The pickled vegetables and fresh salad on the side provided a crisp, bright contrast that balanced the savory meat perfectly.

The sandwich was not very hot and there were no jalapeños on it. (I was not a fan of the egg on it, either, but that is on me for not reading the menu more carefully.) Unfortunately, the chicken pho broth was not nearly as flavorful as I was hoping and the soup was carried by the condiments. “Phonatics is great — we live right by it and go there frequently for pho on cold days when we want to warm our soul, and banh mi in the summer when we want the tender chicken with pickled onion on a crunchy baguette. The atmosphere is great, the staff is accommodating, and the food is such a quality that it never fluctuates. There was even a time when I couldn’t find basil at any nearby store, and in a hurry I went to Phonatics and they were kind enough to give me a bag of Thai basil. It saved my bruschetta.“

The chicken salad is shockingly good - will definitely be getting it again! And my friend tried the curry and banh mi combo with a fried egg which were, again, delicious. Staff are also so lovely. “Came here with my partner to get some pho. These days I feel going to restaurants isn’t worth it unless it’s for food that is difficult to make — pho is one of those. The place had one or two other people seated for lunch on a Friday. We were told to sit wherever we liked.

My partner got pho with extra meat, and they brought the extra meat out in a small bowl, which was great to see that it was indeed extra. I got pho without meat (their only option for pho <$10). They gave plenty of the classic toppings (bean sprouts, Thai basil, lime, chilis). We also got the fresh rolls as well. The rolls were not as good as I’ve had at other Vietnamese places — there were no herbs in it which would’ve really improved it. The pho itself was delicious and definitely worth getting.“

Atmosphere- I really appreciate the feel of this place. Tons of pictures of locals, tight little spot, people coming in knowing exactly what they want. I feel like this restaurant has been here for a long time and I'm just lucky enough to have found it.“

You can tell by how authentic the food is that it's a run by people with great care and appreciation for Vietnamese food. The banh mi was affordable, which was nice, but the taste was just okay. The bun cha was better compared to the other dishes, and the portion of meat was reasonable. “Food is great, but the Thai tea is NOT a normal thai tea. They use a powder instead of actual thai tea and milk. So it has a totally different flavor. Only reason I’m still leaving a good review is because they were very kind and willing to give a refund or exchange the drink for something else. 🙏🏽👍🏽 We exchanged it for a mango slushie and although it was equally as gross tasting (mega artificial flavoring) the customer service was great.“
