“Went to Barbacoa, 5500 Troost, for brunch Sunday morning, what a delightful experience. I ordered Monie’s plate. It was mouthwatering. The serving was so generous, that I took half of it home. The corn tortillas were soft and warm enough to make a taco, the beans were flavorful and not spicy, the carnitas were fall apart tender and very tasty, perfectly fried potatoes, and fluffy scrambled eggs. The salsa was very tasty and not overly spicy. The coffee was even tasty (Costco Kirkland medium roast). Unlike some breakfast restaurants, the background music was so low and mellow (helps with digestion), I could hear my friends talk. We have to go back during the week for dinner. UPDATE - I forgot one very important thing, the service was excellent. Our group was one of two in the restaurant, but shortly afterwards other start to arrive. There was only one friendly waitress, who, despite the growing crowd, was able to get back to us about more coffee and to check on us”

“We happened upon this place, honestly. Because we needed to use the restroom but, we wanted to be good patrons and checked out the menu. Opted for the Jerk Chicken Bao Bun & Blackened Shrimp appetizers.
Oh my god!! I swear, they have the absolute BEST jerk chicken I've ever tasted. Perfectly grilled/smoked and flavorful and just the right spice, on a soft steamed bun. The blackened shrimp was also phenomenal with great char and served atop jerk sauce and tropical fruit to complement the heat & sweetness.
The gentleman who served us (our bill said his name was Jims D) what a great conversationalist. We talked about the history of the place and how they are working to get their liquor license (which is taking quite a bit of time with the city, btw). We were having about the food and he mentioned another dish they were cooking up, which included this amazing cheezy/garlicky mashed potatoes. Tasted like it had both regular & sweet potatoes. If we weren't already so full, we would've got some to go!!
If you're looking for a chill atmosphere and tasty Ethiopian/island food - this IS the place to go!”

“Loved the amazing atmosphere at Nour’s! It sits at that perfect intersection of high-end fancy and accessible - without even a whisper of pretentiousness. The space is inviting and feels very luxurious but isn’t off putting at all. It’s worth a look around to see the art and decor.

Loved the food! We tried the muhammara and the samke harra (baked branzino). Everything was delicious and well seasoned.

Service was somewhat slow, but we didn’t mind. Will happily return for more delicious Lebanese food!”

My wife had Fillet Mignon with lobster and a sweet potato casserole. I had a pork chop. The meal was truly one of the best resturant dinners I have had in years. The atmosphere is so homey and cozy, the coffee was amazing and I also tried one of their brownies - everything was fantastic. The day I visited was kind of rainy, so the vintage lights glowing and the soft music playing was reminiscent of when I watch those “coffee shop jazz” videos on YouTube. I’m excited to return!”

Our server, Janszen, was absolutely top-tier. Attentive without hovering, warm, professional, and perfectly timed the entire meal. The kind of service that makes you relax and just enjoy yourself.

We both ordered the 14oz KC Strip with Sam’s Mashed Potatoes, and wow! The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection, beautifully seasoned, juicy, and exactly as ordered. The mashed potatoes were rich, creamy, and indulgent in the best way.

And the strawberry (I don't like cherry's, lol) on top, even though it wasn’t my birthday, they surprised us by bringing each of us our own dessert. No sharing required. A small gesture, but it made the experience feel extra generous and celebratory.

This past weekend we went to KC on a whim and knew they were booked and decided we would be fine with a seat at the bar. When we inquired about a table for 2, the hostess explained that they were booked and could sit at the bar. We were totally great with that! But the “head honcho” came out of nowhere and told us he actually had a table for 2. The cherry on top? The food was amazing, but I loved the words on your menu and the whole vibe that comes from locally sourced goods. Your menu spoke of kindness and community. I accidentally left my phone in your bathroom when I left. Since we were on our way back to Chicago it was definitely something I needed to find and it could have been a completely stressful experience. It wasn’t. You weren’t just serving up food. I went out to the car so my friend could call my son and have him find my iPhone the thing but we never got to that. A lovely gentleman in a blue track jacket came knocking gleefully at the window. They had found it and he was so happy to tell me. When I came back in to get it your restaurant was packed and it was very busy and yet I felt like every person there had just stopped everything for a moment to find my phone. The excitement when they gave it back to me was amazing. It was a truly beautiful experience. I totally had the New York omelette, but what I was really ordering was the “cultivate kindness” printed right there on the menu. “Valentin‘s date dinner! We sat by the window and had such a lovely time. We have eaten here many times over the years and the food quality doesn't disappoint. Service was excellent. The only drawback was my blackened cod entrée was quite small (4 oz maybe, but uncertain),in a lovely pool of broth with some shaved fennel on the side. Quite a tiny portion for the price! Taste was light and flavorful, but it definitely needed something more. I ended up ordering a side dish just so I could feel like I had a “meal“ the server was excellent and the food timely. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any and all. Perfect for date night!”
