person who is not Asian in the entire place. The portions are just big enough and it's that K-BBQ grill-it-yourself style tables. Ordering on the phone is easy and convenient and tables are set out in a way that allows high density of customers while still keeping privacy for your own table. A great experience and I'd be thrilled to come back here often if I were a local.“

“7 of us got together for Happy hour. We ordered 3 pitchers of Beer, Pupus & assorted plates. I also ordered Katsu Don, for my wife and a Sushi Boat for all to share. Katsu was thick like Hirikatsu in Japan. We could not finish. Sushi Boat was Fair, but not outstanding. Also ordered Oyaku Don to take out for Daughter at home. Spent $160 including Boat. Think Mr Ojisan is great. Gotta go back & try other dishes.“

“Q: How do you cheer up a can of spam?
A: Tell it it's meat-ing expectations!
I was taking a walk down Lewers Street when this gem of a place caught my eye. I knew I had to pop in and I'm so glad I did. They make musubis with Koshihikari Rice and they are all handmade. We actually saw a Koshihikari Rice delivery while there. They have seven stores in the Waikiki area and I'm glad they had a location by the hotel I was staying at.
Spam Van Magnet x2, $14: Cute addition to mine and my friend's fridge.
Egg Spam Musubi, $2.88: A classic! Nothing wrong with a Spam and egg duo.
Eel Egg Spam, $4.58: This was a delicious mini meal in itself. I love me some eel and I love me some Spam. The two are a match made in Heaven.
I like this place! It's a cozy storefront with no seating but you're in Waikiki. There's always a place for you to sit somewhere to enjoy your musubi. Take it to the beach even.
Staff is friendly and sweet. You'll love it here if you're a fan of musubis.“
